Establishment And Biological Research Of The Jining Grey Goat Fibroblast Line, Chunyu Bai, Dianjun Wang, Xiaohua Su, Minghai Zhang, Weijun Guan, Yuehui Ma

Using Jining Grey goat ear marginal tissues as experimental materials, we succeeded in establishing a fibroblast cell bank, including 32 samples, by means of a primary explant and cryopreservation technique. The results from the biological analysis suggested that the population doubling time of the cell line was approximately 48 h. The diploid accounted for 98.35%, the isozyme analysis of the lactic dehydrogenase and malic dehydrogenase disproved cross contamination, and the results of the bacterium, fungi, virus, and mycoplasma detection tests were all negative. Twenty worm-free male West African dwarf (WAD) goats, 7-8 months of age, were used to study the effect of dietary protein on their response to mixed infections of trychostrongyles. The goats were divided into 4 groups (A-D), each containing 5 animals. This study aimed to investigate the histopathological changes that occurred in the wound of the sole ulcer located on the hooves of dairy cattle. A total of 12 Holstein-Frisian dairy cows suffering from sole ulcer were studied. Sole ulcers in the lateral hoof of the left or right foot of hind legs containing the corium and a part of the epidermis were collected and examined histopathologically. There were subacute inflammatory changes in the superficial dermal vessels. Prevalence And Patterns Of Antimicrobial Resistant Of Fecal Escherichia Coli Isolates Among Pigs On Eight Farrow-To-Finish Farms And Their Production Environments In Shandong Province, China, Hongchao Zhou, Lin Liu, Zhaofang Tian, Wenjuan Zhang

The main objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance patterns of Escherichia coli isolates in feces of pigs and their production environments on farms. A total of 560 isolates of Escherichia coli, from 112 samples obtained from weaner and finisher pigs, feed, water, and house sparrows on 8 farrow-to-finish farms, were tested for susceptibility to 16 antimicrobials. The prevalence of resistance varied widely (0.0% to 69.5%) among the antimicrobials tested. From the tested swines, 75.75% of the isolates were resistant to one or more antimicrobials. Resistance was significantly more frequent (P = 0.005, P < 0.01) in swine isolates compared to those from feed, water, and sparrows and significantly more frequent (P = 0.007, P < 0.01) in weaner pigs compared to finisher pigs. The findings indicate that resistance to a broad range of antimicrobials was prevalent among fecal E. coli isolates of swine on the study farms. Fortunately, E. coli was not isolated from the feed, water, and house sparrows.

First Record Of Abnormal Pigmentation In A Wild Common Sole, Solea Solea L., From The Aegean Sea, Okan Akyol, Hali̇l Şen

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

On 2 June 2010, an abnormally pigmented specimen of Solea solea L. with a total length of 222 mm was obtained near Tuzla, from the İzmir Bay of the Aegean Sea. This is the first record of abnormal pigmentation in the wild common sole from the Aegean Sea. The specimen fish is patterned with both hypermelanosis on the blind side and hypomelanosis on the ocular side. This kind of malpigmentation in any flatfish is not typical.

This case report aims to highlight the utility of the jaundice foal agglutination (JFA) test used in the prevention of neonatal foal death caused by equine neonatal isoerythrolysis. The colostrum and the serum of a Friesian mare with repeated neonatal foal deaths and the whole blood of her newborn foal were tested for 5 days with the JFA test to detect a probable incompatibility. In Pakistan, a scant number of Bengal tigers (Panthera tigris tigris) are being kept at various zoos or in certain wildlife sanctuaries, and there is a dearth of literature regarding the effect of captivity on their physiological parameters. The present study was hence conducted to determine and compare the hematological alterations in tigers of Bengal origin (Panthera tigris tigris) kept in captivity at Lahore Zoo (LZ) (n = 4) and in the seminatural environment of Lahore Wildlife Park (LWP) (n = 6), Pakistan. The results reflect a significantly higher (P < 0.05) total leucocyte count and platelet count and a lower packed cell volume in animals kept at LWP as compared to those of animals kept at LZ. No other significant differences in hematology were noted for the 2 captive forms. Despite the limitation of sample size in the present study, it was concluded that captivity has a significant effect on various hematological parameters in Bengal tigers. These baseline data will lay a foundation in the therapeutic evaluation and physical monitoring of tigers kept in various forms of captivity not only in Pakistan, but also in other countries such as India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, as well.

