The present study is an attempt to objectify the subjective concept of adaptive behavior and to show the effect of institutionalization upon adaptive behavior.

The development of an Adaptive Behavior Rating Sheet consisting of forty-five items is a major portion of this study.

The Adaptive Behavior Rating Sheet was administered to a sample of ninety patients who, at the time of administration, had been in the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center (PSH&TC) between one year six months and two years six months.

This study examined the differences in verbal and numerical ability according to the extreme Verbal (V) and Quantitative (Q) SCAT scores. Validity and clinical scales were analyzed as separate profiles. The results supported previous studies.

This paper contains the statistical results of a "buckshot" congruent validation study of one objective TAT scoring variable, Perceptual Organization (PO). PO was developed from personality theory and from an explicit rationale for the construction of scoring systems for projective techniques. PO is scored from a five card, short-form, TAT set which yields scores comparable to a 20 card set. A series of concurrent validation studies culminated in a manual for application of the scoring system in which PO is one variable. PO is a reliable score (scorer reliability; test-retest) and valid for prediction of clinical diagnosis (current validity). That …

The College of Forest, Range and Wildlife Management (hereafter referred to as the College of Forestry) at Utah State University has been concerned for some time with the problem of selecting from the applicants to their school the ones whom they think will be able to complete the requirements for graduation. The large number of freshman students placed on probation at the end of the fall quarter and of succeeding quarters each year fives some idea of the magnitude of the problem. It is not unusual for 40 or 50 percent of the entering freshmen to be in this category.

In this study an effort was made to determine, in part, if the fears of persons who have been decrying the use of subliminal stimulation in advertising were realistic. Accepting the work of other scholars that this phase of perception does exist, this writer attempted to explore one facet of the problem with this hypothesis: persons who receive subliminal stimuli will be more apt to consciously recall the stimuli if they are aware that the stimuli are being given.

This manual presents a concise but abbreviated statement of one objective TAT scoring system and its predictive efficiency. It is designed to facilitate application of this approach to TAT scoring. Although the rationale upon which this method is predicated derives from certain specific assumptions regarding personality, the clinical use of these categories does not demand any particular theoretical persuasion. The author recognizes two kinds of validity germane to projective instruments: (a) validity, prediction of clinical diagnosis; (b) validity, prediction of personality characteristics. This manual deals only with validity.

Primarily it was desired to study the exact statistical relationship between academic success at University of Richmond and each of several scores obtained in the freshman testing program. Recently there has been increasing interest in the use of intra-individual test discrepancies as a measure of functioning efficiency. One of the major problems in establishing scatter patterns has been that of finding a suitable internal reference point. The three reference points most commonly employed are the mean or IQ, the vocabulary score, and the altitude or maximum score.
