The aim of this study was to monitor some hematological and biochemical blood parameters from prepregnancy to advanced gestation in Angora cats. In the present study, 35 blood samples obtained before and during pregnancy from 7 adult cats were used. Blood was collected from cats before pregnancy and on days 15, 30, 45, and 55 of gestation. The blood samples were analyzed in terms of WBC, RBC, Hb, PCV, MCV, MCH, MCHC, GRA, MON, and LYM values. The Australian dairy industry relies primarily on pasture for its feed supply. However, the variability in rainfall negatively affects plant growth, leading to uncertainty in dryland feed supply, especially during periods of high milk price. New feeding (complementary) systems combining perennial ryegrass with another crop and/or pasture species may have the potential to mitigate this seasonal risk and improve productivity and profitability by providing off-season feed. The obstetric assistance of dystocia in field conditions promotes greater bacterial contamination of the uterus, causing subclinical endometritis. The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence of subclinical endometritis in beef heifers receiving professional calving assistance, and to evaluate endometrial cytology as a diagnostic technique compared to uterine biopsy. A group of 829 Angus heifers were assisted at calving. Dystocia was classified based on difficulty at assistance, which was estimated as complex or simple. The effects of alpha lipoic acid and vitamin C supplementation on TGF \alpha and TGF \beta2 secretion in the testicular tissue of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats were examined by immunohistochemical methods. Rats were divided into 5 groups; group 1 (control), 2 (diabetic control), 3 (diabetes + alpha lipoic acid), 4 (diabetes + vitamin C), and 5 (diabetes + alpha lipoic acid + vitamin C). Incidence And Occurrence Time Of Clinical Mastitis In Holstein Cows, Ismail Boujenane, Jalila El Aimani, Khalid By

The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of clinical mastitis (CM) and its risk factors in 1725 Holstein cows. Data were collected from a private farm from 2008 to 2012. The analysis of risk factors, performed with logistic regression, showed that cows at parity 2, 3, and 4 had 65%, 88%, and 115% risk of mastitis, respectively. This risk was higher (P < 0.001) than in cows at first parity. Cows that calved from October to January had the highest (P < 0.05) risk of mastitis. The number of mastitis cases in cows at lactation 2, 3, and 4 was 18.5%, 25.9%, and 40.7%, respectively, and was higher compared to cows at first lactation. Furthermore, cows that calved from July to September showed the highest number of mastitis cases. Gamma regression parameter estimates showed that the onset time of mastitis 1 and 2 in cows that calved from October to January occurred at 16.3 and 8.5 days, respectively. This was later than cows calving from July to September. The study concluded that it is necessary to examine cows for CM during the first 2 months of lactation in order to prevent mastitis and decrease its rate of incidence.

This study aimed to determine the alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) activity of peripheral blood leukocytes in pregnant, kitten, and adult Angora cats. In each group 9 healthy pregnant, adult, and kitten Angora cats constituted the material of the study. Optimum reaction was achieved after a 3 h incubation period at pH 5.8, by ANAE staining. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sarcomere length and basic composition (water, protein, ash, collagen, and fat content including marbling) of beef muscles with fast-twitch glycolytic (longissimus dorsi muscle) and slow-twitch oxidative fibers (infraspinatus muscle) in Limousin bulls. Samples (n = 15) were obtained from federally inspected slaughter facilities, and animals used in the experiment were treated according to standard ethical norms. Blood samples were collected from 371 goats (Honamli and Hair) reared in Antalya and Burdur. The study investigated effects of dystocia on milk production, reproduction, calf loss, and cow culling in a Turkish Holstein herd at the Agricultural Faculty, Ege University, İzmir, Turkey. Data were from 653 single calvings between 2006 and 2010. Considering a greater dystocia incidence in primiparous cows, data was divided in two; 223 primiparous and 430 multiparous calvings scored on a 1-to-5 scale. In the current study gelatin was recovered from scales of farmed sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax). The first part of the study was planned to determine the yield of acid-soluble collagen and pepsin-soluble collagen from the scales. Both collagens were characterized as type I collagen, containing \alpha-1 and \alpha-2 chains. The Effect Of Oleic And Linoleic Acids On In Vitro Bovineembryonic Development And Embryo Quality, Tahi̇r Karaşahi̇n, Şevket Arikan

