Low levels of physical activity and fitness substantially increase risk of several chronic diseases, reduce longevity, and lead to loss of function. The strength and relation of inactivity to health problems and the high prevalence of sedentary habits in most countries of the world make lack of exercise a major public health problem. Fortunately, there is now good consensus regarding public health recommendations for physical activity from many important medical, scientific, and public health organizations. Recent research on physical activity interventions provides additional approaches to helping sedentary adults become more physically active.

Five years later, the Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) was transferred to the …
The Determinants Of Post-Discharge Healthcare Utilization And Outcomes For Veterans With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A Social Ecological Perspective, Shyuemeng Luu
Theses and Dissertations
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has a persistent nature: PTSD troubles patients
even decades after the occurrence of traumatic events. The “health behavioral model” is
adopted to examine the effects of external environmental, predisposing, enabling, and
need for care factors on the use of VA post-discharge ambulatory care and readmissions.
Data were obtained from the Patient Treatment File (PTF) and the Outpatient Care File
(OPT), the Area Resource File (ARF), American Hospital Association data sets (AHA), and the Uniform Crime Report (UCR).
The use of VA post-discharge ambulatory care is analyzed by using structural equation modeling (SEM). The readmission to VAMCs …

Student Works (2000-2009)
Natural autoantibodies (NAA} are autoantibodies that are present in the sera of healthy individuals. NAA can belong to the lgA, lgG and lgM isotypcs. They exhibit high degrees of polyreactivity and connectivity but low affinity to self antigens. The main function of NAA in healthy people is probably 10 clear the catabolic waste and ageing cells. In this study, an indirect Enzyme-linked lmmunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method was used to detect NAA against hormones, namely adreno-co11ical (hydrocortisone, aldostcrone, androstcncdionc), adrcno-medullary (adrenaline. noradrenaline) and other related steroid hormones (progesterone, testosterone, P-cstradiol). In eleven normal human serum (NHS), lgG anti-cortisol were delcctcd in …

University Baccalaureate Curriculum Analysis For Safety And Health In The United States Of America (Usa) Toward A Model University Baccalaureate Curriculum, Margie L. Kolbe-Mims
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
The goal of this research was to determine a model safety and health baccalaureate curriculum. A secondary target was to ascertain if safety and health practitioners and safety and health educators would concur on course offerings. To simplify this study effort, a search of literature was conducted on the Occupational Safety and Health field. There were no in-depth studies of this type for such a general population; therefore no instrument was available for this study. The perusal of literature indicated that most such studies had been conducted using a more specific target group of subjects. That is, faculties or former …

Analyse Comparative Des Principales Méthodes D'Évaluation Des Risques De Maux De Dos Et Préparation D'Une Grille D'Identification Des Facteurs De Risques, Robert Gilbert, Daniel Leblanc, Sylvie Nadeau

Tactile Hazardous Material Information System (Thmis), Alejandro Ruiz
Tactile Hazardous Material Information System (Thmis), Alejandro Ruiz
Theses
In today's work environment, many dangers exist around that can harm workers who are not aware of the hazards in their environment. If these workers happen to be visually impaired, then identifying those hazards with the present labeling systems would be difficult. The Hazardous Material Information System (HMIS) was chosen to be adapted with tactile patterns and numbers. The tactile patterns and numbers would not change the layout and intent of the HMIS, but enhance its effectiveness.
Five tactile patterns and five tactile numbers were designed to be recognizable and simple. The patterns and numbers were tested and observed to …

Clinical Waste Management In The Northern States Of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah And Sarawak, Abdul Hai Akbar Ali
Student Works (2000-2009)
Clinical waste management and disposal methods are quite unique due to their infectious and harmful nature. Unlike municipal waste, clinical waste is pathogenic which jeopardizes the biotic community including human beings, if not quelled of its pathogenic effect.. However, shortcomings or drawbacks are still possible in areas of source separation. inappropriate containment and labeling. Improper incineration may also lead to incomplete combustion ultimately leading to air pollution. Though existing system of clinical waste disposal and management in Malaysia seem adequate, still efficient and cost effective mechanisms are needed. The focus of this research is to survey and study the administrative …
