Total Joint Implant Alloy Oxide Layer Cell-Induced Damage, Chandler K. Sears
Total Joint Implant Alloy Oxide Layer Cell-Induced Damage, Chandler K. Sears
Longitudinal Scholar's Project
Cobalt-Chromium alloy is commonly used in total joint arthroplasty (TJA). Several studies have investigated evidence of inflammatory-cell-induced-corrosion (ICIC) causing pitting in TJA retrieved implants. Others have determined that placing orthopedic alloys into lower pH solutions will increase the rate of corrosion. We have determined that electrochemical potential and corrosion rates of human knee synovial fluid show a variation greater than an order of magnitude. This means there is going to be a significant variation between a patient’s local environment of the TJA implant and may affect how macrophages interact with alloy oxide layers. Knee disability can be quantified by using …

The aggregate number of women who have either concluded BC treatment or are undergoing BC treatment totaled approximately 3.8 million women in January 2022 (BreastCancer.org, 2022). Incredible advances have been made in the pharmacological, technological, and surgical treatments of cancer along with a better understanding of the pathophysiology of cancer, but the statistics demonstrate a growing population of individuals with cancer and individuals surviving cancer (Bluethmann, 2016). The coinciding aging of the baby boomer generation results in a population of cancer survivors that demands more supply of services than were previously needed (Bluethmann, 2016). The present size of the population …

The stigma surrounding mental health in sports has made intervention difficult. “There is a need for various actors to provide more effective strategies to overcome the stigma that surrounds mental illness, increase mental health literacy in the athlete/coach community, and address athlete-specific barriers to seeking treatment for mental illness” (Castadelli-Maia et.al 2019). The athletes in the football program at the University of Tennessee face more pressure today than ever in history. They have their class schedule, practice and training every day, and meetings with their position coaches. Now, with the introduction of name, image, and likeness (NIL) allowing players to …

Using Radformation Ezfluence Software To Simplify Three Field Breast Radiation Therapy Planning Compared To Field-In-Field Technique, Brianna L. Woodburn
Masters Projects
Purpose: To evaluate time savings, efficiency, and accuracy of an automated planning software.
Methods: 10 previously treated breast cancer patients with supraclavicular involvement were retrospectively planned using a monosiocentric field-in-field technique by both an automated treatment planning software and a human planner. Time spent on planning was recorded and after plans were generated, dose constraints and target coverage were measured to evaluate overall plan quality.
Results: Time spent for planning was significantly decreased when using a FIF plan generated by the automated planning software. CTV target coverage for both the breast and supraclavicular volumes and dose to OARs for both …

Hubungan Antara Faktor Individu Dan Terjadinya Kelelahan (Fatigue) Pada Pekerja Kantor Di Masa Transisi Pandemi Ke Endemi Covid-19, Maghfira Hernayanti, L. Meily Kurniawidjaja, Nova Amalia Sakina
National Journal of Occupational Health and Safety
The Covid-19 pandemic has changed almost all aspects of human life, including the workforce. The Work from Home (WFH) policy causes irregular working hours. This causes fatigue in workers during the transition from the pandemic to the Covid-19 endemic. Many factors cause work fatigue to occur, one of which is individual factors. This study aims to determine the correlation between individual factors (family social life, sleep quality, sleep quantity, health disorders, psychological, and unhealthy behavior) with the occurrence of fatigue in office workers during the transition from the pandemic to the Covid-19 endemic. Data collection was carried out by disctributing …

Construction industry has a high hazard and high risk to allow work accident. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of individual risk factor and organizational risk factor associated with unsafe behavior or substandard action in construction workers. This study used a cross sectional study design. The instrument used for collecting data and this research conducted in Mei – July 2021 involving 165 workers in the sports center stadium construction project Banten. The result of this research indicate age has a positive effect but not significant against unsafe behavior or substandard action. While education level, work experience …

This study aims to describe the perception of workers on psychosocial factors and to find out the symptoms of occupational stress among the staff. The dependent variables are occupational stress symptoms, while the independent variables are individual characteristics, context to work, and content of work. The research design is cross sectional, using online questionnaire and involving all 51 employees. Univariate analysis is using computer software. Perception of psychosocial factors refers to the average score, 1.00-3.00 is poor and 3.01-5.00 is good. The results showed psychosocial factors in context to work were perceived as poor, namely decision latitude and control (2.92) …

Foundations Of Intramedullary Femoral Shaft Fracture Fixation: Avoidance, Recognition, And Management Of Common Pitfalls, Christopher Kurnik, Jory Wasserburger, William Curtis, Tyler Chavez
Western Journal of Orthopaedics
Intramedullary nailing is an effective treatment of femoral shaft fractures. However, this procedure has several common complications and technical problems that can interfere with full recovery in some patients. The purpose of this review article is to expand on the literature with the authors’ own experiences to summarize the following common complications of femoral nailing: missed injuries, suboptimal surgical timing, malreduction, reaming errors, implant insertion errors, pain-management problems, and implant removal errors. Strategies are also identified to help avoid and manage these complications.

Since 2020, people who use drugs (PWUD) experienced heightened risks related to drug supply disruptions, contamination, overdose, social isolation, and increased stress. This study explored how the lives of PWUD changed in Philadelphia over a one-year period. Using semi-structured interviews with 20 participants in a Housing First, low-barrier medication for opioid use (MOUD) program in Philadelphia, the effects of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic on the daily lives, resources, functioning, substance use, and treatment of PWUD were explored. Interviews were analyzed using a combination of directed and conventional content analysis. Six overarching themes emerged during data analysis: (1) …

A Dosimetric Comparison Using Avoidance Sectors Vs Avoidance Structures For Hip Prostheses In Cancer Patients Receiving Pelvic Irradiation, Grace E. Bowhall
Masters Projects
Purpose
The majority of prostate cancers are detected in men ages 65 and older, resulting in an increased probability that these patients have prosthetic devices. Hip prostheses can pose a challenge when creating a radiation therapy treatment plan for prostate cancer patients. The purpose of this study is to compare two planning techniques that treat the target volume while avoiding irradiation through these prostheses.
Methods
This retrospective study obtained previously treated patient data from the center’s treatment planning system. Patients who were treated for prostate cancer and had one or two hip prostheses were included in this study. Two plans …

Each year over 2 million women are given a breast cancer diagnosis and over half a million women succumb to the disease yearly. As technology advances in the world of radiation oncology, automated planning softwares, such as Radformation’s EZFluence, are being utilized to streamline the treatment planning process. This study was designed to investigate whether the automated plans are dosimetrically equivalent to traditionally planned 3D field in field tangential plans. Is there a disadvantage to using these automated softwares? Three different dosimetrists with varying backgrounds replanned 27 previously treated breast cancer patients and an assortment of comparisons were ran between …
