In a tropical environment, sow productivity is strongly associated with boar sperm production. Regular monitoring of semen quality in boars that produce semen for artificial insemination is important. The objective of the present study was to investigate the boar sperm production in an evaporative cooling system in a tropical environment in association with breed and season. A total of 2878 ejaculates from 68 boars were collected from a boar stud in the western region of Thailand. The breeds consisted of 22 Duroc, 22 Yorkshire, 18 Landrace and six hybrid boars. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of oil palm frond (OPF) inclusion in total mixed ration (TMR) diets on nutrient digestibility, fermentation pattern, blood biochemical level and inflammatory response in nulliparous dairy goats. Three nulliparous female dairy goats (Saanen x Thai native, 33.88±1.78 kg) were randomly assigned in a 3x3 Latin square design. The diets consisted of 0% OPF (CON), 20% OPF (LOPF) and 40% OPF (HOPF) on a dry matter (DM) basis. The inclusion of OPF in the diets significantly increased the DM and nutrient intake of the dairy goats (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in the digestibility of DM, organic matter and crude protein of LOPF and HOPF, (p>0.05) but those were significantly higher …

A total of 292 E. coli isolates obtained from fecal samples from pigs in Central (n = 103) and Northeastern (n = 189) provinces of Thailand were included in this study. Eighty-six E. coli isolates were phenotypically confirmed to be β- lactamases producers and screened for the presence of β-lactamase genes. The CTX-M family was most frequently identified (90.7%). The blaCTX-M-15 gene belonging to CTX-M group I (59.3%) was the most predominantly identified CTX-M genotype followed by blaCTX-M-14 (31.4%) and blaCTX-M-4 (25.6%). External fixation is commonly used to treat long bone fractures in goats. It provides good enough stabilization on fractures to improve healing, minimizes soft tissue injury and only causes mild obstruction of the blood supply around the wounds. A one-year-old, spayed female Welsh Corgi dog referred to the dental and oral clinic with chief complaint of apparent pitted, rough teeth surfaces, stained a tan to dark brown color. The dog was diagnosed with diffused enamel hypoplasia with no evidence of endodontic disease or malformation of tooth root. A restorative procedure with nanohybrid composite resin was performed. After treatment, the dog showed a good outcome with a smooth tooth surface, restorative material replaced to cover the previous defect and no evidence of pain or discomfort. A 4-year-old male Labrador retriever dog presented with a history of conjunctivitis OU and mild buphthalmos OS for one week. Ophthalmic examination revealed corneal edema, conjunctivitis, iritis, aqueous flare, posterior synechia, fibrin on the anterior lens capsule, increased intraocular pressure (IOP =30 mmHg OD; IOP = 48 mmHg OS), weak positive menace response, brisk positive dazzle reflex and negative pupillary light reflex OU. The pharmacokinetics of our previous prepared oxfendazole nanosuspension was studied in sheep to understand its enhancement of bioavailability. Ten sheep were randomly divided into two groups, each of which received a singledose (5mg/kg) oral oxfendazole nanosuspension and oxfendazole granules. After intragastric administration, oxfendazole rapidly reached peak concentrations of 11.25 μg/mL and 5.50 µg/mL at 5.6 h and 6.6 h in the nanosuspension group and granules group and the concentrations gradually reduced to below the detection limit at 96 h and 72h, respectively. Escherichia coli is a primary reservoir of antimicrobial resistance, known chiefly for the container of AMR-encoding genes (ARGs), and poses potential risks to human and animal health. This study investigated AMR phenotypes and ARGs in 90 E. coli isolates from different pig groups in 10 farms in southern Vietnam. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 19 common antimicrobial agents was determined, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to investigate seven ARGs (blaTEM, aadA1, strA, dfrA12, sul3, cmlA and tetA). