The impact of housing environment and strain on welfare and behavior of laying hens was the focus of this study. Lohmann LSL Classic (W) and Lohmann Sandy (S) were assessed under deep litter without outdoor access (DL), deep litter with access to outdoor pens covered with either Mentha piperita (MP), Petroselinum crispum (PC) or Medicago sativa (MS). Duration of tonic immobility, feather condition, footpad dermatitis, and temperatures (comb, breast region, footpad surface, and rectal) were determined at 31, 42, and 52 weeks of age. Hen`s behaviors were observed at 32, 42, and 52 weeks of age. Blood parameters were assessed …

The aim of the study was to determine the effects of various environmental factors on milk yield and milk components in Simmental cows. In the present study, 33,813 milk yield records from 1631 cows and milk samples from 233 cows were used for milk component analysis. Lactation milk yield (LMY) and 305-day yield (305-DMY) were the milk yield characteristics studied. Environmental factors considered for milk yield characteristics included province, calving year, calving month, parity, age, and lactation length. Milk components analyzed were fat percentage (FP), protein percentage (PP), lactose percentage (LP), somatic cell count (Log10SCC), and dry matter (DM). Environmental …

Determination Of Antibiotic Resistance In Salmonella Typhimurium And Salmonella Kentucky Serotypes Of Animal Origin Using Conventional And Molecular Methods, Zeynep Şik, Mehmet Akan
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The high incidence of multidrug-resistant Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Kentucky isolates is a concern for human and animal health. This study aimed to investigate the antibiotic resistance determinants of a total of 150 S. Typhimurium and S. Kentucky isolates obtained from cows, calves, lambs, and poultry. Salmonella isolates were tested against 13 different antimicrobials using the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method, and genotypic antimicrobial resistance determinants were investigated by polymerase chain reaction. Significant differences were detected among serovars for gentamicin, streptomycin, ampicillin, sulfonamide, nalidixic acid, ciprofloxacin, and tetracycline resistance, with the rates of resistance to these antibiotics being determined to be …

Mammary gland infections occur due to bacterial changes in the mammary tissue. Studies conducted in recent years have reported variations in the most common bacteria differ according to geographical locations. California mastitis test (CMT), somatic cell count (SCC), and aerobic colony count (ACC) analyses were performed on approximately 50 mL of hygienically collected raw milk samples. Raw milk was also subjected to conventional bacteriological isolation and identification. Bacterial diversity and rates in raw milk were compared through metagenome analysis. Two samples, one from healthy milk and another from subclinical milk with mastitis, were independently tested to determine whether there were …

The Effect Of Artificial Insemination Catheters Covered With Protective Sheaths On Conception Rates In Heifers, Berrak Işık Soytürk, Hüseyin Erdem
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Artificial insemination is a biotechnological method widely practiced in cattle, first introduced in 1912. The present study investigated the effect of pierceable plastic sheaths used during artificial insemination of Holstein heifers on conception rates. A total of 110 heifers aged 15–18 months, detected to be in estrus based on observation, were included in the study. These heifers were randomly divided into two equal groups. The experimental group (n = 55) underwent insemination using an insemination catheter covered with a disposable, pierceable plastic sheath on day 0. Conversely, the control group (n = 55) underwent insemination using the standard conventional technique. …

The treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS) does not cure the disease, but it is intended to reduce the intensity, duration, and frequency of symptoms. Rehabilitation therapy (RT), including an individualized physical therapy program (PTP) and adapted occupational therapy (OT), has benefits in terms of aerobic capacity, muscle strength, coordination, and ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL). The primary objective of this study was to examine the efficacy of RT comprising PTP, OT, and drug treatment (DT) versus DT alone in patients with MS. Another objective was to highlight the importance of continuing the PT and OT at home, …

The study is aimed to determine the relationship between the delivery and breastfeeding history of the patients andthe clinicopathological properties of breast cancer.Materials and methods: A questionnaire was utilized for the study, which included the age of diagnosis, the number of children at thetime of diagnosis, the age of the children, and the breastfeeding period of each child. Results: The study included 828 patients. The median age at diagnosis was 47 years for parous women and 42 years for nonparouswomen (p < 0.001). The tumor size of the patients diagnosed within the breastfeeding period was significantly larger compared to theother patients. Estrogen and progesterone receptor positivity were lower in patients diagnosed during breastfeeding. Additionally, themean number of positive lymph nodes, dissected lymph nodes, and positive lymph node/dissected lymph node ratio in parous andbreastfed patients with a nonmetastatic disease were statistically significantly higher in multivariable analysis than those patients whowere nulliparous and have not breastfed. Conclusion: Breast cancer is seen at a later age in patients who are parous than those who have never given birth. Patients who areparous and have breastfed tend to present with a higher stage of the disease.

The Right Ventricle Outflow Tract Systolic Function Could Predict The Severity Of The Cirrhosis, İbrahim Dönmez, Güray Can, Emrah Acar
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
The distinctive liver framework is converted into structurally abnormal nodules as a consequence of tissue fibrosis in cirrhosis. Cardiac dysfunction in cirrhosis was described, and the term “cirrhotic cardiomyopathy (CCM)” was coined to describe this syndrome. Recent research has shown that the contractile characteristics of the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) have a significant impact on right ventricular functions. The right ventricular outflow tract-systolic excursion is an important systolic function marker of RVOT (RVOT-SE). There has yet to be published research on RVOT function in cirrhotic patients. We looked at the relationship between cirrhosis severity and the RVOT-SE.Materials and methods: …

Chemical biological radiological nuclear threats are at an important point in the agenda of world health today, as theycan cause mass deaths. B. mallei attracts attention as a potential biological warfare agent due to its features such as multidrug resistance,a rapid transmission mechanism via aerosol, the absence of a complete treatment protocol for the infection it causes, and the absence ofan approved vaccine for protection against the bacteria. B. mallei suspect samples must be studied by experienced personnel in biosafetylevel III laboratories. B mallei is a difficult and troublesome pathogen to diagnose and many unknowns about B. mallei today. Therefore, the …

The aim of this study is to evaluate the baseline F18-FDG PET/CT findings of individuals diagnosed with giant cellarteritis (GCA) and to explore its association with clinical findings and classification criteria.Materials and methods: We analysed data from patients who underwent F18-FDG PET/CT scans to investigate large vessel (LV)involvement between 2010 and 2019. Only patients with a clinical diagnosis of GCA and at least 6 months of follow-up were included. We compared initial clinical features and laboratory findings based on the presence of LV vasculitis on PET/CT and the maximumstandard uptake value (SUVmax) of vascular territories. Results: Twenty-nine patients (median age at diagnosis: …
