The Ninth Chondroid Syringoma With Bone Formation: A Case Report, Mojan Deriss, Kelsey Ouyang, Parnian Alizadeh, Amir Qorbani, Voicu S. Ciobanu

Annual Research Symposium

This poster presents a rare case of chondroid syringoma with ossification, representing only the ninth reported instance of bone formation within this adnexal tumor. The report describes a slowly enlarging facial nodule in a 34-year-old male, detailing clinical presentation, surgical excision, and histopathologic findings. Microscopy revealed characteristic epithelial cords and tubules within a myxoid stroma, along with mature lamellar bone formation, confirming the diagnosis. The case expands the known morphologic spectrum of chondroid syringomas and highlights the importance of considering this entity in the differential diagnosis of benign facial masses, particularly when unusual features such as ossification are present.

Difficulties In Diagnosing Primary Cutaneous Mucormycosis: Excluding Mycobacterium Other Than Tuberculosis, Chinda Liaska Indah, Sri Linuwih Susetyo Wardhani Menaldi, Sondang Pandjaitan Sirait, Sandra Widaty

Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia

Background: Mucormycosis is a rare fungal infection caused by a group of opportunistic fungi from the class Zygomycetes. Primary cutaneous mucormycosis is the most common type of mucormycosis in immunocompetent patients. This study reported a case of primary cutaneous mucormycosis with nonspecific clinical characteristics and various supporting examinations. The patient was successfully treated with in toto excision and oral ketoconazole.

Case Illustration: A 40-year-old female presented with purplish-red spots and painless lumps on the second finger of her right hand, which had been present for a year. She had a history of frequent fish tank cleaning and gardening but …

Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia

Background: Chromoblastomycosis (CBM) is a rare, chronic granulomatous and suppurative skin infection classified as a subcutaneous mycosis. CBM has a poor prognosis with a low cure rate and a high recurrence rate. The lack of scientific data regarding the diagnosis and treatment of CBM also presents a challenge for clinicians in treating this disease. Appropriate therapy can increase the cure rate and prevent disease recurrence.

Dermoscopic And Histopathologic Findings In Diagnosing Postpartum Pemphigoid Gestationis, Rudi Chandra, Irma Damayanti Roesyanto-Mahadi

Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia

Background: Pemphigoid gestationis (PG) is an uncommon autoimmune vesiculobullous skin disorder associated with pregnancy, that occurs during mid-to-late pregnancy and immediate postpartum period. The diagnosis of PG is based on histopathology and direct immunofluorescence. Dermoscopy is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that provides a connection between macroscopic clinical dermatology and microscopic dermatopathology.

Case Illustration: We reported a case of a 22-year-old primigravida woman with postpartum PG. This PG case was diagnosed clinically, dermoscopically, and histopathologically.

Discussion: Since PG is thought to be a variation of the bullous pemphigoid (BP), the two resemble each other clinically and immunologically. The well-defined structures with …

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a malignancy that arises from keratinocytes of the epidermis. Cystic variants of several types of cutaneous neoplasms have been rarely described in the literature. We report a case of biopsy-proven, well-differentiated invasive SCC treated with Mohs surgery. On frozen sections, the pathology slides showed benign-appearing cystic structures in the margins that persisted after it had appeared that the original malignancy had been cleared. After taking another Mohs stage due to clinical suspicion, additional SCC was found and was subsequently cleared after two more Mohs stages. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first …

Multisystem Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis In High-Risk Group: A Case Series Of Two Infants, Anggun Putri Yuniaswan, Putri Rachma Safitri, Diah Prabawati Retnani

Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia

Background: Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) has diverse manifestations, from asymptomatic to aggressive, which involves many organs. Histopathological examination playsa crucialrole as a basic diagnostic standard for LCH. Writing Group of the Histiocyte Society proposes a guideline for diagnosing LCH, divided into presumptive, designated, and definitive diagnosis.

Case Illustration: Two cases of a 14 month-old girl and an 18 month-old girl presented similar clinical manifestation and multi-organ involvement. Dermatological examination revealed red papules and plaques covered by brownish scales and crusts on the scalp and body, erosion in some folds of the body. Histopathological examination of the first case …

Purpuric Lesion In A Patient With Leprosy: Was It A Lucio’S Phenomenon Or An Epiphenomenon?, Sri Linuwih Menaldi, Melani Marissa, Inadia Putri Chairista, Henry W. Lim, Rahadi Rihatmadja

Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia

Background: Lucio’s phenomenon (LP) is a severe necrotizing cutaneous reaction that occurs in patients with Lucio’s leprosy. The exact pathomechanism is not fully understood, but typically abundant acid-fast bacilli in the walls of blood vessels point to direct perturbation of blood supply to the epidermis. We report a case of LP where epidermal necrosis occurred in the absence of vascular invasion by mycobacteria, raising the question whether this was an epiphenomenon or a true LP.

Case Illustration: A 34-year-old male was referred for an episodic swelling of his hands and feet that persisted for two years. There were …

A Rare Case Of Trichilemmal Carcinoma: Histology And Management, Lisa F. Fronek, Allyson Brahs, Maheera Farsi, Richard Miller

West Florida Division GME Research Day 2020

Trichilemmal carcinoma (TC) is a rare, malignant, adnexal neoplasm that is derived from the outer root sheath (ORS) of the hair follicle. These tumors predominantly occur in elderly patients on sun-exposed areas, specifically on the head and neck with the face defined as the most common location. The mean age of diagnosis is 70 years old with a slight male predominance. These lesions are commonly identified as a papular, nodular, and sometimes, exophytic. They generally arise de-novo, but may also derivate from an underlying proliferating trichilemmal cyst with a loss of p53, a seborrheic keratosis, a nevus sebaceous, or a …
