Ceasarean section was performed in a python (Python molurus bivittatus). Anesthesia was induced by using ketamine hydrochloride, 35 mg/kg and maintained by inhalation anesthesia using halothane via endotracheal tube. Celiotomy and salpingotomy were made to remove forty one eggs and the oviducts and skin were subsequently closed. The technique of caesarian section was similar to that of mammals.(ทำการผ่าตัดเอาไข่ออกทางหน้าท้องงูหลาม (Python molurus bivittatus) ซึ่งมีอาการออกไข่ยาก จึงวางยาสลบโดยใช้เคทตามีน ไฮโดรคลอไรด์ 35 มก./กก. รักษาภาวะการสลบ โดยใช้ก๊าซฮาโลเทนผ่านท่อสอดหลอดลม ทำการผ่าตัดเปิดช่องท้องและท่อนำไข่เพื่อเอาไข่ที่เหลืออยู่ออกทั้งหมด 41 ฟอง เย็บปิดท่อนำไข่และผิวหนังเช่นเดียวกับการผ่าตัดเอาลูกออกทางหน้าท้องในสัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนม)

Two hundred and sixty six samples of raw milk were collected at farms and at the corresponding milk collecting centers for bacterial culture. Total bacterial count and coliform count of raw milk collected at farm were significantly lower than of those collected at the milk collection centers (MCC) indicating that the number of bacteria in milk were increased during transportation. The percentage of the samples collected at farm and at MCC with total count less than 500,000 colony forming unit/ml (CFU/ml) were 77.85 and 61.97%, respectively. In vitro test on bacteriocidal effectiveness of 2% Sodium Chlorite solution was evaluated. The disinfectant was diluted to 1:10, 1:32, 1:64 and 1:10 v/v. Each dilution was exposed to different bacteria for 1, 10, 40 and 60 minutes at room temperature. It appeared that Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, Salmonella enteritidis and Sal. typhimurium were completely inhibited within 1 minute at concentration 1:10, 1:32 and 1:64 v/v. Proteus mirabilis was completely inhibited within 1, 1 and 10 minutes at concentration 1:10, 1:32 and 1:64 v/V, 1:64 v/v, respectively. Two hundreds and sixteen samples of raw cow milk were analysed for major milk components using Milko Scan 133B. It was found that 98.1, 95.5, 81.5, 88.4 and 67.6% of samples tested contained fat, protein, lactose, total solids and solids not fat >3.6, >3.2, >4.4, >12.5 and >8.5%, respectively. A paper colour test was used to estimate cholinesterase activity in serum. The determination was done comparing normal catfish serum and in catfish serum in the presence of methyl parathion. Normal serum changed color of the strip paper from blue to yellow rapidly, whereas methyl parathion treated serum with a low cholinesterase activity, needed either more time for the colour to change or it hardly changed at all. The treatment of Fasciola gigantica infection with Bithionol sulfoxide was investigated in sheep that had been experimentally infected with 500 metacercariae. Ten sheep were divided into 3 groups: group 1 (n=4) were given a single dose of Bithionol sulfoxide 80 mg/kg orally at week 22 after infection, group 2 (n=4) were untreated positive controls and group 3 (n=3) were untreated negative controls. An attempt was made to assess the efficacy of antibiotics as in-feed medication to grower pigs by measuring growth performance, feed-cost ratios. Serum and plasma cholinesterase in normal animals were determined concurrently to see whether both values can be used interchangeably. Plasma, with EDTA as an anticoagulant and serum of horses, donkeys, mules, cattle, buffaloes and sheep were collected and cholinesterase activity was determined by colorimetric method. Results showed that plasma cholinesterase activity in all species except cattle was significantly lower than the activity in serum. Oocytes collected from gonadotropin-stimulated calves were matured in vitro for 24 hrs in TCM 199 NaHCO3 +10%FCS supplemented with FSH/LH and Estradiol-17ẞ. The matured oocytes (n= 66) were fertilized in vitro, with frozen bull semen, after a swimup preparation and were later co-incubated for 18 hrs. The embryos were temporarily transferred into the oviducts of two ewes and one doe for 6-7 days. After tubectomy, the embryos were flushed out. Serum antibody titers against Canine Parvovirus (CPV) in puppies after the first CPV vaccination were studied. Total 58 serum samples were obtained from Small Animal Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University. Results