The present study was aimed at the investigation of the effects of oleic and linoleic acid on the in vitro development of Anatolian native black crossbred bovine embryos. Following the in vitro maturation and fertilization of oocytes, embryonic development stages were monitored using embryo culture medium supplemented with three different doses of oleic and linoleic acid (10, 100, and 1000 µM). Examination of the culture media 48 h after fertilization demonstrated that linoleic acid had no effect on embryo cleavage rates, while oleic acid produced a significant increase in cleavage rates (P < 0.01). It was determined that the highest dose of linoleic acid (1000 µM) and all three doses of oleic acid significantly increased the proportion of cultured oocytes developing to the morula-blastocyst stage (P < 0.001). As a result, while oleic acid significantly increased (P < 0.001) the proportion of embryos developing to the morula-blastocyst stage, linoleic acid had limited effects on embryonic development and quality. Thus, it was concluded that the supplementation of Anatolian native black crossbred bovine embryo cultures with oleic acid may induce positive effects on embryonic development and quality.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of flunixin (FM) and tenoxicam (TN) on the pharmacokinetics of florfenicol (FF) after coadministration in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced endotoxemic rabbits. Fifteen male rabbits were used in this study. FF (20 mg/kg), FM (2 mg/kg), and TN (1 mg/kg) were coadministered via intravenous injection to the animals. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of hypoxic stresses on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in cultured lung fibroblasts of meat-type chickens. Isolated and subcultured primary lung fibroblasts were exposed to hypoxia. The presence of VEGF and the effects of hypoxia on cultured lung fibroblasts and in the culture media were evaluated. The aim of this study was to compare nutrient content, and in situ protein and organic matter degradation kinetics of Prangos ferulacea (L.) (locally called helis), a naturally growing plant on the top of Mount Artos, with those of alfalfa. P. ferulacea plants used in the study were collected from three different parts of Mount Artos in Van Province over two years. While organic matter content and in vitro organic matter digestibility of P. ferulacea were significantly higher, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, and acid detergent insoluble nitrogen contents were significantly lower compared with those of alfalfa (P < 0.01). In general, in situ dry matter, and organic matter and crude protein degradability of P. ferulacea were significantly higher compared with those of alfalfa starting from 6 h of incubation (P < 0.05). Organic matter and crude protein degradability of P. ferulacea was 79.15% and 85.31%, respectively, after 48 h of incubation. The objective of the present study was to assess the presence of Listeria monocytogenes and to investigate its serotyping and antibiotic resistance in ready-to-eat (RTE) foods. A total of 100 RTE foods, including 25 stuffed mussels, 25 ezme samples (a Turkish-style tomato dip/condiment), 25 fried spiced livers, and 25 mayonnaise-based salads were obtained from retail shops and supermarkets in Samsun, Turkey. Rabies is a fatal infection of the central nervous system produced by a Lyssavirus of the family Rhabdoviridae. The virus is distributed worldwide and is primarily transmitted by rabid animal bites, with multiple reservoirs depending on the region. The vampire bat Desmodus rotundus is distributed in several states of Mexico and is considered the main vector of rabies in cattle. In the state of Baja California, no cases of paralytic rabies have been reported. The aim of this study was to determine temperature differences on the dorsal surface of 32 clinically healthy show jumping horses. Temperature was measured using a Thermovision 550 (FLIR) camera, determining maximum temperature (T_{max}). The horse?s body was divided into the following regions: neck, withers, cranial back, caudal back, loins, and hindquarters. Those regions were subdivided into middle, left, and right parts. Statistical methods used for calculations consisted of Wilcoxon?s signed rank test and Dunn?s post hoc comparison test. The purposes of this study were to report the types, causes, and clinical findings of esophageal obstructions in water buffaloes and to verify the role of radiography in diagnosis as well as the evaluation of the proposed treatment management and outcome after treatment. Forty-four buffaloes with esophageal obstruction were used in the study. Esophageal obstruction was significantly more frequent in females than males. The article reviews published data on two novel coproducts originating from corn milling: high-protein distillers' grain (HPDG) and reduced-fat distillers' grain (RFDG). Based on a literature survey over the last decade, this article focuses on their chemical composition and, consequently, nutritive value and on the effects of their inclusion in ruminants' diets on rumen activity and animal performance. Compared to the classic distillers' grains, the two new coproducts expressed lower variability of their chemical composition, nutritive value, and specific feeding characteristics, allowing more targeted feeding strategies (protein balancing, avoidance of milk fat depression, etc.). The aims of study were to reveal the changes in genetic diversity in reproduction selection of sheep. Genetic polymorphisms of microsatellite GC101 locus and its linkage with the FecB gene were detected in Chinese local sheep (Small Tail Han and Hu sheep) and western sheep (Texel and Dorset) breeds. There was the same FecB mutation (A746G) in both Small Tail Han and Hu sheep as that in Booroola Merino ewes, but not in Texel and Dorset sheep. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of inactive Rhodococcus equi vaccine candidates included that bacterin+aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)3), bacterin+VapA+(Al(OH)3), bacterin+Montanide IMS 3012 (IMS), bacterin+VapA+IMS, and live vaccine using mice as a model. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of Flavobacterium psychrophilum and to examine the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of enrofloxacin (ENR), doxycycline (DOX), and florfenicol (FFC) treatment in rainbow trout fry (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum) against F. Psychrophilum. A total of 220 naturally infected rainbow trout fry were examined and 26 bacterial isolates were phenotypically and genotypically identified. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of ENR, DOX, and FFC were determined. ENR was the most active, with an MIC for 90% of the isolates (MIC90) of 4 µg/mL. Twenty-four male lambs (24.93 ± 0.93 kg) were used in order to evaluate the effects of chromium methionine (Cr) supplementation in high-energy finishing diets on the carcass characteristics and chemical composition of the longissimus muscle (LM). Treatments were 0.00, 0.60, 1.20, and 1.80 mg Cr/lamb daily. The experiment lasted 56 days. There were no effects of treatments on dry matter intake, feed to gain ratio, and final weight, which averaged 35.24 ± 1.01 kg. Supplemental Cr linearly decreased fat thickness enough to improve the estimated yield grade from 1.82 to 1.42 with no effect on the other carcass traits measured. …
