Purpose. To evaluate the marginal sealing ability of different restorative materials used in deep margin elevation (DME) on zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate CAD/CAM ceramic restoration. Methods. A total of 30 Class II cavities were prepared in freshly extracted human molars with the proximal gingival margin located 1 mm below the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ). Our previous study has demonstrated that supracrestal gingival connective tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (SG-MSCs) were recognized to be a good candidate for periodontal regeneration. SG-MSCs showed the similar potential to PDL-MSCs and held significant advantage over PDL-MSCs by which a tooth extraction is not required. The purpose of this study was to compare patient-reported outcome measures including post-operative pain, swelling, patient's expectation and satisfaction among 3 techniques of dental implant placement including a) conventional freehand, b) dynamic, and c) static Computer-Aided Implant Surgery. Ninety patients were randomly assigned to receive dental implant placement with one of the 3 protocols. Effect of various concentration of ET-1 on cell viability of primary human periodontal ligament fibroblasts was determined by an MTT assay. Then, primary human periodontal ligament fibroblasts were treated with 10 pM ET-1 for 0.5, 1, 2, 4 hours to investigate the time-course effect. One-piece mini-implants attachment system for overdenture, Osstem MS denture® type implant (OSSTEM, Germany GmbH), and RetenDent mini-implant were tested. All samples were subjected to repeated insertion and removal fatigue cycles by the universal testing machine (E1000, INSTRON Instrument, England). The study groups, ninety heat-polymerized acrylic resins (64×10×2 mm) were divided by three surface treatments: no surface treatment (N), applied MMA for 180 seconds (MM), applied MF-MA for 15 seconds (MF). Adolescent pregnancy is associated with negative health implications, including miscarriage, neonatal and maternal demise, cephalopelvic disproportion, and illness throughout infancy. This qualitative study investigates stakeholder perspectives on the use of electronic health record (EHR) phenotyping to identify and recruit patients for clinical research. Interviews with researchers, institutional review board (IRB) chairs, and primary care physicians explored attitudes toward different approaches for contacting potentially eligible patients. Key themes included trust, privacy, research efficiency, and the impact of recruitment practices on physician–patient relationships. While participants generally viewed both physician-mediated and direct researcher contact as acceptable, many preferred physician involvement to maintain trust and credibility. The study also explored opt-in and opt-out recruitment strategies, revealing divided opinions regarding their appropriateness. The findings highlight …

Introduction: Depression is often an under-recognised feature of Parkinson's disease (PD). It is detrimental to physical and interpersonal functioning, negatively impacting a patient's clinical management, quality of life and well-being. We aimed to identify clinical predictors and management implications of depression in Australian PD patients.

Methods: 103 PD and 81 Healthy Control (HC) subjects were evaluated using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and other validated PD motor and non-motor symptom (NMS) tools.

Results: Nearly twice as many PD patients were depressed, (38.9% vs 20.1%, p = 0.009), with a corresponding increase in depression severity on the BDI (11.9; standard deviation …

Background: Although Motor Neurone Disease (MND) caregivers are most challenged physically and psychologically, there is a paucity of population-based research to investigate the impact of bereavement, unmet needs, range of supports, and their helpfulness as perceived by bereaved MND caregivers.

Methods: An anonymous national population-based cross-sectional postal and online survey of bereavement experiences of family caregivers who lost a relative/friend to MND in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Recruitment was through all MND Associations in Australia.

Results: 393 valid responses were received (31% response rate). Bereaved caregiver deterioration in physical (31%) and mental health (42%) were common. Approximately 40% did not …
