The dosing of combination therapies is commonly undertaken empirically by practicing physicians, and there is a lack of a coherent algorithm to approach the problem of combination dosing. Current methods of evaluating multiple drug combinations in clinical trials generally do not provide information regarding the location of more effective dosages when the combination is not found to differ from the standard, even though the absence of a difference does not necessarily mean the new combination is ineffective. This thesis is a comparative study of variables affecting differentiation and proliferation of progenitor cells from various embryonic and fetal tissue sites as they differentiate into mast cells. Embryonic stem cells from gestation day 4.5 (d4.5) differentiated exclusively into mast cells when cultured in semi-solid media with stem cell factor (SCF) and Interleukin-3 (IL-3). The same was true of d8-1 1 yolk sac cells and d8-1 1 cells from the embryo itself. However, culture with SCF and IL-3 of cells from dl4 fetal livers differentiated into mast cells, cells of the erythrocyte lineage and a few "macrophages" which may have …

We display a poblational and transversal cohort study with 402 male and female patients of 55 years old or than oldness, from Santa Lucía Maracaibo City Parroquial. Neuropsychologic essays were performs for recent memory evaluation; as a result we obtain two groups: with recent memory disturb and recent memory normal. Weight (kg), tall (m), body mass index (w/t2) and fortituos blood pressure with Dynamap Critikon were performs too. All patients were evaluated with an automatic engine for ambulatory blood pressure monitorization during vigil and sleep hours.

Depuis 1997, QInc a réalisé plusieurs recherches expérimentales visant à optimiser l’entretien des planchers dans le but ultime de réduire le nombre de lésions professionnelles causées par les chutes sur les planchers glissants. La particularité de la présente étude est d’aborder la problématique de la glissance des planchers qui sont peu susceptibles d’être contaminés par la matière grasse, par exemple les corridors et les salles des centres hospitaliers et des écoles.

En effet, il semble reconnu que ces outils peuvent causer différentes atteintes du système neuro-musculo-squelettique tels le syndrome des vibrations ou le syndrome du canal carpien. Cette étude, initialement réalisée en novembre 1998 a été remise à jour en 2001 afin de soutenir le sous-comité CSST-MSSS sur l’intoxication professionnelle au plomb et d’y intégrer les données les plus récentes. Elle vise à fournir à ce comité des informations dépersonnalisées sur l’exposition professionnelle des travailleurs québécois au plomb dans les établissements pour lesquels des prélèvements ont été réalisés par les intervenants en santé au travail en faisant ressortir les situations où les plus fortes concentrations sont retrouvées. La période totale couvre huit années de calendrier, soit de 1993 à 2000.

Tous les secteurs sont concernés : fabrication, forage, transport, bâtiment, manufacturier, etc. L'utilisation de dispositifs absorbants acoustiques constitue un moyen de réduire ces niveaux de bruit. Parmi ces dispositifs, on distingue les systèmes passifs dissipatifs qui consistent à placer un matériau absorbant sur le trajet de l'onde à absorber. Cette étude porte sur le développement de protocoles pour l’évaluation des appareils à lecture directe (ALD) visant la détermination des expositions professionnelles aux monomères et aux oligomères d’isocyanates contenus dans les bases commerciales couramment utilisées en entreprises. En partant de différentes bases commerciales de prépolymères de diisocyanate de diphénylméthane (PMDI), les produits sont générés en laboratoire dans une chambre permettant de les nébuliser en aérosol liquide sous une atmosphère contrôlée. Un échantillonnage en parallèle des ALD avec deux méthodes de laboratoire validées est effectué afin d'évaluer la performance et la limitation de ces appareils.