The purpose of the present study was to determine the live weight development phases from hatchling to adolescent bird of Japanese quails bred in Kyrgyzstan, and to determine the age-related changes in body measurements. Adolescent birds were found to have a body length (distance between first vertebra thoracalis to end of sacrum) coefficient of 3.0, a sternum front to rear end length coefficient of 3.3, a tibia length of 2.34, and a pelvic width (distance between right and left acetabulum) coefficient of 1.58. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome and complications of the pocket technique in the repositioning of the prolapsed third eyelid gland in dogs. From 28 dogs, 38 eyes with protrusion of the third eyelid gland were treated using the pocket technique. Of the dogs, 22 (79%) were less than 1 year of age when the prolapse was first noted by the owner. Protrusion of the glands in both eyes was found in 10 of the dogs (36%). To assess the efficacy of selective anthelmintics against ecto- and endoparasites of Black Bengal goats and their treatment effects on body-weight gains and hematobiochemical indices, a field trial was conducted at Pahartali Thana in Chittagong district. The study was performed during the period of February 2006 to January 2007. The purposes of this study were to determine, using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), the clostridial toxins in intestinal samples of lambs with suspected enterotoxemia; to conduct molecular typing of C. perfringens isolates; and to investigate the presence of the genes of 4 major toxins (\alpha, \beta, \epsilon, and \iota) in the isolates by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The present study was conducted to determine the presence of enterotoxin and verotoxin levels in Turkish cheeses sold in retail stores in İstanbul, Turkey. For this purpose, 150 cheese samples (25 pieces of each: white pickled cheese, tulum cheese, mihaliç cheese, hellim cheese, örgü cheese, and civil cheese) were analyzed microbiologically for Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and E. coli O157:H7, and the presence of the toxins was identified using an ELISA test (RIDASCREEN® Set A, B, C, D, E and Verotoxin). The aim of the present study was to elucidate the potential role of humoral factors of innate immunity in broilers infected with Eimeria tenella under the influence of inorganic and organic Se cations. It was found that the chickens treated with Sel-Plex® had higher serum lysozyme concentrations compared to those treated with sodium selenite in infected and noninfected groups. The authors consider that Sel-Plex® has a better expressed immunostimulating effect on serum lysozyme concentrations than sodium selenite.

Acrylamide (AA), used in many fields, from industrial manufacturing to laboratory work, is also formed during the heating process through the interactions of amino acids. Therefore, AA poses a significant risk for both human and animal health. This study aimed to elucidate whether N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) treatment could modulate AA-induced oxidative changes in the brain, lung, liver, kidney, and testes tissues of the rat. The objective of this study was to investigate the pregnancy rate following artificial insemination (AI) or natural service (NS) in postpartum estrous synchronized beef cattle. A total of 85 Brangus cows, postpartum, were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 consisted of 35 cows and was further subdivided into 7 groups, each consisted of 5 cows that were naturally mated. The aim of this study was to identify ectoparasites of wild roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) living in natural areas of Samsun Province that were wounded by car accidents or hunters between 2007 and 2010. A total of 90 ticks, 60 lice, and 5 deer keds were collected from 17 animals. Five tick species (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus bursa, Rhipicephalus turanicus, Haemaphysalis punctata, and Haemaphysalis concinna), 1 louse species (Cervicola meyeri), and 1 deer ked species (Lipoptena cervi) were identified. Cervicola meyeri and L. cervi were identified for the first time in Turkey.

Laparoscopic Paraovarian Cyst Removal In A Female Rhesus Macaque, Vijay Kumar, Anshu Raj, Sameer Rastogi

A 15-year-old female rhesus macaque was showing signs of bleeding from the vulva, while no other signs were noted. The animal was treated symptomatically with no improvement. On abdominal laparoscopy, a small transparent growth was discovered on both of the uterine horns, between the ovaries and fallopian tubes, and after thorough examination was diagnosed as a paraovarian cyst. The left cyst was larger (5-6 cm) than the right cyst (3-4 cm). Both of the cysts were smooth and transparent due to accumulated fluid. The cysts were aspirated and removed by bipolar laparoscopy cauterization.

In Palestine, as in other countries, brucellosis is an endemic disease, even in highly vaccinated zones. Many reports suggest that a decline in vaccine productivity may be due to antigenic shifts in the circulating Brucella melitensis. To address this aspect, the hemagglutinin gene from B. melitensis field isolates was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), sequenced, digested with the EcoRV and HaeIII, and compared to the Rev.1 strain of the B. melitensis vaccine. The main function of the sinus node is to provide the electrical impulse responsible for normal cardiac rhythm. The rhythmic coordination depends on the passage of the excitation wave by the heart through its conductive system of impulse. There is considerable variability in the size and exact location of the sinus node of individual hearts even within the same species. Histological features of the sinus node including the cells, the nodal artery, the collagen framework, and the innervation, and also some physiological characteristics of the node, will be discussed.

Neuronal and extraneuronal lipofuscinosis was determined in Merino sheep (6 sheep and 3 heads of sheep) of 2-3 years old that had grazed on Asphodelus aestivus seeds. Clinically, the sheep exhibited tremors, paresis, oral and nasal discharge, and severe respiratory distress. Haemorrhagic necrotic tracheitis, aspiration pneumonia, and subacute enteritis were observed in 6 sheep during macroscopic examinations. The brains of the animals were of firm consistency and yellowish brown in colour. Histological examination of the central nervous system revealed that most of the cytoplasm of neurons contained yellowish brown pigment granules.
