Objectives Lead exposure causes neurocognitive dysfunction in children, but its association with neurocognition in adults at current occupational exposure levels is uncertain mainly due to the lack of longitudinal studies. In the Study for Promotion of Health in Recycling Lead (NCT02243904), we assessed the two-year responses of neurocognitive function among workers without previous known occupational exposure newly hired at lead recycling plants.

The incidence of Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV)-associated Kaposi Sarcoma has declined precipitously in the present era of effective HIV treatment. However, KSHV-associated lymphoproliferative disorders although rare, have not seen a similar decline. Lymphoma is now a leading cause of death in people living with HIV (PLWH), indicating that the immune reconstitution provided by antiretroviral therapy is not sufficient to fully correct the lymphomagenic immune dysregulation perpetrated by HIV infection. As such, novel insights into the mechanisms of KSHV-mediated pathogenesis in the immune compartment are urgently needed in order to develop novel therapeutics aimed at prevention and treatment of KSHV-associated lymphoproliferations. …

In 1903, the Mt. Carmel Hospital was opened to the public in Pittsburg, Kansas by the Sisters of St. Joseph, of Wichita, Kansas, serving local citizens and miners. The hospital was operated by the Sisters, who performed the cooking, cleaning, nursing, and other tasks while doctors donated their services and time. Throughout the years, many additions were added to the hospital. Though the final expansion was finished in 1951, by 1960 it showed signs of needing its own doctor …

This thesis explores what qualitative objectives adults with developmental disabilities learn and comprehend at a weeklong camp that is meant to enhance interests, abilities, and social skills. The methodology used is Photovoice analysis which allows an individual who either has difficulties verbally expressing themselves or is nonverbal to still participate in question and answer focus groups. For data analysis, my categories relate back to the six domains of recreational therapy: physical, emotional, spiritual, social, cognitive, and leisure.

BACKGROUND: Transcription factors GATAs are involved in plant developmental processes and respond to environmental stresses through binding DNA regulatory regions to regulate their downstream genes. However, little information on the GATA genes in Brassica napus is available. The release of the reference genome of B. napus provides a good opportunity to perform a genome-wide characterization of GATA family genes in rapeseed. RESULTS: In this study, 96 GATA genes randomly distributing on 19 chromosomes were identified in B. napus, which were classified into four subfamilies based on phylogenetic analysis and their domain structures. Background: In utero smoke (IUS) exposure is associated with asthma susceptibility.

Objective: We sought to test the hypothesis that changes in miRNA expression by IUS exposure during human lung development is associated with asthma susceptibility.

Methods: Gene expression was profiled from 53 IUS unexposed and 51 IUS exposed human fetal lung tissues. We tested for the differential expression of miRNAs across post-conception age and by IUS using linear models with covariate adjustment. We tested the IUS-associated miRNAs for association with their gene expression targets using pair-wise inverse correlation. Herein is reported the synthesis of two Au(III) complexes bearing the (R,R)-(–)-2,3-Bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)quinoxaline (R,R-QuinoxP*) or (S,S)-(+)-2,3-Bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)quinoxaline (S,S-QuinoxP*) ligands. By reacting two stoichiometric equivalents of HAuCl₄.3H₂O to one equivalent of the corresponding QuinoxP* ligand, (R,R)-(–)-2,3-Bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)quinoxalinedichlorogold(III) tetrachloroaurates(III) (1) and (S,S)-(+)-2,3-Bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)quinoxalinedichlorogold(III) tetrachloroaurates(III) (2) were formed, respectively, in moderate yields. The structure of (S,S)-(+)-2,3-Bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)quinoxalinedichlorogold(III) tetrachloroaurates(III) (2) was further confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Background: WalkIT Arizona was a 2×2 factorial trial examining the effects of goal type (adaptive versus static) and reinforcement type (immediate versus delayed) to increase moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) among insufficiently active adults. The 12-month intervention combined mobile health (mHealth) technology with behavioral strategies to test scalable population-health approaches to increasing MVPA. Self-reported physical activity provided domain-specific information to help contextualize the intervention effects.

A 10-year-old female presented to the sleep clinic for a second opinion about her epilepsy diagnosis. She had been treated with antiepileptic medication but her events persisted. The child would wake up several times every night speaking nonsense words, appear confused to her family, and then go back to sleep. A video of the polysomnography (PSG) showed the patient having two of her typical events. The patient was eventually diagnosed with confusional arousal (CoA) secondary to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The nocturnal events resolved after her OSA was treated. Treating unfit patients with aggressive B-cell lymphoma poses the dilemma of balancing potential cure while minimizing toxicity because of frailty and comorbidities. Age greater than 80 years and common comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease and poorly controlled diabetes mellitus often preclude the use of full-dose anthracyclines and steroids, the backbones of standard regimens for aggressive B-cell lymphomas. Assessing patient fitness remains subjective, with no consensus on best practice or how to integrate assessment tools into decision making. An adult woman suffered moderate complications of cranio-facial microsomia (CFM) with different severity on both sides of the face. This anomaly leads to short ramal height, condylar pathology, chin deviation and facial asymmetry. The malformed dental arch, open bite and severe canting of the occlusal plane were the reasons for the patient to request the therapy. Orthodontic treatment was performed with pre-adjusted edgewise system assisted by temporal anchorage devices (TADs). These modalities were executed through leveling of the occlusal plane. The improvement was noticed for both better oral function and esthetics.

This case report features a successful combined surgical-orthodontic treatment of a patient with skeletal Class III malocclusion with severe anterior open bite and severe mandibular crowding. Clinical examination revealed concave profile with long-face deformity caused by retrognathic maxilla and excessive vertical growth of mandible, maxillary crowding despite absence of maxillary first premolars, mandibular incisor retroclination, deep curve of Spee, and blocked-out mandibular canines. Purpose: To assess the clinical treatment effectiveness of clear aligners in orthodontic tooth movements.

Methods: The database of Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched from Jan 2015 to Jan 2020. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence assessment tool was used for the methodological quality of included studies.

Purpose and Rationale: To implement a delirium prevention (DP) sleep protocol to at risk intensive care unit (ICU) patients to reduce delirium incidence and duration.

Synthesis of Evidence: A review of one clinical practice guideline, eight systematic reviews and meta-analysis, four randomized controlled trials, nine quasi-experimental trials, and one qualitative study provided evidence that interventions targeted to improve patients’ sleep may decrease delirium incidence and duration in adult patients in the ICU.
