Feline lower urinary tract diseases (FLUTD) is a diagnostic term for cats with hematuria, dysuria, pollakiuria, and partial or complete urethral obstruction. The aim of the present study was to identify risk factors for cats with LUTD. Cats with LUTD were evaluated by history, physical examination, urinalysis, radiography, and contrast radiography. Clinically normal cats consisted of vaccinated cats without clinical signs of LUTD admitted to the same veterinary hospital. Cats with a history of urinary tract disease, and those received special treatment for LUTD were excluded. Effects Of Semen Extender On Motility And Movement Patterns Of Frozen-Thawed Eld’S Deer (Cervus Eldii) Spermatozoa, Sukumal Rittem, Daraka Thongthainun, Wanlaya Tipkantha, Boripat Siriaroonrat, Nikorn Thongtip

Two semen samples of Siamese Eld,s deer (Cervus eldii siamensis: SED) and seven semen samples of Thamin Eld,s deer (Cervus eldii thamin: TED) were collected by using electroejaculation. Each ejaculate was diluted and cryopreserved with 2 extenders; 1) TRIS; and 2) modified BF5F supplemented with 5% final glycerol concentration. The movement patterns of frozen-thawed spermatozoa were assessed using computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA). In TED, the results revealed a significantly higher (p< 0.05) percentage of total motility (%TM), percentage of progressive motility (%PM), track speed (VCL) and lateral amplitude (ALH) in TRIS extender. The results also revealed a significantly low (p< 0.05) progressive velocity (VSL), straightness (STR) and linearity (LIN) in TRIS extender. However, for path velocity (VAP) and beat frequency (BCF), there were no differences between both extenders. In SED, sperm motility and sperm movement parameters did not show differences between TRIS and modified BF5F extenders. Findings from this study will aid in Eld’s deer semen banking and artificial insemination success in the future.

We introduce an automated, pathological class level annotation system for medical volumetric brain images. While much of the earlier work has mainly focused on annotating regions of interest in medical images, our system does not require annotated region level training data nor assumes perfect segmentation results for the regions of interest; the time and effort needed for acquiring training data are hence significantly reduced. This capability of handling high-dimensional noisy data, however, poses additional technical challenges, since statistical estimation of models for such data is prone to over-fitting. The loaded step-up exercise allows strength and conditioning practitioners to incorporate a unilateral resistance for athletes while performing extension at the hip, knee, and plantar flexion at the ankle. This study evaluated the activation of the biceps femoris (BF), gluteus maximus (GMx), gluteus medius (GMe), rectus femoris, semitendinosus (ST), vastus lateralis, and vastus medialis during 4 variations of the step-up exercise to assess the specific muscle training stimulus of each exercise variation. Organic anion transporting polypeptides (OATPs) have been extensively recognized as key determinants of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) of various drugs, xenobiotics and toxins. Putative N-glycosylation sites located in the extracellular loops 2 and 5 is considered a common feature of all OATPs and some members have been demonstrated to be glycosylated proteins. Background: The objective of this study is to determine if facial soft tissue measurements using digital calipers can be reliably taken by the same examiner and by a large group of examiners.

Materials and Methods: Ten examiners performed a set of 18 in-clinic measurements on 10 female and 10 male dental students using a digital caliper twice over a 3-week period. The intra-class correlation coefficient and the Shrout-Fleiss method were used for the statistical analysis.

Results: Anthropometric intra-examiner reliability was high for all measurements (none fell below R = 0.934). However, inter-examiner reliability exhibited a wide range of values, some …

Phaeohyphomycosis is an infection caused by pigment-producing saprophytic fungi. Systemic infections may occur in the immunocompromised patient. Infection in healthy individuals may result in subcutaneous abscess formation. Oral lesions appear to be rare. A case of intraoral phaeohyphomycosis presenting as a well-demarcated, painful nodule of the anterior hard palate in a 12-year-old healthy male is described. The mass was excised and the diagnosis was established following histopathologic examination of the tissue.

The analysis of public health surveillance data to identify departures from historical patterns of disease is required to facilitate the timely identification of potential outbreaks. Using the Box-Jenkins forecasting model, this study examines the potential to predict future disease burden based upon the historical record within local public health jurisdictions. The current study seeks to examine the program operations and treatment practices of individuals and organizations providing equine-assisted therapy services nationwide. Currently, there are several hundred programs across the United States that utilize equine-assisted therapy to treat common mental health problems in children, adolescents, and adults. Not all equine therapy programs function under the same theoretical model and therefore do not deliver treatment services using equivalent principles or techniques. In addition, program policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines of each provider vary. Cancer cells evade senescence, apoptosis, and other constraints on proliferation, often via mutation of the p53 tumor suppressor gene (TP53). Normal human lung fibroblasts have been shown to enter premature senescence upon exposure to beryllium. In these cells, BeSO₄ stabilizes p53 protein, increases p21 gene expression, induces senescence-associated β-galactosidase activity and causes cell proliferation arrest. In the present study, we have investigated whether BeSO₄ is able to induce similar effects in cancer cells that have wildtype p53. This project investigates the influence of lactation on female sociosexuality and mate preferences in urban Manila, a population with long-term breastfeeding, low contraceptive use, and quick return to ovulatory cycling. Physiological and evolutionary considerations suggest that lactating women face important life history allocation trade-offs between mating and parenting effort that may be manifest in their sociosexual behavior and mate preferences. Breastfeeding (n=155) and control (n=105) women were recruited to provide a saliva sample (for testosterone and estradiol analyses), complete a questionnaire, and complete a face and voice preference task to determine preferences for masculinity. This study compares the timeliness of Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR) with traditional reporting. ELR has been implemented in parts of the United States, and is perceived to be faster than traditional reporting. Faster reporting leads to faster public health response to prevent outbreaks, and to reduce the burden of infectious disease in communities. Nevada State law requires that diseases be reported within certain time frames. Timeliness of laboratory reporting at the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) from 1999-2012 was assessed by analyzing cases of four common diseases in this retrospective secondary analysis of extant data.
