The purpose of this study is to assess the reliability and validity of the iPhone Measure app to measure hip internal rotation (IR) and external rotation (ER). Context: It is estimated that college football players sustain an average of 3 subconcussive blows to the head per game. Limited research has demonstrated that collegiate football players present with decreased static postural control, as measured using the Balance Error Scoring System, at the end of season compared to baseline. Interestingly, neurocognitive test scores in collegiate football players were not found to differ preseason, midseason and postseason. Authors hypothesized that using neurocognitive tests may not have been sensitive enough to detect the effects of the subconcussive impacts. Context: Tie-down roping, an event in rodeo, occurs when the athlete ropes a calf while on horseback, quickly dismounts from the horse and ties three legs of the calf together. Injuries to the knee and lower body have occurred with athletes in the tie-down roping event. Previous research with college rodeo athletes has shown the knee to be the most frequently injured area of the body. The athlete’s lower body movements during the dismount from the horse may increase the risk of injury to the knee. Background: A 21-year-old, male, collegiate baseball player reported to the athletic training staff complaining of pain along the posteromedial aspect of the right elbow. The patient reported a previous history of a grade I ulnar collateral ligament sprain that had been rehabilitated until he was able to return to full pain free activities. The patient could not recall a specific mechanism of injury. Physical examination revealed a loss of terminal elbow extension, and pain along the posteromedial aspect of the elbow. Background

Our main objective was to compare the characteristics and hospital outcomes of patients with primary and metastatic brain malignancies and to investigate the associated factors related to hospital outcomes.

Methods

We conducted a retrospective, cross-sectional study of 1628 patients with brain malignancies from 8 community hospitals between 2017 and 2022 who were identified using International Classification of Disease codes. A stepwise logistic regression was used to identify demographics and clinical characteristics associated with in-hospital mortality and home discharge.

Results

The median age was 65 years old, with 72.5% of patients having metastatic brain malignancies. After 7.2 days of hospital …

This study aspired to improve imputed EMS outcome accuracy and establish benchmarks for common medical emergencies treated in prehospital care. Mobile health (mHealth) technologies might reduce costs of care and increase patient self-efficacy in chronic disease management, but the patient experience of mHealth is poorly understood. Introduction:

Radiation therapy using tangential fields is a common treatment for breast cancer, targeting the tumor while reducing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues such as the heart and lungs. Forward-planned "field-in-field" IMRT (FP-IMRT) is widely used for its ability to provide uniform dose distribution and spare normal tissue, despite requiring high planning skill and time. Inverse-planning IMRT (IP-IMRT) offers better conformal dose to targets with reduced planning variability and time. This study compares FP-IMRT and IP-IMRT in left-sided breast cancer patients using the deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) technique.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death for men in the U.S. and Black men are twice as likely to die from the disease. However, prostate cancer, if diagnosed at an earlier stage, is curable. The purpose of this review is to identify prostate cancer screening clinical trials that evaluate screening decision-making processes of Black men.

Introduction: In the U.S., xylazine, the veterinary non-opioid sedative, has emerged as a major threat to people who use illicitly manufactured fentanyl and other drugs. The aim of this study was to compare wastewater detection of xylazine with other public health and safety surveillance data from 2019 to 2023 in Kentucky.

Methods: Wastewater samples from 5 rest areas, 2 truck weigh stations, and 4 wastewater treat- ment plants were tested for xylazine. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is highly effective yet under-utilized for catalyzing personal change inertia. Recent meta-analyses demonstrated statistically significant improvement in BMI, A1C, and blood pressure. Stimulated contractions are shown to increase toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) release from C2C12 myotubes in vitro. The purpose of this study was to determine if the release of TLR4 from myotubes is controlled by proteolytic membrane cleavage. A broad-spectrum metalloprotease inhibitor was used to test this hypothesis in a C2C12 cell culture model, and TLR4 concentrations in the cell culture supernatant were measured via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) following stimulated myotube contractions.

Vaccination rates against COVID-19 are lower in rural areas across the country, including SC. This paper highlights the work conducted by Clemson Cooperative Extension Service in SC to increase rural access to COVID-19 testing and vaccine services. Extension Agents engaged in clinical and community partnerships to coordinate COVID-19 vaccine and testing clinics in rural and underserved communities. Agents established 204 test clinics and 220 vaccination clinics. The total number of people tested and vaccinated was 9,331 and 2,037, respectively. The success of this project shows Extension agents can be instrumental in bridging the gap between clinical resources and rural communities.

High Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer (HGSOC) has a 5-year survival rate of less than 50%. Ovarian cancer is one of the deadliest gynecological diseases and the 7th most common female cancer worldwide. Ovarian cancer patients generally have a poor prognosis despite the relatively successful treatments. When conventional cancer treatments, such as cisplatin chemotherapy and photon irradiation, are administered, residual cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) can survive, leading to CSC enrichment. CSCs are a small population of cancer cells that exhibit stem-like characteristics: quiescence (slowing of the cell cycle), differentiation, proliferation, and self-renewal to regenerate new CSCs. Vascular dysfunction is the earliest known marker of neurodegeneration. However, limited research has been conducted to determine if changes in peripheral vascular function track differences in brain health. Therefore, the purpose was to determine if previously reported sex differences in near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) vascular occlusion test (VOT) parameters persist across the lifespan and if these differences track age- and sex-related differences in a cognitive task. Ninety-nine healthy, cognitively intact adults (50 women, 49 men) across the adult lifespan (19-81 yrs) were used for analysis.
