Introduction: Previous research has suggested an association between lack of sleep and well-being. Given higher rates of burnout among female clinicians, the Sutter Health “Joy of Work” team (a multidisciplinary group dedicated to improving organizational well-being) conducted a pilot among female clinicians in ambulatory services to assess factors associated with sleep, professional fulfillment, and intention to leave/reduce work hours.
Methods: The intervention consisted of several components: an Oura ring (a wearable smart ring device that tracks activity, sleep, and heart rate); health coaches who sent text messages to participants and advised those participants with additional resources and questions; and three …
Moral Distress In Secondary School Athletic Trainers, Matthew J. Drescher, Matthew J. Rivera, Lindsey E. Eberman
Moral Distress In Secondary School Athletic Trainers, Matthew J. Drescher, Matthew J. Rivera, Lindsey E. Eberman
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Moral distress is prevalent in healthcare and prolonged moral distress is directly linked to feelings of burnout and intent to leave the profession. Moral distress has been examined in other healthcare professions, including physician practice and nursing, but not in athletic training. Due to their likelihood to be isolated and have high patient loads, secondary school athletic trainers (SSATs) may experience moral distress. This study aimed to examine the experiences and perceptions of moral distress in SSATs. SSATs were recruited via email through the Athletic Training Locations and Services (ATLAS) database. A total of 603 SSATs completed the survey and …

Introduction: Healthcare provider burnout, an indicator of wellbeing, impacts patient safety, provider distress, and employee turnover. In this mixed methods, multi-site quality improvement study conductedpandemic, we assessed employee wellbeing in a large clinical department.
Methods: Wellbeing surveys were sent electronically to Department of Medicine clinicians, researchers, administrators, and staff from August-September 2019 assessing perceptions of Burnout, Emotional Thriving (ET), and Emotional Recovery (ER). Qualitative responses were reviewed for themes using mixed inductive-deductive analysis. The initial coding was done by small teams with consensus obtained through large group discussions. This study was IRB-approved as non-human subjects research.

Professional Quality Of Life In Respiratory Therapists: A Cross-Sectional Study Of The Prevalence And Predictors For Compassion Satisfaction, Burnout, And Secondary Traumatic Stress, Sarah Pehlke
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones
Background: Research on professional quality of life (QOL) variables in healthcare providers proliferated following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Evidence suggests that caregiving careers have positive and negative effects (Beck, 2011). Insufficient research describes these effects in respiratory therapists (RTs), a group of healthcare practitioners who often work in high-stress situations and provide care to high-acuity patient populations.
Purpose: This study evaluated the prevalence and predictors of professional QOL factors, compassion satisfaction (CS), burnout, and secondary traumatic stress (STS), in staff RTs in the United States.
Methods: RTs were invited to participate in a cross-sectional survey evaluating demographics, workplace …
Job-Related Attitudes And Burnout Amongst Medical Physicists In The United States, Deborah L. Schofield
Job-Related Attitudes And Burnout Amongst Medical Physicists In The United States, Deborah L. Schofield
Health Sciences Program Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
In the last forty-five years, burnout has evolved from a psychological fad to a validated syndrome included in both the 10th and 11th editions of the International Classification of Diseases by the World Health Organization. Numerous studies have been conducted to determine the prevalence and toll of burnout within the health care sector including within the field of oncology. However, the impact of this syndrome on medical physicists has been largely unevaluated. This dissertation study aims to fill the gap in the literature by examining job-related attitudes and burnout amongst medical physicists in the United States. Themulti-dimensional theory of burnout …

Introduction
Academic Emergency Physicians (EPs) face additional unique challenges in optimizing wellness compared to community EPs.
Objective
Our objective was to explore specific individual and systems challenges that academic EPs encounter that affect their wellbeing and professional fulfillment in emergency medicine (EM).
Methods
An expert group of academic EPs convened in 2019 at the annual meeting of the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine to investigate the overall causes of burnout in healthcare providers, the effects of burnout on the healthcare system, specific causes of burnout in EM, and the distinct challenges facing academic emergency physicians.
Results
We outline specific causes …
Job Stress Effects On Job Satisfaction And Attrition In 9-1-1 Call Centers, Damarys Jaile Gilligan
Job Stress Effects On Job Satisfaction And Attrition In 9-1-1 Call Centers, Damarys Jaile Gilligan
Theses and Dissertations
In 9-1-1 call centers across the nation the personnel shortage has become a crisis. The nature of the job of a 9-1-1 telecommunicator is stressful due to the high volume of emergency calls. This applied dissertation was designed to learn if there is a relationship between job stress, burnout levels, and job satisfaction in 9-1-1 telecommunicators. This was a nonexperimental quantitative survey research with a correlational approach. The population was a nonprobability convenience sample recruited through the Survey Monkey Audience platform. Data was collected at one point in time. A total of 37 participants took part in the study. All …
