This study aims at detecting antimicrobial resistance properties including extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), AmpC, carbapenemase activities (imipenem, meropenem and ertapenem), and colistin resistance of isolated and serotyped Salmonella spp. strains from various foods (mostly chicken and chicken products) that cause food poisoning. The ISO 6579-3 (Kaufmann-White scheme) method was used for serotyping of Salmonella spp. and for detection of antimicrobial resistance with Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) as reported by EURL-AR. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the impacts of oral usage of activated charcoal and zeolite on serum LPS and acute phase proteins (APPs) levels in lambs with SARA. Biosecurity (BS) is a multidimensional preventive medicine approach that has health, technical, and financial aspects. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences of the BS scores belonging to the livestock enterprises depending on the geographical region and breeding types and to predict the socioeconomic factors having an impact over the BS level. The study was conducted with 517 breeders who live in 7 different regions of Turkey. The results have revealed that the enterprises performing "beef cattle fattening and dairy cattle breeding together" have higher BS scores than the enterprises in the other breeding category (P < 0.01). The differences between the technical and financial scores according to geographical regions were statistically significant (P < 0.01). The regions categorized as "wes" have the highest score and "south" have the lowest score. It was determined that as the "educational level of the breeder" and "enterprise scale" increased, the BS score significantly went up. The regression model was found significant as a whole (P < 0.01) and the independent variables explained the variation in the technical and financial BS scores to be 14.6% and 12.7%, respectively. Dissemination of education/training practices and increasing enterprise scales will positively affect the level of BS in the sector.

Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) remains one of the deadliest malignancies worldwide. One major obstacle to treatment is a lack of effective molecular-targeted therapies. Here, we identify EphA2 receptor tyrosine kinase as a clinically relevant target for HCC. EphA2 expression and signaling is enriched in human HCC and associates with poor prognosis. Loss of EphA2 suppressed the initiation and growth of HCC in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, CRISPR/CAS9 mediated EphA2 inhibition significantly delayed tumor development in a genetically-engineered murine model of HCC. Mechanistically, we discovered that targeting EphA2 simultaneously suppresses both JAK1/STAT3 and AKT signaling, two separate oncogenic pathways in HCC. …

Introduction Clinical practice guidelines based on best available evidence and national safety and quality standards promote high quality and safe care.

Aim To review and standardise systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) forms in a 20-chair cancer centre to reflect Australian and international clinical practice guidelines.

Method A pre–post audit design based on Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (COSA) guidelines for the safe prescribing, dispensing and administration of systemic cancer therapy underpinned the project. The pre-audit (47 forms) provided a benchmark for SACT form improvements: 177 new forms were then developed over 18 months and implemented.

Objective: To describe demographic features and well-being of carers of Aboriginal Australians aged ≥45 years in remote Western Australia.

Method: Carer burden, empowerment, and depression were assessed in 124 Aboriginal carers in four remote Aboriginal communities.

Results: Carers were aged 38.8 ± 15.0 years, 73.4% were female, and 75.8% were children or grandchildren of the person cared for. The mean Zarit-6 score was 3.7 ± 3.6.