In rats, long daily wheel access produces an escalation to excessive levels of running while short daily access results in low stable levels of running. paralleling patterns of cocaine- taking (Lattanzio et al., 2000). Experiment I explored the effects of previous running experience (Phase l) on fixture running and feeding (Phase ll). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect that the McDavid Ankle Guard™ (McDavid Knee Guard Inc., Chicago, Illinois) and the Active Ankle Trainer™ (Active Ankle Systems Inc., Louisville, Kentucky) had on the dynamic postural stability of recreational athletes and what differences existed between males and females on stability. It was hypothesized that wearing an ankle orthosis would improve postural stability and the Active Ankle Trainer™ would be superior to the McDavid Ankle Guard™ and the control (no brace). The purpose of the study was to investigate the gait characteristics in young females while carrying five different weights of backpack. It was hypothesized that the gait patterns would be changed and the magnitude of the changes would rise with increasing load level.

Subjects were 24 girls aged 9-11 years. The backpacks weighed 0, 2.1, 4.1, 6.1 and 8.1 kg. The study utilized a Motion Analysis System. A force plate was fixed in the middle of the test site. The proportional duration model is used to explain one invariant feature of generalized motor programs, relative timing. This model states that although the overall duration of a movement will change based on how fast or slow it is performed, the relative timing, across movement components remains the same (Gentner, 1987). An innovative qualitative methodology of "thematic analysis" was developed to describe the early relationship development process of non-directive play therapy. Through the analysis of individual and focus group meetings, six themes and hundreds of categories emerged which together describe the early process of play therapy and examine how these themes, separately and together, might facilitate the relationship development process. The themes identified are: description, qualities, goals, therapeutic support, process and indicators of growth. There is very limited information available on the effects of gymnastics skills on spinal hyperextension. Eleven young female gymnasts between the ages of 11 and 15 participated in this study. The subjects height and weight were taken then they were screened for musculoskeletal injuries, normal abdominal and back extensor strength, normal hip flexor and hamstring flexibility, spondylolisthesis, and scoliosis. Hyperextension of the spinal column was measured during normal standing, hyperextending the spine in standing, and during four different gymnastics skills, using the Peak5 motion analysis system. A large number of patients do not follow medical advice for reasons generally unclear to the health care provider. Significant morbidity and mortality can be outcomes of noncompliance. The purpose of this naturalistic inquiry was to study and clarify from the patient's perspective, issues identified as influencing the ability to comply with provider recommendations. Data collection and analysis occurred simultaneously as a fluid process of organizing and synthesizing qualitative material into categories or themes that emerged to illuminate a phenomenon. A concept of an ecosystem approach to human health improvement in Sub-Saharan Africa is presented here. Three factors mainly affect the physical condition of the human body: the abiotic environment, vector-transmitted diseases, and natural resources. Our concept relies on ecological principles embedded in a social context and identifies three sets of subsystems for study and management: human disease subsystems, natural resource subsystems, and decision-support subsystems. To control human diseases and to secure food from resource subsystems including livestock or crops, integrated preventive approaches are preferred over exclusively curative and sectorial approaches. The home represents a relatively new arena for practice for most service providers, especially those working with families of persons with dementia. This article describes four key factors to consider when working with caregivers of persons with dementia in their homes. Objective: To complete the data on the demographic features of patients diagnosed to have aplastic anemia at a single institution over a 7.5 years period. Methods: Demographic information was retrieved from the patients medical records retrospectively as well as prospectively of those patients who presented with features of aplastic anaemia. Their diagnosis was confirmed by performing a complete blood count and bone marrow trephine.

We describe case of a 40 year old male, who went on to developed systemic amyloidosis 3 years after the diagnosis of chronic renal failure. The diagnosis of systemic amyloidosis was suspected upon a routine examination of periheral blood film showing features of hyposlenism. We would like to highlight the importance of examination of pheripheral blood film in patients with renal failure for the diagnosis of extensive systemic amyloidosis which occasionally leads to functional hyposplenism, recognized by the presence of abnormal red cell morphology and reduced splenic uptake on isotope scan¹.

This investigation examined the conditional day-to-day relationship between alcohol use and workplace absenteeism among participants (N = 302) employed full-time in one of three large companies located in the northeastern U.S. Semi-structured interviews were used to gather information from employees on their daily use of alcohol and other drugs during a 1-month period. Employees' absenteeism and work injury data during the same target time period were gathered from personnel files residing in the companies' human resources departments.
