Objective To determine the effects of two different coupling agents and storage times on transverse strength of acrylic resin with glass fiber reinforcement. Materials and methods Eighty test specimens (2x2x25 mm) made of chemically activated acrylic resin were divided into four groups: (A) no fibers; (B) non-impregnated glass fibers; (C) silane impregnated glass fibers and (D) titanate impregnated glass fibers. Bottle-Using Behaviors In A Group Of Bangkok Preschool Children, Keswadee Subsandee, Supaporn Chongvisal, Napaporn Kittitavornkul, Nantajit Wangprasertkul

Objective To study the bottle-using behaviors in a group of preschool children in Bangkok, Thailand. Materials and methods The sample consisted of 970 preschool children aged 1-6 years old from one kindergarten in Bangkok. Parents/caregivers completed self-administered questionnaires including information related to demographic data, the childrenûs bottle using or weaning status and the parentsû attitudes towards bottle using. Results Out of 824 questionnaires returned (85%), 605 were valid (73.4%). Results showed that 58.2% (352/605) of children (age 2.6 ± 0.9 years) still used a feeding-bottle while 41.8% (253/605) already weaned from bottle (age 4.2 ± 1.2 years). The mean age …

Objectives The objectives of this research are to cross-culturally adapt the Professional Role Orientation Inventory for Thai dentists and to evaluate the equivalence between the original and Thai versions. Materials and methods Cross-cultural adaptation of the Professional Role Orientation Inventory was performed according to an international guideline including the following steps: forward translation, reconciliation, back-translation, expert panel review, and pilot testing with a group of 13 dentists. Results The cross-cultural adaptation procedure revealed no major problems. Findings of panel review suggested that the original and Thai versions were semantically, conceptually, and culturally equivalent. Results of pilot test demonstrated clarity and …

Objective To develop zinc oxide calcium sulfate based temporary filling material with less disintegration in water. Materials and methods Four formulas of temporary filling materials were prepared by altering the ratio of calcium sulfate and zinc oxide. Cavit was used as a control group. Twenty specimens from each group were tested to find the mean percentage of disintegration in each group. One-way ANOVA and Bonferroni multiple comparison were used to analyze data. Objective To study the compressive strength and flexural strength of self-adhesive resin cements and compare to those of conventional resin cement Materials and methods Compressive and flexural strengths of three self-etching resin cements [Rely X U100 (3M ESPE), Maxcem (Kerr), Multilink sprint (Ivoclar vivadent)] were determined and compared to those of conventional resin cement [Variolink II (Ivoclar vivadent)], using ISO 9917/2003 and ISO 4049/2000 regimens. The data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA at p = 0.05. Results Mean compressive strengths of all cements were between 213.42 ± 3.74 and 278.82 ± 30.96 MPa. Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of calcium hydroxide combined with chlorhexidine or stannous fluoride in disinfecting the Candida albicans infected human root canal in vitro. Material and Methods Antifungal effect of reagents was examined by using agar-diffusion test and counting colony forming unit of C. albicans existed in the root canal after 7 days intracanal medication. Acid-base changing of chemical agents was also examined. Objective The purpose of this study was to compare antimicrobial effect of 500 and 1000 ppm fluoride dentifrices that distributed in Thailand. Materials and methods Streptococcus mutans (ATCC 25175), Streptococcus sobrinus (OMZ 176a) and Lactobacillus casei (IFO 3533) were involved in this study. Objective To investigate the antimicrobial activity of aluminium chloride against Streptococcus mutans and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, in vitro. Materials and methods An inhibitory activity was determined by using broth dilution technique and time kill method. S. mutans and A. actinomycetemcomitans were grown in tryptic soy broth and brain heart infusion, respectively. Both organisms were treated with different concentrations of aluminium chloride [0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5% (w/v)] at 37 ÌC, 5% CO2 for 0.5, 3, 6, 9, 18 and 24 hours. Objective To investigate the effect of acemannan isolated from Aloe vera gel on the steady level of dentinsialophosphoprotein (DSPP) and dentin matrix protein 1 (DMP 1) mRNAs in primary human pulpal cells. Materials and methods Cells were treated with the designated concentrations of acemannan (0.25, 0.5 and 1 mg/ml) for 24 hours. Objective To investigate the effects of dental radiation on the expression of apoptotic-related genes in primary human bone cells. Materials and methods Human bone cells were grown in 15% FBS-DMEM and irradiated with 0, 1, 2 doses of a periapical radiograph. The cytotoxicity of irradiation was investigated by MTT assay after 24 hours. The levels of apoptotic-related gene expressions, Bcl-2, Bax, Bad, Bcl-xL, caspase-3 were analyzed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, four hours after irradiation. Objective To compare microtensile bond strength at enamel or dentin-resin interface of self-etch resin cements. Material and methods Enamel or dentin surface of human third molars were flattened using a highspeed diamond bur. Objective The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the leakage of roots filled with Epiphany® and Resilon® after final irrigation with 2% chlorhexidine. Materials and methods Seventy single-rooted teeth were prepared using crown down technique and divided to three experimental groups of twenty samples each and positive and negative control groups of five samples each. Objective To compare the antibacterial effect of the erbium, chromium: yttrium-scandium-galliumgarnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser irradiation with two irrigating solutions in root canals of extracted human teeth. Materials and methods One hundred and twenty-five extracted single-rooted teeth were collected. The canals were then enlarged with K files to size 50 using crown-down technique and randomly assigned into four experimental groups of 30 teeth each and five teeth for sterility control group. Objective To evaluate the effect of different polishing instruments on the surface roughness of a nanofilled resin composite. Materials and methods Resin composite, Filtek Z350®, was condensed in an 5x4x2 mm3 block covered with a Mylar strip and then was polymerized with a curing unit for 40 seconds. One hundred and twenty specimens were randomly divided into six groups equally. The first group was a control. Materials and methods An imported product was studied as a comparative model. Then, synthesis an alternative design of which prefabricated objects was assembled into a mechanical tool. Work simplification design philosophy comprising of reducing components, and custom made parts resulted tominimizing production cost. Objective Sporicidal activity is a good indicator for testing the efficacy of chemical disinfectants in infection control. We tested the sporicidal effect of common germicides used in Thailand. Materials and methods The spore-forming bacteria Bacillus atropheas and Geobacillus stearothermophilus were chosen to test four commercial chemical agents: sodium hypochlorite, 2% glutaraldehyde, 35% hydrogen peroxide, and iodophore. Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella typhi were also used to ensure compliance with EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and AOAC (Association of Analytical Communities) laboratory standards for hospital disinfectants. Objectives To study the response including cell proliferation and cell attachment of human bone marrow stromal cells to collagen and osteopontin in vitro. Materials and methods The study was performed by co-culturing human bone marrow stromal cells with bovine dermal collagen and recombinant rat osteopontin. MTT assay was utilized to determine the cell proliferation and cytotoxicity resulted from the cells being exposed to four conditioned surfaces, uncoated, collagen-coated, osteopontin-coated and mixed collagen/osteopontin-coated.
