Stage III melanoma includes nodal metastasis or in-transit disease. Five-year survival rates vary between 32% and 93%. The identification of high-risk patients is important for clinical decision making. We demonstrated previously that ≥1 circulating tumor cells (CTCs) at baseline was associated with recurrence. In this study, we investigated how frequently CTCs were identified prior to radiologically detected recurrence. Stage III patients (n = 325) had imaging at baseline and q 3 months. Baseline and q 6-12 months blood draws (7.5 mL) were performed to identify CTCs up to 3.5 years from diagnosis. CTC assessment was performed using the immunomagnetic …

BACKGROUND: Treatment adherence is a vital aspect in the management of chronic diseases like leprosy; however, most studies on treatment adherence focus on patients. This study aims to examine the perceptions of healthcare providers on factors that can promote or prevent patients from adhering to treatment.

METHODS: We conducted three focus group discussions (FGDs) with healthcare providers who have at least one year experience in managing leprosy in three large leprosy case-holding hospitals in Metro Manila, Philippines. Introduction: Raynaud’s phenomenon (RP) is predominately a sympathetically mediated ischemic vasospastic disease involving the distal limbs and is associated with sharp pains, numbness, and dermatological color changes. The symptoms are commonly induced by cold weather, stress, and trauma and it is known to affect 4.85% of the population. There are few well-defined treatments for patients with RP that are refractory to 1st-line therapies. We present a case of intractable RP with corresponding response to stellate ganglion block (SGB) which demonstrates the efficacy profile and safety of SNS blocks in treatment of resistant RP.

Introduction

Nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola (NHKNA) is a rare cutaneous entity with a distinct clinical and histological presentation. The type II form of this condition can result from various dermatoses, such as irritant contact dermatitis. Erosive papulonodular dermatitis is a chronic irritant dermatitis that often occurs in areas of occlusion and maceration, such as peristomal skin. Pseudoverrucous papules and nodules are a variant of erosive papulonodular dermatitis and have a non-specific histologic pattern of reactive hyperplasia.

Background: Sensory nerve damage is the earliest leprosy sign which can lead to disability. Previous studies showed that autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) perineural blind injection can stimulate leprosy sensory nerve regeneration. Our study provided a safer and more accurate PRP agent delivery method through ultrasound-guided injection and was the first to compare PRP versus standard neuropathy treatment, the neurotropic vitamin. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of combination therapy of ultrasound-guided PRP perineural injection and oral vitamin B complex compared to single oral vitamin B complex in sensory peripheral neuropathy of posterior tibial nerve in leprosy patients.

Wound healing is triggered by inflammation elicited after tissue injury. Mesenchymal cells, specifically fibroblasts, accumulate in the injured tissues, where they engage in tissue repair through the expression and assembly of extracellular matrices that provide a scaffold for cell adhesion, the re-epithelialization of tissues, the production of soluble bioactive mediators that promote cellular recruitment and differentiation, and the regulation of immune responses. If appropriately deployed, these processes promote adaptive repair, resulting in the preservation of the tissue structure and function. OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Mycosis Fungoides (MF) is the most common subtype of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Disease involvement of specific locations may be more significant than simply the symptoms associated with that site; it is possible that involvement of certain sites could be associated with poor prognosis. We aimed to evaluate the outcomes of patients with MF with documented involvement of the EAC and external ear.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective analysis.

METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 40 patients with MF that were treated by otologists between 2012 and 2021.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is a challenging disease to treat because of typically late-stage diagnoses and tumor formation in difficult-to-treat areas, sensitive to aggressive or invasive treatments. To date, HNSCC treatments have been limited to surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, which may have significant morbidity and often lead to long-lasting side effects. Introduction: The purpose of this evidence-based practice Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to prospectively evaluate the ability to alter the behavior of young adults by providing sunscreen education and thereby reduce their risk of skin cancer from sun exposure. Twenty-three collegiate athletes ages 18 to 21 years old who were on the university softball team were enrolled. These student athletes were then educated about the impact of daily sun protection and risk factors. The goal was to observe an increase in sunscreen use and increase sun exposure awareness.
