Immediate provisionalization of single implants with standard (3.75 - 4.5 mm) and wide diameter (> 4.5 mm) has been well documented. When the space is limited, small diameter implants (3.0 mm) must be used. Although high success rates have been reported, they were limited to healed site and were placed as staged procedures. The purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate the success rate and peri-implant tissue response of small diameter (3.0 mm) implants undergoing immediate provisionalization in the esthetic area.

This decline has been observed in up to 80% of patients early after surgery, and in up to 30% of patients after six months. The purpose of this project was to study the antibacterial effect of the short exposure of 5.25% NaOCl and 17% EDTA on eight strains of Enterococcus faecalis in extracted human teeth. The crowns of 240 single rooted teeth were removed and the canals were instrumented to ISO 0.36. The canals were irrigated with 5.25% NaOCl and 17% EDTA, autoclaved and separated into eight groups of 30 teeth consisting of 20 experimental teeth, 5 positive and 5 negative controls. Forty intact mandibular single canal canines or premolars were selected for standardized size and quality, endodontically treated, and decoronated to the cementoenamel junction. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the amount of force required to fracture or dislodge the veneered facings from three veneered lower primary molar stainless steel crowns (SSC) and to characterize the veneer failures.

METHODS: The following veneered crowns were used in this study: NuSmile crowns, Kinder Krowns, and EC crowns. Twenty lower right primary first molar crowns were used from each manufacturer, for a total of 60 crowns. All crowns were cemented with glass ionomer cement to a custom fabricated die. By the day before birth, the density of nerve fibers in the cervix has increased compared to earlier in pregnancy or in nonpregnant mice. Similar findings are reported in parturient women. To test the hypothesis that connections between the cervix and spinal cord are enhanced by term, the cervix of nonpregnant and time-dated pregnant mice (day 15 or 18 post-breeding) was injected with pseudorabies virus (PRV), a trans-synaptic retrograde neural tract tracer. This research examined attributions for health care mistreatment, related emotions, and the role of cultural beliefs about health care professionals as determinants of cancer-related continuity of care among Anglo and Latino women in Southern California. This research was guided by Betancourt’s model of culture adapted for the study of health behavior (Betancourt & Flynn, 2008) and Weiner’s (1996) attribution theory of motivation and emotion. HPV 16, a causative agent of cervical cancer and of some cases of oropharyngeal cancers, is one example. We have reported that the early viral protein E6 binds to proteins necessary for propagation of the apoptotic signal following receptor/ligand interactions, such as those mediated by FADD DED and procaspase 8 DED. E6 expression leads to the dose-dependent accelerated degradation of FADD and the protection of E6-expressing cells from Fas-induced apoptosis. Exposure to solar particle events (SPEs) poses the most serious threat to astronaut health. Due to this radiation environment, exploration of the solar system beyond Earth’s orbit entails many risks for the crew on these deep space missions. Depression or dysfunction of the immune system is a major concern due to its high radio-sensitivity; potential consequences include overwhelming infection, development of cancer, fibrosis, and poor wound healing. Astronauts are also exposed to low dose/low dose rate (LDR) radiation. A three month stay at the international space station exposes them to ~ 0.05 Gy of radiation.

Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) is an important tool in evaluating the patency of vessels which have previously been stented. Neuroform stents (Boston Scientific, Natick, MA, U.S.A.) are utilized to provide a scaffold across the neck of an aneurysm. These stents are synthesized from Nitinol (nickel and titanium) and thus cause minimal distortion upon imaging with MRA. Patients who have undergone Neuroform stent assisted coiling of aneurysms are routinely followed with MRA to delineate stenosis of the stented segment of vessel as well as recurrence of the aneurysms. Epidural anesthesia is a procedure which is well tolerated and has a low incidence of adverse events. In performing caesarean sections, regional anesthesia (spinal or epidural) is the preferred modality for anesthetic delivery. Although rare with continuous epidural anesthesia, epidural hematomas have been reported to occur with an incidence between 1:150,000 and 1:190,00010. An underlying bleeding diathesis has been implicated as a causative factor. We present the sixth reported case of hemorrhage into an occult intradural neoplasm after spinal or epidural anesthesia. Similar lesions have not been reported in the recent spine literature.

We report the case of a 60 year-old right-handed gentleman who became acutely “Locked-In” several days after a lower extremity orthopedic procedure. He underwent emergent endovascular treatment and had complete resolution of his neurologic findings except for mild dysarthria and dysphagia. Endovascular intervention for posterior circulation thrombosis is highly effective when patients are treated within 24 hours.

This study investigated the effectiveness of improving performance of adolescents with the in-season Bigger Faster Stronger (BFS) program. Thirty seven high school athletes were divided into three groups; BFS (n=l4 ), traditional weight training (n= l0), and control (n= 13 ). Each participant went through a battery of seven performance pre-tests and post-tests ( estimated 1 ORM incline bench, broad jump, one minute sit-up test, t-test, line drill, 40 yard sprint, 1.5 mile run). Primary care physicians (PCPs) provide diabetes care for 82% of patients with type 2 diabetes (1). Many patients with type 2 diabetes will eventually need insulin. The UKPDS (2) showed that ß-cell failure is progressive. From 50% of normal ß-cell function present at diagnosis, there is a steady decline with almost complete loss of ß-cell mass within 10-15 years, even earlier in some patients. On average, as many as 40-80% of patients with type 2 diabetes will need insulin within 10 years after diagnosis (1,2).