revealed by Hemagglutination Inhibition test showed that the puppies had HI-titers between 320-20,480 with Geometric Mean Titer (GMT) 2,717.6. In addition, another set of 56 samples obtained from puppies in Royal Thai Army Military Working Dog Center and private kennels before and 7, 14-day-post vaccination were included. Considerable quantities of non-dietary protein are secreted into the digesta of pigs and poultry. This protein is defined as the protein found in the chyme or faeces when a nitrogen-free diet is fed to animals. Endogenous proteins comprise protein, peptides, amino acids and nitrogen-containing substances from saliva, bile, pancreatic, gastric and intestinal secretions; plasma and sloughed epithelial cells. These endogenous proteins are digested and absorbed in a manner similar to those of dietary origin. Infection with the fluke Fasciola gigantica was detected by the ELISA and the beads techniques and used to determine the antibody titre and egg count per gram (epg) in cattle and buffalo respectively. Each group of 4 cattle and 4 buffalo were infected with 500 and 1000 metacercariae. The experiments were carried out over a period of 28 weeks with sampling taking place every 2-4 weeks. Conjunctival pedicle graft in dogs were studied. Twelve dogs were divided into three groups: conjunctival pedicle graft without protection, conjunctival pedicle graft with third eyelid flap, and conjunctival pedicle graft with tarsorraphy. Ocular discharge, photophobia, corneal opacity, corneal vascularization and graft vessels were detected after operation. The success rates of 100, 75 and 0% were observed in group 2, 3 and 1. Finding of Schistosoma spindale egg in cattle can be easily performed by mucosal scraping of rectum. Mucosal samples of 2-3 cm. long were scraped from dorsal side of the rectum by extended curette, spread on slide and stained with 0.015% malachite green for 10-15 minutes subsequently examined under the microscope. Effectiveness of the mixture of quaternary ammonium, alkyl dimethyl ammomium glyoxal, glutaraldehyde and formaldehyde in the inactivation of bacteria and fungi was conducted in vitro. The studies were performed on 53 strains of bacteria, both Gram's positive and Gram's negative, and 5 strains of contaminant fungi. The concentration of this disinfectant was adjusted to 1:100, 1:250 and 1:500 v/v with the exposure time of 1, 5, 10, 20, 40 and 60 min. Embryo bisection may provide an attractive method for increasing the number of kids born to each donor doe. The present study was conducted to assess the feasibility of transferring goat demi-embryos, obtained from bisection, to increase the yield of offspring from each collection. Six blastocyst stage embryos, of good quality, were selected for bisection. The oocyte collection by using Real time B-mode scanning ultrasound (Ovum Pick Up) was performed in four Thai native calves aged 5-6 mts, weight 100 kg. All calves had an ear norgotromet progestagen implant for 7 days before ovarian stimulation. The calves were stimulated by follicle stimulting hormone (FSH) at dose of 120 mg, IM twice a day (am/pm) for 3 days as follow: 30/30, 20/20, 10/10 mg. Ninety three isolated E. coli from commercially reared chickens were tested for their antimicrobial sensitivity to 26 antimicrobial agents. Percentage of E. coli isolates tested were sensitive to gentamicin, lincomycin +spectino-mycin and danofloxacin; 83.52, 73.91 and 73.12%, respectively. Spectinomycin was the only antimicrobial agent that was not resistance to all E. coli isolates testing. After interviewing 300 pet keepers, two third of respondents are female whose household leaders hold Bachelor degree or above (33.8%) and overall family income is more then 50,000 bahts a month (26.8%). Most pet keepens keep pets as friends (33.5%), obtaining pets from acquaintants (44.1%), purchase (22.7%). Seventy pont two percent of those pet keepers perchase pets from Chatuchak Sunday Market. Ninety-one point seven percent of pets reared are dogs while 41.4% of them are mixed breeds. Before obtaining pets, most pet keepers have no knowledge of pet care (67.6%). The conventional colorimetric method of cholinesterase activity determination in blood and tissues of mammals was