Serial CA125 and second line transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) screening in the UKCTOCS indicated a shift towards detection of earlier stage ovarian cancer (OvCa), but did not yield a significant mortality reduction. There remains a need to establish additional biomarkers that can complement CA125 for even earlier and at a larger proportion of new cases. Cigarette smoking remains a major health crisis in the United States, claiming the lives of hundreds of thousands of tobacco users each year. Objectives: Recent studies address missing survival outcomes in the National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS), a system that stores and shares standardized EMS data from U.S. States and Territories. This study aspired to improve imputed EMS outcome accuracy and establish benchmarks for common medical emergencies treated in prehospital care. Methods: This retrospective cohort study of ground-transported EMS patients with definitive end-of-EMS-event outcomes, based on dataset years 2017 to 2023, predicted the probability of “dead” or “alive” status using logistic regression. Objective: To investigate the frequency of various weight loss strategies among adults in the United States and to explore which weight-loss strategies are associated with several demographic factors.

Methods: The study utilized 2017–2020 data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Adult participants (N = 3,130) who had tried to lose weight during the past year were included. Pregnant women and individuals under age 20y were excluded. We investigate JN.1-derived subvariants SLip, FLiRT, and KP.2 for neutralization by antibodies in vaccinated individuals, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-infected patients, or class III monoclonal antibody S309. Compared to JN.1, SLip, KP.2, and especially FLiRT exhibit increased resistance to bivalent-vaccinated and BA.2.86/JN.1-wave convalescent human sera. XBB.1.5 monovalent-vaccinated hamster sera robustly neutralize FLiRT and KP.2 but have reduced efficiency for SLip. All subvariants are resistant to S309 and show decreased infectivity, cell-cell fusion, and spike processing relative to JN.1. BACKGROUND: Tonic and atonic "drop attack" seizures are a classic and morbid semiology in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, resulting in frequent injuries and emergency room visits, in addition to neurocognitive sequelae. Recent years have seen a growing interest in less invasive techniques for performing the classic surgical treatment for drop attacks in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, that is, corpus callosotomy.

OBSERVATIONS: A 5-year-old boy with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome presented for surgical evaluation. He experienced up to 20 daily tonic seizures despite multiple antiseizure medications. This course is an introduction to the social, behavioral, and commercial factors that influence health. Theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of these determinants will be discussed from a social ecological perspective. Social determinants cover five domains: economic stability, education access and quality, health care access and quality, neighborhood and built environment, and social and community context. Behavioral determinants include such factors as smoking, physical activity, and alcohol use. Commercial determinants include economic and political domains with examples such as cigarette marketing and the placement of toxic waste sites in low-income communities.

Twenty-five percent of people experiencing homelessness have pets, but few transitional housing programs allow pets (Rhoades et al., 2015); therefore, there is a gap in the literature about the experience of pet ownership during the transitional housing process. The presence of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase and colistin resistance E. coli in food-producing animals is a public health concern. This study was conducted using a rigorous methodology to survey the prevalence of ESBL-producing and colistin-resistant E. coli from pig farms in the central part of Thailand. A total of 519 samples were collected from fecal, feed, and waste in 53 farms located in central Thailand. All samples were inoculated onto selective agar, and species identification was performed using biochemical assays and MAlDI-TOF MS. The Open Defecation Free (ODF) program was initiated by the government to increase access to healthy latrines. This study aimed to evaluate the ODF program using the CIPP evaluation model. A qualitative and exploratory descriptive method was adopted to investigate informants' experiences regarding the program's implementation. Data was explored through semi-structured interviews with 17 informants and analyzed using content analysis.
