The veterinary curriculum includes an anesthesia and surgery course that utilizes live animal laboratories and euthanasia, potentially causing stress in students. We used a validated psychology questionnaire to assess their stress levels, confirming that live animal laboratories induce significant stress. Forty-two fourth year veterinary students, including individuals who identified as male, female, and LGBTQ, and who held religious beliefs in Buddhism and Islam, volunteered to participate in the study. The study had received ethical approval from the Human Research Ethics Committee at Prince of Songkla University. After series of stress questionnaires before and after Veterinary surgery and anaesthesia class, female …

In this study, it was aimed to perform an anatomical, histological, and immunohistochemical investigation of the intestines of the lynx. After performing macro-anatomical measurements of the tissues obtained from the small and large intestines of the lynx which was brought to the Kafkas University Veterinary Faculty Clinics and Wild Life Preservation and Rehabilitation Center for treatment but could not be saved despite all interventions, the routine histological procedure was followed. Triple staining was applied to examine the general histological structure of intestinal tissues, and PAS staining was applied for identifying goblet cells. Somatostatin distribution was examined immunohistochemically. The lengths and …

Antimicrobial agents are a cause of the increase in antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) bacteria. We investigated the prevalence and characteristics of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria in captive wild animals before and after exposure to antimicrobial agents. Sixty-six fecal samples were collected from captive animals (spotted deer, Rusa deer, geese, chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs) at the Mahasarakham University Mini Zoo in Thailand on three sampling occasions: October 2021, January 2022, and April 2022. Using MacConkey agar supplemented with cefotaxime, ESBL-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-Ec) was isolated and subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility tests and genetic analysis. The results showed a high prevalence of ESBL-Ec …

Protective Immunity Of The Pore-Forming Domains Of Actinobacillus Pleuropneumoniae Apx Toxins In A Mouse Model, Kamonpun Chuekwon, Li-Ting Cheng, Chun-Yen Chu
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
The hemolytic/leukolytic toxins ApxI, II, and III play a central role in the pathogenicity of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and may serve as effective vaccine antigens. However, since these toxins are large in size, we aimed to determine whether only the pore-forming domain of the toxins may be sufficient for protective immunity. Mice were vaccinated with the pore-forming domains for immune response analysis and challenge test. Significant antibody response was observed for the ApxI and II vaccine groups. For cellular immune response, CD4+ and CD8+ T cell expansion was observed for ApxI. Pro-inflammatory cytokine (IL-1b, IL-6) and TH2-type …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Transmissible viral proventriculitis (TVP) is an infectious disease-causing retarded growth in chickens. In Thailand, many stunted chickens have been found on commercial broiler farms since 2017. Significant post-mortem lesions are found only in the proventriculus. This study aims to investigate the causative agents of TVP outbreaks focusing on chicken proventricular necrosis virus (CPNV), the possible significant cause of TVP. CPNV was reproduced in specific pathogen-free (SPF) chickens. Affected chickens that have undergone proventriculitis are CPNV-positive by RT-PCR and nucleotide sequencing followed by phylogenetic analysis. The result showed that proventriculitis could be experimentally reproduced by inoculation of proventricular homogenate obtained from …
