OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of the MUC5B promoter variant rs35705950 in patients with systemic sclerosis-interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) and whether its presence predicts response to immunosuppression with cyclophosphamide (CYC) and mycophenolate (MMF).

METHODS: SSc-ILD patients who participated in Scleroderma Lung Study (SLS) II (MMF versus CYC) were included in this study (N = 142). TaqMan Genotyping Assays were used to determine the MUC5B rs35705950 single nucleotide polymorphism. This paper is a conversation between activist videomaker Alexandra Juhasz and writer and organizer Theodore (ted) Kerr that explores the contemporary role of AIDS activist videos from the past.. Key to the text are ideas around history, technology, time, and community. Together they discuss and enact intergenerational dialogue, what to do with the imperfection of archives, and strategies for shared looking at the history of HIV through epochs. Measuring The Spread Of Covid-19 In Kentucky: Do We Have The Right Data?, Kenneth R. Troske, Paul A. Coomes

We examine various measures of COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations and deaths, with an emphasis on data for Kentucky. We find that: Data on the number of new reported cases of the disease obtained from convenience samples (as opposed to representative random samples) is an inaccurate measure of the spread of the disease in the State. Using CDC data and national studies, it appears that there were ten times the number of infections in March than reported for Kentucky at the time and by September the State is still capturing only one out of two people infected.

Haguruka is a Rwandan NGO founded in 1991 that works to ensure Rwandan women and youth’s access to their legal rights. In addition to providing free legal aid, Haguruka runs educational and capacity building programs across the country to combat gender-based violence (GBV).1 When the Rwandan government instituted lockdown measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in January of 2020, many of Haguruka’s programs were no longer feasible under the new guidelines. Sleep is essential but incompatible with other behaviors, and thus sleep drive competes with other motivations. We previously showed Drosophila males balance sleep and courtship via octopaminergic neurons that act upstream of courtship-regulating P1 neurons (Machado et al., 2017). Here, we show nutrition modulates the sleep-courtship balance and identify sleep-regulatory neurons downstream of P1 neurons. Yeast-deprived males exhibited attenuated female-induced nighttime sleep loss yet normal daytime courtship, which suggests male flies consider nutritional status in deciding whether the potential benefit of pursuing female partners outweighs the cost of losing sleep. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective review of prospective database.

OBJECTIVE: Complication rates for adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery vary widely because there is no accepted system for categorization. Our objective was to identify the impact of complication occurrence, minor-major complication, and Clavien-Dindo complication classification (Cc) on clinical variables and patient-reported outcomes.

METHODS: Complications in surgical ASD patients with complete baseline and 2-year data were considered intraoperatively, perioperatively (<6 >weeks), and postoperatively (>6 weeks). National and international authorities and scientific societies have recently published important cancer treatment recommendations in order to propose extra measures that should be taken during the COVID-19 epidemic. These measures in Radiation Therapy (RT) include, among others, the reduction of the number of cancer patients treated, their respective sessions and the personnel present. For a small private RT department in France and for the period between mid-March and mid-May 2020 these measures resulted in one third less treated patients per week, no new prostate cases and fewer breast and palliative ones, less medical consultations, almost half patient sessions and a …

A 65-year-old Thai woman with underlying essential thrombocythemia (ET) presented with acute psychosis.Hydroxyurea has been used in the patient with ET to reduce the frequency and severity of thromboticcomplications of the disease. Its side effect is anemia which is almost always reversible and will go away afterthe treatment is completed. In this case report, the psychotic symptoms happened with no other specific causes.This novel evidence suggests the possibility of the association between hydroxyurea and anemia.

Major advancements in the hyperacute diagnosis and treatment of stroke have justified our call-to-action slogan of "Time is Brain"-faster therapy leads to superior outcomes. However, this mantra has been recently usurped by the catchphrase "Stay at Home" during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
