The study was a comparative retrospective analysis to determine the effectiveness of MORT (Management Oversight and Risk Tree), a system safety method, in reducing the incidence and cost of occupational injuries occurring at the Tennessee Wheel and Rubber Company. Implementation of MORT on April 1, 1974 at the plant facility allowed for statistical comparison of accidents between the time periods April 1, 1972 through March 31, 1974 and April 1, 1974 through March 31, 1976.
Data on injury incidence were gathered by researching the company's worker compensation reports. Cost figures for injuries were drawn from computer printouts provided by the …

We present in this issue of The Cairo Papers a broad spectrum of articles dealing with the children of Egypt and their families; each article has a research base in the real world of childhood and each in its own way suggests trends for further work in both research and applied areas in child development. Since the 1960s, the solution to contraception problems has been based increasingly on complexity, not simplicity. The oral contraceptive was developed in the late 1950s using newly discovered synthetic hormones that act in intricate ways on glands in the brain. Intrauterine devices were widely introduced in the 1960s in a host of scientifically engineered configurations that act inside a woman’s uterus. Nearly half of all married couples in the United States who use some method of contraception use either the pill or IUD. This Charity Hospital Tumor Registry monograph covers the period 1948 through 1975, and includes all patients with a diagnosis of cancer who were seen at Charity Hospital of Louisiana at New Orleans. A total of 45,493 cases were abstracted of which 41,049 are described in the monograph. This Registry includes skin cancer and all in situ cancers as well as 189 benign mixed tumors of the salivary gland, 262 meningiomas of the brain, 191 carcinoid tumors of the intestine, and 58 granulosa cell tumors of the ovary. Excluded from analysis were 4,444 cases because of lack of histologic confirmation or …

An Ischemic Infarct In Medulla And Cervical Cord, Ezzatollah Shivapour, Gilbert B. Solitare

This report documents an unusual case of an occlusion of the anterior spinal artery of the medulla oblongata. The patient presented with involvement of the left accessory nerve and weakness of ipsilateral extremities. The diagnosis of an ischemic infarct in the distribution of the left proximal portion of the anterior spinal artery was made. Bulbar weakness, quadriplegia, and respiratory arrest developed. Postmortem examination, 23 days after onset, revealed an old infarct in the medulla which appeared as a more recent hemorrhagic infarct throughout the cervical cord.
