Urinary tract infection is the most common complication found in dogs with urolithiasis. Bacterial cystitis can play an important role in dogs with urolithiasis; it can either be the cause of cystic formation or be a complication following urolithiasis. Moreover, urolithiasis cases that come with bacterial cystitis can lead to a condition of complicated cystitis which will require more complicated treatment and management. Proper bacterial identification should be performed in order to follow an appropriate treatment. Thai native chicken meat is a high-quality protein source of unique flavor. Genetic preservation and breeding programs are beneficial to maintain purebred populations. Aiming at improving post-thawed sperm quality, this study is the first to apply extracellular adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATPe) in freezing extender to preserve Thai native chicken sperm. Eight semen samples from eight Thai native chickens (n = 8) were included. Initial semen evaluation and sperm size measurement were performed. Bovine Paratuberculosis (BPT) or Johne’s disease is a pathology caused by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP). The parasite causes chronic granulomatous enteritis in domestic and wild grazers. Oral-fecal transmission is the most common form of transmission with calves less than six months old being the most susceptible but not presenting clinical symptoms until five years later. To identify further the infectivity, genetic diversity and molecular characteristics of the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). 286 samples of the intestinal tissue of pigs with severe diarrhea were assessed from 5 provinces in the north of Vietnam. The full-length ORF3 gene of 20 representative field strains from 36 farms in 5 provinces was sequenced and analyzed. The prevalence of PEDV was 90.56% and was detected in 259 of 286 samples, with 94.44% (34 of 36) of pig farms harboring the disease. This study aimed to investigate, using magnetic resonance imaging, whether continuous hypertonic saline (HSS) infusion induces a superior vasodilating effect on the encephalic vessels compared to bolus infusion in dogs. The relative cross-sectional area of superior sagittal sinus increased to 1.96±0.09 and 1.69±0.31 times of the pre-value in the continuous and bolus groups, respectively, at t=30 min (p<0.001). However, the relative cross-sectional area of superior sagittal sinus was larger in the continuous group than that in the bolus group (p<0.001). The results suggest that continuous infusion of HSS might be superior to bolus infusion in inducing vasodilatation of the encephalic circulation.

Hence, local oxygen control of wounds plays an important role in skin wound healing. Herein, we developed a novel oxygenated dressing for the treatment of skin wound healing in Bama miniature pigs. The oxygenated dressing was mainly composed of potassium iodide, glucose, glucose oxidase, polyvinyl alcohol, polypropylene, polyvinylpyrrolidone and water. A two-year-old spayed female mongrel cat presenting with right hind limb lameness with intermittent weight bearing while walking was taken to the veterinary medicine teaching hospital of National Chung Hsing University. Both drawer test and tibial compression test were positive, stifle radiography showed synovial fluid had become more radiopaque. The tentative diagnosis for the cat was rupture of the right cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL), medical management using corticosteroids was prescribed with anticoagulants and surgical treatment recommended. A 6-month-old, 4.45 kg, intact, male domestic shorthair cat was presented with a gingival mass located on the left rostral maxilla and second left upper premolar tooth. Intraoral x-ray of the left rostral maxilla revealed left maxilla bone lysis with a unilocular cystic lesion. The cytology result revealed an epithelial cell tumor .A left rostral maxillectomy was performed and the tumor was submitted for histological assessment .Histopathological diagnosis of the tissue revealed a feline inductive odontogenic tumor .There was no evidence of tumor recurrence 24 months after surgery.

African swine fever (ASF) is a contagious, hemorrhagic and highly lethal viral disease in swine. Following the initial report of ASF in Kenya in 1921 it spread to East Asia through Western Europe and Russia (including Eastern Europe). Many efforts have been dedicated to controlling ASF but the struggle to eradicate this disease continues. Thus far, the efforts to develop an effective vaccine to control ASF have been unsuccessful. This retrospective study investigated the clinical characteristics of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Escherichia coli and its antimicrobial resistance phenotypes and analyzed the treatment outcomes of MDR E. coli infection in dogs and cats. The medical data of dogs and cats diagnosed in 2020 with E. coli infection at a veterinary teaching hospital were analyzed. Of 94 cases, the frequency of MDR E. coli (66%) infection was higher than that of non-MDR E. coli (34%). MDR E. coli was significantly more frequently detected in female dogs than non-MDR E. coli (P < 0.026). The most frequent MDR E. coli isolation sites were the urinary tract in dogs and skin wounds in cats. MDR E. coli isolates from dogs were highly resistant to ampicillin (96.1%), enrofloxacin (80.4%) and tetracycline (78.4%). Resistance to ampicillin (100%), enrofloxacin (90.9%), marbofloxacin (72.7%) and tetracycline (72.7%) occurred frequently in MDR E. coli isolates from cats. Low resistance to amikacin was detected in the MDR E. coli isolates from dogs and cats. The rates of clinical cure and non-clinical cure of the MDR E. coli and non-MDR E. coli cases were not significantly different. The duration of antimicrobial treatment for MDR E. coli was significantly longer in cats (12.6 ± 5.85 days) than in non-MDR E. coli cases (7 ± 0 days) (P < 0.048). Adjunctive therapy was prescribed more frequently in MDR E. coli (20%) than non-MDR E. coli cases (8.3%). The presence of MDR E. coli was high in this study. High resistance to commonly used antimicrobial drugs and treatment complications was observed in this study.

A dorsal sling technique for correction of nuchal ligament excision in a dermoid sinus canine case is presented in this report. At surgery, there were multiple tubes of the dermoid sinus tracts of different types. The nuchal sinus was treated using a segmental resection at the area of involvement and a dorsal sling technique was performed. The dog recovered uneventfully and regained normal daily activities within a short time after surgery. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential penetration of simultaneous superpulsed and multiple wavelength (SPMW) PBMT on living tissue in dogs. Mycoplasma bovis (M. bovis) is a pathogen that especially effects the respiratory system of cattle. We focused on the histopathological changes in the lungs caused by M. bovis because the lesions in the bronchi or bronchioles and alveoli are quite different in natural infections. Thirty-five lung samples from 2-to 12-month-old Japanese Black calves with respiratory symptoms were collected and examined for bacteria presence and pathological changes using immunohistochemistry (IHC). Pyometra is a common reproductive disorder in female dogs. This study investigated the protein expression of prostaglandin F2 alpha receptors (PTGFR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in responses to inflammatory events of uterine and cervical tissues in dogs. Uterus and cervix samples were collected from six dogs which had closed-cervix pyometra (n = 3) and opened- cervix pyometra (n = 3). The scope of the present study was to assess the use of Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF) Mass Spectrometry (MS) as a quick technique for the identification of bacterial species in mastitis. In this study, milk samples from each udder quarter from a total of 250 dairy cattle were aseptically collected and tested. The samples were grouped into California Mastitis Test (CMT) positive, CMT negative and clinical mastitis. This study examined the post-operative effects of atipamezole (Ati) and flumazenil (Flu) on stress-related neurohormonal and metabolic responses in isoflurane-anesthetized cats premedicated with medetomidine, midazolam and ketamine and undergoing ovariohysterectomy or castration. Client-owned mixed-breed cats (n = 108) were treated with 50-μg/kg medetomidine and 0.5-mg/kg midazolam, followed by 5-mg/kg ketamine (MMK) intramuscularly (IM) and maintained under isoflurane anesthesia. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a novel method to treat intestinal and extraintestinal diseases by transplanting the microbiota in the feces of healthy animals into the gastrointestinal tracts of patients and reconstructing intestinal flora in the patients' intestine. In this article, we reviewed the recent studies of canine FMT focusing on its indications. The objectives in this study was to investigate the prevalence, seasonal variation and antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella isolated from pork, beef and chicken meat at retail markets in Vientiane capital, Lao PDR. Ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) has been identified to have wide-ranging medical applications related to its antimicrobial activity. The current study aimed to identify the major chemical components of EEP with antibacterial effects, evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of EEP against MDR Salmonella spp. isolates, and further examine the therapeutic efficacy of EEP against MDR S.
