Radiographic techniques were applied to a human simulation pelvis phantom with evaluations of the resultant image analyzed by a designated radiologist. Results indicate that a lower patient dose is received when coupled with an increase in the tube voltage. Images analyzed demonstrated little noise variation between images, which indicates the ability to lower patient dose while maintaining quality images.

Materials : One hundred and fifty-eight stool specimens from hill-tribe children, aged 1-18 years old. Objective : The biological roles of Wolbachia, a filarial intracellular bacteria, have promoted applied researches in lymphatic filariasis. Analysis of Wolbachia proteins will provide complementary information on the biology of Wolbachia, as well as the immune mechanisms against filarial nematodes. We therefore developed a Wolbachia isolation method from Dirofilaria immitis (dog heartworm) for protein analysis. Methods : Wolbachia bacteria were homogenized and isolated by fractioned centrifugation by using 0.85% NaCl supplemented with varying concentration of Nonidet P-40 (NP-40) as the homogenization buffer. Objective : Dirofilariasis or heartworm disease, a mosquito-borne parasitic disease, continues to be a serious problem in canine (dogs) and feline (cats) species. The disease is caused mainly by the filarial nematode, Dirofilaria immitis. In canine dirofilariasis, the adult worms, present in the pulmonary arteries and the right ventricle, causing damages and leading to pulmonary hypertension and right-sided congestive heart failure. In addition, acute death in feline dirofilariasis causes lung injury resulting in respiratory distress. Diethylcarbamazine (DEC) treatment for lymphatic filariasis can be accompanied by adverse drug reactions. Severe adverse reactions are usually uncommon but once happen, they could be acute and sometimes life-threatening. We report here a case of 15-year-old patient who was treated with DEC and developed severe adverse reactions including fever, headache, dizziness, chest pain, sore throat, cough, dyspnea, nausea and vomiting. A complete profile of clinical findings and blood parameters, including parasitological, hematological, biochemical, and immunological parameters was reported. During the early stage of death, estimation of PMI of the corpses depends on the changing of muscle contraction and physical conditions, but this method can be used effectively in case of death within 24 hours. Patients are usually recommended to keep these drugs in the refrigerator while dispensing. However, the temperature in the refrigerator is not consistent especially the refrigerator's door has higher temperature than other parts.

OBJECTIVES: To establish the credibility of manual reticulocyte counts without compromising the quality of care, and to evaluate the degree of acceptability of manual reticulocyte counts in terms of accuracy and cost effectiveness in comparison with two automated haematology analyzers.

METHODS: Visual reticulocyte enumeration was evaluated for comparability, within-batch precision and costing with respect to Coulter STKS and Gen S haematology analyzers.

The aim of this study was to observe the histological features of chronic gastritis and associated effects due to Helicobacter pylori infection in 176 randomly selected antral biopsy specimens of chronic gastritis cases. The specimens were reviewed for the presence or absence of H.pylori. The activity (neutrophilic infiltration) of gastritis and the presence or absence of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) were also noted. Chi-square test (Pearson value) was used to analyze categorical variables. H.pylori was detected in 110 (62.5%) cases of chronic gastritis. MS4a4B, a CD20 homologue in T cells, is a novel member of the MS4A gene family in mice. The MS4A family includes CD20, FcεRIβ, HTm4 and at least 26 novel members that are characterized by their structural features: with four membrane-spanning domains, two extracellular domains and two cytoplasmic regions. CD20, FcεRIβ and HTm4 have been found to function in B cells, mast cells and hematopoietic cells respectively. However, little is known about the function of MS4a4B in T cell regulation. Objective: This 3-year field experiment engaged 60 nurses and 282 patients in the design and evaluation of an innovative home-care nursing model, referred to as technology-enhanced practice (TEP).

Methods: Nurses using TEP augmented the usual care with a web-based resource (HeartCareII) that provided patients with self-management information, self-monitoring tools, and messaging services.

Results: Patients exposed to TEP demonstrated better quality of life and self-management of chronic heart disease during the first 4 weeks, and were no more likely than patients in usual care to make unplanned visits to a clinician or hospital. The complex [Ru(bpy)z(NO)(N02)](PF6)2 was investigated as a potential anti­ tumor drug option. The nitrosyl group was displaced by reaction with azide ion in acetone to yield the solvento complex in situ. The products isolated from addition of a solution or slurry of guanine, adenine, cytosine or thiamine to the resulting [Ru(bpy)(N02)(acetone)t were investigated by electronic absorption spectroscopy, infra­ 1 red spectroscopy, H NMR spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The results of the studies showed that guanine, adenine and thiamine form adducts with Ru(bpy)z(N02)(acetone)t. However, each base forms a unique complex as shown by electronic spectroscopy. We demonstrate quantitative functional imaging using image-guided near-infrared spectroscopy (IG-NIRS) implemented with the boundary element method (BEM) for reconstructing 3-D optical property estimates in breast tissue in vivo. A multimodality MRI-NIR system was used to collect measurements of light reflectance from breast tissue. The BEM was used to model light propagation in 3-D based only on surface discretization in order to reconstruct quantitative values of total hemoglobin (HbT), oxygen saturation, water, and scatter. While guidelines and tools exist, the development of praxis can be an intricate process. This article describes the development, deployment and evaluation of an RN to BSN hybrid course focused on patient-centered care and quality. Strategies and evaluation methods will be outlined and consideration of the efficacy of using a hybrid instructional design will be discussed.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common form of leukemia in the United States. There has been considerable progress in understanding the biology and treatment of CLL in last 20 years. The introduction of purine analogs (pentostatin, fludarabine, and cladribine) dramatically increased the response rates compared to alkylating agents. Combination chemoimmunotherapy has further improved the overall frequency of response to over 80% in treatment-naïve and over 60% in relapsed/ refractory disease, respectively.

RECENT FINDINGS: A potentially serious disorder, sleep apnea can lead to many systemic and ocular complications. Recent findings provide data on the prevalence of sleep apnea with various disorders.
