Background: Disparities persist in adverse birth outcomes — preterm birth and small-for-gestational age (SGA) among racialized populations. Previous studies have indicated that voting restrictions are associated with health outcomes, such as access to health insurance and teenage birth rates. This paper examines whether the association between voting restrictions and adverse birth outcomes varies according to birthing individuals’ race/ethnicity. Methods: These analyses merged individual-level 2019–2020 Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS, 8th edition) data with state-level exposure information. In the dynamic landscape of global health, the sexual behaviors of adolescents are of particular significance due to their profound implications for individual well-being and public health. This article focuses on Creek Town, a vibrant community in Nigeria, and aims to provide a nuanced exploration of the sexual behaviors of adolescents within the context of local culture and socioeconomic factors. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, involving a multi-stage sampling approach with 422 participants. A comprehensive 112-item questionnaire captured various aspects of adolescent sexual behaviors. Additionally, four focus group discussions, including both in-school and out-of-school adolescents, provided qualitative insights. The …

PURPOSE: Dermal backflow visualized on near-infrared fluorescence lymphatic imaging (NIRF-LI) signals preclinical lymphedema that precedes the development of volumetrically defined lymphedema. We sought to evaluate whether dermal backflow correlates with patient-reported lymphedema outcomes (PRLO) surveys in breast cancer patients treated with regional nodal irradiation (RNI).

METHODS AND MATERIALS: Patients with breast cancer planned for axillary dissection and RNI prospectively underwent perometry, NIRF-LI, and PRLOs (the Lymphedema Symptom Intensity and Distress Survey [LSIDS] and QuickDASH) at baseline, after surgery, and at 6, 12, and 18 months after radiation. Objective

Examine the appeal of a virtual avatar-led nutrition education program among youth-serving community partners in North Carolina.

Methods

We surveyed community partners using the Diffusion of Innovation Theory constructs of relative advantage, compatibility, and complexity. Logistic regression evaluated the appeal and likelihood of the program's future use.

Results

Community partners (n = 100) agreed that the program was an innovative (87%) and convenient (85%) way for youth and parents to learn about nutrition. Partners who perceived the program as a relative advantage to current programs had significantly higher odds of future use intention (P = 0.005). Those who found …

Air pollution poses a significant public health threat to urban populations worldwide. Mobile groups such as international students face unique vulnerabilities, but their risk adaptation capacity remains understudied. This study assessed awareness, perception, and protective measures of PM2.5 among Chinese international students in Bangkok and its vicinity. This study used a validated scale to conduct a cross-sectional survey of 393 participants. The results revealed that while students exhibited a high level of risk perception regarding air pollution (mean score: 48.0 ± 7.6), their awareness was relatively low (mean score: 6.3 ± 2.9), with only 3.8% of respondents demonstrating "high awareness". …

Background: Fruit and vegetable consumption will enhance human health because of their nutritional composition. A balanced diet should consist of at least 400g (5 servings) of fruits and vegetables per day according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Inadequate consumption of fruits and vegetables was linked to 19% of gastrointestinal cancer, 31% of ischemic heart disease, and 11% of strokes globally. Additionally, there were 26.7 million (1.8%) DALYs and 2.7 million (4.9%) deaths due to poor fruit and vegetable intake. Purpose: To systematically review the patient's satisfaction (PS) levels within academic hospitals in Saudi Arabia from January 2012 to the end of October 2022.

Data Sources: Articles were gathered from PubMed, ProQuest, Google Scholar and Web of Science.

Study selection/data extraction: This review identified studies that assessed PS in Saudi Arabian university hospitals. Articles published before January 2012, as well as commentary letters, conference papers, theses and dissertations, were excluded. In a case example from the Kentucky HEALing Communities Study, extensive resources were deployed to address structural barriers and facilitate the provision of medication for opioid use disorder (OUD) in an urban county jail. However, implementation was unsuccessful, and this case example emphasizes the importance of including evidence-based medication for OUD (MOUD) treatment in the scope of work of jails’ contracted medical providers. MRSA poses a significant health risk to athletes nationwide. This case study examines the application of an online training module to address knowledge gaps regarding Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) among key decision-makers for high school athletes. It reviews the development and initial evaluation of a web-based training program designed to empower decision-makers with the knowledge to prevent MRSA infection and respond to suspected cases. This case study included a fictitious MRSA outbreak at a Kentucky high school football camp and the response of the Fayette County Public School System (FCPS) and the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department (LFCHD). Using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Framework for Program Evaluation, I evaluated the Educational Infectious Disease Program designed by the FCPS and LFCHD. Previous studies have linked maternal depression with poor infant sleep (e.g., waking up at night and infants having trouble settling to sleep). This study examined the relationship between maternal depressive symptoms at three time points and safe infant sleep at 6-month follow-up.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to examine the overall as well as age- and sex-specific burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the US using nationwide commercial claims data from 2016-2019.

Research Design and Methods We used nationwide commercial claims data (1/1/2016-12/31/2019) from Merative™MarketScan to identify adults ≥20 years with T1D (ascertained using ICD-10 codes). Cancer survivorship care programs play a vital role in supporting cancer survivors and improving their quality of life. Understanding the landscape of survivorship and the potential barriers is key to optimizing care delivery.

Methods:

The primary purpose of this cross-sectional study was to explore existing cancer survivorship care programs offered by Commission on Cancer (CoC) accredited hospitals in Kentucky. Data from the Markey Cancer Affiliate Network (MCCAN) from 2022 through 2023 was analyzed. Variables included hospital characteristics such as rural code, types of survivorship services offered, and reported barriers to these services.

Compared to other states in the country, Kentucky has historically poor population health outcomes. While the statewide maternal mortality rate is 16.1 per 100,000 live births, this statistic belies the stark racial disparities that exist. In 2018, the pregnancy-related death rate for Black women was 40.2 per 100,000 live births compared to 13.1 for White women. This pattern is persistent even after controlling for socioeconomic status, prenatal care, and other protective factors. Research shows that institutional and interpersonal racism when receiving obstetric care contributes to poor childbirth and postpartum outcomes for Black women.
