Many diagnostic imaging techniques are available to aid clinicians, including transcranial radiography, conventional tomography, computed tomography, arthrography, single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical findings and MRI features of temporomandibunlar joint (TMJ) disorders. The clinical histories of 251 patients (502 joints) with MR images were evaluated. The aim of the present study was to determine where injuries due to violence mostly occur and to find differences (if present) among where the assaults places in 334 patients who sustained injuries due to reasons other than accidents, randomly selected from the medical records and files of those referred to the Department of Traumatology of the Council of Forensic Medicine between 1 January and 31 December 1998 in İstanbul. Caudate hemorrhage is a rare stroke syndrome that accounts for only 3-7% of all primary intracerebral hematomas. In this study, we evaluated eight patients with isolated caudate nucleus hemorrhage for their clinical presentation and neurological findings. Material and methods: Eight patients, who were admitted to our department with isolated caudate nucleus hemorrhage, were evaluated for their clinical presentation and present risk factor findings on neurological examination and prognosis. Cast alloys used in dentistry come into close and prolonged contact with the gingiva and the oral mucosa, and certain alloys have been claimed to cause inflammation of gingival and periodontal tissues. However, only little information is available on the molecules mediating the mechanism of such an effect. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of PAF antagonist BN52021 on systemic and renal oxidative stress in experimentally induced obstructive jaundice. A total of 30 Wistar-Albino type rats used in the study were divided into sham, control and study groups, each consisting of ten subjects. Purpose: The aim this study was to investigate the effects of different suture techniques on the healing of abdominal wall wound. Materials and Methods: 24 male Wistar albino rats were included in this study. The rats were divided into two groups. A 4 cm midline laparatomy was performed after ketamine HCl anesthesia. In Group I, the incision was sutured with 4/0 polypropylene interruptedly and in Group II, the wound was closed with 4/0 polypropylene continuously. Aims: Rates of certain histopathologic features were evaluated in hepatitis C and in hepatitis B materials and analyzed statistically in a Turkish population. Method: The presence of lymphoid aggregate, steatosis, ductal lesions, sinusoidal inflammation and portal iron deposition were investigated in 80 hepatitis C and 104 hepatitis B specimens and evaluated using the chi-square test and Fisher's exact test. Pan Band T cell markers were used for lymphoid aggregate analysis. P53 and PCNA were applied for the possible impact of steatosis on cell biology. Results: All mentioned parameters excluding sinusoidal inflammation were found to be higher in hepatitis C samples. …

In this study, the STR system HumF13B polymorphism and forensic efficiency values were investigated in a population sample from the Çukurova region. The F13B phenotypes were analysed using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) following a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and were visualised by silver staining. Allele frequencies were calculated by the gene counting method. Forensic efficiency values were estimated using the obtained gene frequencies of F13B. In this population sample, a total of five alleles, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 of F13B, were observed. The thalamus is one of the most vulnerable areas for intracerebral hemorrhages. In this study, we investigated the parameters of thalamic hemorrhage such as risk factors, initial complaints, neurologic findings and the prognostic effects of the presence or absence of ventricular penetration, as well as the volume and size of hematoma. A total of 57 patients with thalamic hemorrhage, whose diagnosis was confirmed by cranial computerized tomography, were evaluated. This prospective randomized clinical study was designed to assess and compare the effects of normothermic and hypothermic nonpulsative cardiopulmonary bypass in patients with mitral valve replacement. Forty patients undergoing elective mitral valve replacement were randomly divided into two groups according to the temperature of perfusion. Group N (15 patients) underwent normothermic cardiopulmonary perfusion and Group H (25 patients) underwent hypothermic cardiopulmonary perfusion. A prospective, observational study was carried out to assess the efficacy of Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone (LLETZ) as an outpatient procedure during the first visit of patients with abnormal cervical smears. One hundred and seven women were treated with LLETZ under local anaesthesia as an outpatient procedure at their first visit. All patients were followed up routinely with colposcopy, cytology, and also histology where appropriate for at least 6 months. Objective: To evaluate the serum triglyceride and lipoprotein-cholesterol levels in subjects with and without luteal phase defect. Method: Early follicular and midluteal phase serum triglycerides, lipoprotein-cholesterol and progesterone levels were assessed in 19 subjects with and in 73 subjects without luteal phase defect. The criterion for diagnosis of luteal phase defect was histological development of endometrium delayed for more than 2 days according to the chronological day. Selecting the individually suitable form of and location for the major connectors in partially edentulous patients is important. The purpose of classifying removable partial dentures (RPDs) is to simplify identification. Classification also allows for a longitudinal comparison of various classes of RPDs as well as the determination of whether the teaching of RPD design is consistent with the relative frequencies of RPD use. Carbonic anhydrase is the basic enzyme in inhalation function. Untill now no research had been done to determine whether CA is in the human erythrocyte plasma membrane or not. Carbonic anhydrase (CA) was purified from human erythrocyte plasma membrane and described in this study. For this purpose, the blood samples taken from young human test subjects were hemolyzed, then the membrane fraction was separated, and this fraction was repeatedly washed. Colicins are bactericidal macromolecules in protein structures and they are produced by some strains of Escherichia coli and Shigella, which are members of the Enterobacteriaceae. They have a bactericidal effect on the same species or closely related bacteria, but have no effect on the strains which produce them. Antifungal activity was determined by the tube dilution method on different extracts of Symphytum sylvaticum Boiss. subsp. sepulcrale (Boiss. & Bal.) Greuter & Burdet var. sepulcrale. The antifungal activity of the isolated compound from the root alkaloid fraction (Echimidine-N-Oxide) was also tested against ten fungal cultures. The activity was found to be mainly due to Echimidine-N-Oxide (ENO). The quantitative determination of ENO was also carried out with capillary gas chromatography in the roots and the aerial parts of the plant.

Histamine is a biogenic amine widely distributed in the central nervous system that acts in a neuroregulatory role in controlling the waking state. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of apoptosis in chronic hepatitis B, and correlate it with disease severity. We studied the expression of the Fas antigen (FasAg) and Bcl-2 protein in a group of patients with chronic hepatitis B at various stages of the disease. Four liver biopsy specimens taken from the patients with chronic hepatitis B infection and five control liver tissue specimens with normal histology were studied.