applied to investigate the enzyme activity in muscle and nervous cell of aquatic animals which are economically important, such as, tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon fabricus) and giant perch (Lates calcarifer). Decreased enzyme activity in aquatic animals may indicate the contamination of insecticide in water resources. This study demonstrated that the method was suitable for detecting toxicity of organophosphate insecticide due to its convenience, simplicity and no sophisticated or expensive instruments needed. A continuing incidence of abortion record was investigated in a 1700 sow-breeding farm during 1992 through the first three quarters of 1995. The abortion rate per pregnant sows per year were 2.5, 3.7, 3.9 and 3.2% respectively compared to 0.3% recorded in 1991. Six months before, the farm has introduced the first batch of replacement gilts from a domestic breeding supplier into the farm. No obvious clinical signs were observed in sows. Laboratory evidences did not show any significant association with any conventional infection of the agents related the abortion. Thailand has one of the richest freshwater small fauna in the world; over 170 species are currently recognized. However, species that transmit animal diseases, or are suspected to, are relatively few. At present, only 23 freshwater snail species are implicated or suspected in animal disease transmission. These species are restricted to two orders and seven families. B-mode, Real-Time Ultrasound with 5 MHz Linear Array Transducer were used for pregnancy examination. Twenty five female dogs with different gestation period were examined. During early gestation period (19-29 days), round or oval embryonic vesicles with embryo in embryonic fluid were seen. Embryonic heart activity was detected at about 21-22 days of gestation and was seen easily in the middle and late gestation. At 30-35 days of gestation, the embryo developed hypoechoic head and body with embryonic movement. After 36 days of gestation the hyperechoic skeleton, hypoechoic organs and embryonic activities can be clearly identified. A PRRS virus specific antibody among swine breeding farms in Thailand was studied. Serum samples were collected from 15 breeder farms in central and north-eastern part of Thailand during January to March 1995. Of total 449 samples, 286 (64%) were revealed PRRS-antibody indicated the history of PRRS virus exposure. The exposure rate was varied from 20-90% from farm to farm which appeared among replacement gilts, primiparous sows, multiparous sows and boars. The highest prevalence (75%) was in replacement gilts. Prepubertal neutering in dogs has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include reduction of the incidence of mammary gland neoplasia and reduction of sexual behavior. The disadvantages are elongation of long bone and an inflammation of the external genitalia. Anesthesia of young dog may be more risky than in the adult. Effects of prepubertal neutering on urethral diameter and sex hormone imbalance dermatosis are not well documented. The acute toxicity of carbaryl was determined for giant pearch (Lates calcarifer) in static exposure systems. The mean 96-h LC was 2.95 mg/litre. All exposed fishes at first showed symptoms of carbaryl intoxication such as hyperexcitability, decrease in swimming performance, loss of coordination movement and reduction of food intake. Severity of intoxication and mortality rate were found to be dose dependent. Decreased cholinesterase activity in muscle and brain of all treated fishes was also observed withincreasing of carbaryl concentration. The reduction of cholinesterase in muscle and brain of all treated groups was statistically significant (p < 0.05) comparing with the control group.(ศึกษาความเป็นพิษเฉียบพลันของคาร์บาริลในปลากะพงขาวหลังแช่นาน 96 ชั่วโมง ค่า LC50 ภายใน 96 ชั่วโมงเท่ากับ 2.95 มก./ลิตร พบว่าปลาทุกกลุ่มที่ได้รับคาร์บาริลแสดง อาการเป็นพิษโดยมีอาการกระวนกระวาย ว่ายน้ำช้าลง สูญเสียการทรงตัว กินอาหารน้อยลง ความรุนแรงของอาการและเปอร์เซนต์การตายของปลาเพิ่มขึ้นตามขนาดความเข้มข้นของ สารฆ่าแมลงที่ได้รับ สมรรถนะของเอนไซม์โซลีนเอสเทอเรสในกล้ามเนื้อและสมองของปลาทุกกลุ่มลดลงตามขนาดความเข้มข้นของสารฆ่าแมลงที่เพิ่มขึ้นและต่ำกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ p < 0.05)
