This study was undertaken to determine the relationship between carcass traits and chemical compositions. Using ultrasound scanning from two different anatomic regions, the study involved estimating carcass traits and chemical composition in male Karayaka lambs. Measurements were taken of skin thickness, subcutaneous fat thickness, muscle depth, muscle width, and muscle area between the 12th and 13th thoracic vertebrae (12- 3T) and 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae (3-4L) using real-time ultrasound in 15 six-month-old lambs. Maternal Behaviour Of Awassi Sheep And Behaviour Of Thelambs During The First Hour After Parturition, Sabri̇ Gül, Özkan Görgülü, Mahmut Keski̇n, Zühal Gündüz

Data from sixty-one 2-5-year-old Awassi ewes (38 single and 23 twin births) were evaluated in order to determine behaviour at parturition and the following first hour. Observations were subjected to Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests, Pearson-s chi-square test, independent samples t-test, and ANOVA. The Awassi sheep exhibited sniffing action after parturition as the initial behaviour, choosing the back part of the lamb. First licking and sniffing times were found to decrease with maternal age; calculated average data for these characteristics were 138.3 - 15.39 and 118.3 - 26.48 s for singlets, and 147.7 - 15.12 and 123.6 - 29.54 s for …

The present study aimed to investigate the antiinflammatory effects of 2 herbal extracts (CDS and CDSM) in rats with experimental adjuvant arthritis (AA). Joint swelling, development of polyarthritis, blood indices, pro/antioxidant activity, and proinflammatory cytokine IL-17 in blood serum, as well as the liver and paw histopathology and histochemistry, were assessed. Oral injections of extracts showed an antiinflammatory effect analogous to that of diclofenac (DF), improved blood indices and suppressed level of IL-17, significantly diminished joint swelling, and histological changes in the joints. In this study, 30 mixed-breed, neutered, young adult male dogs at 15-30 kg live weights were used. The foods were produced at a special facility. Dog food produced using 25% barley had a gelatinized starch content significantly greater than that of food produced using 25% rice: 18.36% vs. 17.45%, respectively. No considerable difference was observed in the dogs' preference between the two foods (50.95% vs. 49.05%). Dry matter digestibility of rice and barley food was 86.10% and 83.85% and crude protein digestibility was 80.44% and 79.24%, respectively. Based on the consumption of rice or barley, stool consistency did not change.

The aim of this study was to compare and contrast the isolation ability of selective media developed for Brucella spp. isolation and their inhibition ability against contaminant microorganisms. Fifty-one field strains biotyped from abortion case samples and 25 Brucella spp. negative organ samples were used. Strain suspensions and organ suspensions were prepared separately. The turbidity of the strain suspensions was measured via spectrophotometer. The aim of this study is to determine the amount of tear secretion in sheep with infectious keratoconjunctivitis and healthy ones in the Siirt region by Schirmer tear test and phenol red thread tear test. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus in cows with subclinical mastitis and detect enterotoxin genes and patterns of antimicrobial resistance. Out of 180 animals, subclinical mastitis was detected in 78 cows (46.99%) and three buffalo (21.43%). The prevalence of clinical mastitis was low (3.61%). S. aureus could be isolated from mastitic milk (67/81), udder swabs (38/81), floor swabs (13/27), milking machine liner (5/8), and healthy animals- milk (12/22). A 10-year-old spayed female Maltese dog presented to a local animal hospital with a subcutaneous mass (4 x 3 x 3 cm) in the right shoulder region. The mass was well circumscribed, with soft tissue opacity and variable levels of mineralization, but with no bony involvement in radiography. The mass was surgically removed. Upon histological examination, the mass consisted of malignant mesenchymal cells that had produced a chondroid matrix and osteoid. Round to polygonal neoplastic cells with large nuclei showed moderate anisokaryosis and variable numbers of mitotic figures. The study was conducted to investigate comparatively some behavior traits (grazing, resting, bipedal stance, agonistic behavior, rumination, and browsing) of Honamlı, Hair, and Saanen goat breeds in the morning and afternoon periods between April and September in maquis shrublands. A total of 30 two-year-old goats including 10 from each goat breed were used. While grazing behavior of Saanen goats was observed mostly in April and May as 75.45%-71.65% and 73.16%-78.25% for morning and afternoon in these months, respectively, these values were respectively 62.52%-64.23% and 59.94%-67.67% for Hair goats and 60.12%-62.94% and 46.42%-54.78% for Honamlı goats. In this study, a two-step multiplex reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (mRT-PCR) was developed and evaluated using designed primers for the simultaneous detection and differentiation of Turkish foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) serotypes A and O from clinical samples. In the method, a mix of one universal reverse primer designed from the 2B gene and two serotype-specific forward primers designed from the hypervariable regions of the capsid VP1-1D coding gene of FMDV were used. Mastitis is one of the biggest problems of dairy cattle industries. In recent years, fungal agents have been frequently reported among the causative agents for mastitis. Among the fungal agents, Candida species are the most common. This study's aims were the isolation, identification, and determination of antifungal susceptibility of Candida species causing mycotic mastitis in cattle. An experiment was conducted to optimize the effect of concentrate levels on growth performance in Nili-Ravi buffalo heifers. These animals (n = 30), aged 4-6 months, were divided into three treatment groups (A, B, C) and were offered concentrate at the rate of 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5% of body weight for an 8-month period, respectively. The statistical data showed a significant (P < 0.01) effect on dry matter intake among all treatment groups. However, dietary treatments showed a nonsignificant effect on body weight gain. Treatment A showed a better (P < 0.01) feed conversion ratio (10.01 - 0.55) compared to treatment B (11.75 - 0.79) and C (12.85 - 0.74). The average body condition score, body measurements, and blood profiles were not affected by varying levels of concentrate. However, total serum protein was found lower (P < 0.01) in treatment A compared with the other two treatment groups. The cost for production per kg gain was 80.8% higher in treatment C and 46.6% higher in treatment B compared to treatment A. It can be concluded that buffalo heifers can be reared cost-effectively on a minimum concentrate level (0.5% of body weight) along with ad libitum green fodder.

Ferritin, heavy polypeptide 1 (FTH1) is a kind of ferritin complex that catalyzes the conversion of Fe(II) into Fe(III) to protect the cell from oxidative damage. Recent research has shown that FTH1 is also associated with several disease-related processes, such as inflammation and tumor progression and so on. In this study, the coding sequence (CDS) of FTH1 in Jinding ducks was cloned. The CDS sequence revealed an open reading frame of 546 nucleotides encoding a protein with 181 amino acids. A trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of different processing methods of pigeon pea (Pp; Cajanus cajan) on fattening performance and carcass traits as well as blood biochemical and hematological parameters of broiler chickens. For this purpose, 300 day-old chicks were assigned to 5 treatments. Each treatment had 5 replicates and contained 12 birds each under a completely randomized design. Ticks are the main hematophagous arthropods and obligatory ectoparasites that are considered a vector of serious pathogens for animals and humans. The aims of the present survey were to assess the prevalence and diversity of ticks in cattle in Southeast Iran and to determine Coxiella burnetii in the ticks. From May 2014 to April 2015, 583 ticks were collected randomly from 257 cattle. Nested trans-PCR was performed to detect C. burnetii. The overall prevalence of hard tick infestation on cattle was 56.8%. Optical density image (ODI) analysis, based on the intensity of pixels in digital images, is commonly used in orthopedic medicine. This study was conducted to quantify endometrial and luteal changes in early pregnant and cyclic cows by ODI analysis. Twenty healthy primiparous Simmental cows on days 80?120 postpartum were subjected to ultrasonography and ODI analysis on the days of estrus (day 0) and metestrus (day 4) as well as 12, 15, 18, and 21 days after insemination. A study was conducted to evaluate the use of exogenous enzymes as a potential means of improving the cell wall degradation of rice straw. The enzymes used for in vitro incubations were characterized for cellulase (CE) and xylanase (XY). Enzymes were supplemented alone (CE or XY) and as a mixture (CE + XY) in a 1:1 ratio. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and clonal typing of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli in healthy broilers in Turkey. Three hundred broiler cloacal samples were collected from various broiler slaughterhouses and inoculated on Levine agar plates supplemented with 2 μg/mL cefotaxime. Suspected strains were identified using a BBL Crystal Enteric/Nonfermenter ID Kit (Becton Dickinson, USA) and ESBL production was confirmed using an ESBL phenotypic confirmatory test. The present study was undertaken to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of pulmonary surfactant proteins (SP-A, SP-B, proSP-C) associated with proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), thyroid transcription factor-I (TTF-I), and lymphocytic phenotypes (CD3+ T and CD79αcy+ B cells) in ovine lungs with exudative and verminous pneumonia. Pneumonic lungs (n = 50) were classified as presenting fibrinous bronchopneumonia (n = 16), abscessing necrotic bronchopneumonia (n = 10), verminous pneumonia (n = 15), and interstitial pneumonia (n = 9). Hematological effects of etomidate and tricaine at concentrations causing general anesthesia or sedation of carp juveniles were compared. Recovery of body balance took similar time in the case of both anesthetics, but fish treated with etomidate were depressed for several hours, while those subjected to tricaine immediately regained normal behavior. Immediately after exposure anesthetics caused minor hematological changes; the only statistically significant effects (decrease of hematocrit and plasma glucose) occurred after sedation with etomidate. In this study, it was aimed to determine the influence of applying Nigella sativa (NS) and Hypericum perforatum (HP) on wound healing. A total of 42 female albino 2-month-old Wistar rats were randomly separated into 3 main groups. Each of these main groups was separated into two subgroups for 7- and 14-day postoperative follow-ups. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of dietary vitamin D3 supplementation on changes in color and heme pigment (myoglobin and metmyoglobin) in 4 beef muscles. The muscles came from 48 crossbred bulls that were subjected to supplementation with vitamin D3 at 4 different doses: 0.0 (control group), 3.5, 7.0, and 10.0 x 106 IU. The current study describes the use of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein (IL-1Ra) as a possible strategy for optimizing tendon healing and repair by presenting histologically visible changes in rabbit Achilles tendon tissue after longitudinal tenotomy. The study was carried out on 26 Californian rabbits divided into two equal groups. One was the experimental IRAP (interleukin-1 receptor antagonist) group and the second one was the PBS (purified buffered saline) group. The PBS group was the control group. Tick-borne diseases are one of the most important classes of disease in animal husbandry and cause severe economic losses. In this study, 660 adult female ticks were collected from sheep in nine localities in Henan Province, China. All were identified as Haemaphysalis longicornis, confirmed with light microscopy and PCR amplification. The pathogens identified in these ticks included bacteria of the genus Anaplasma (Anaplasma ovis, A. bovis, A. phagocytophilum) and piroplasmal protozoans (Theileria luwenshuni, Babesia motasi).
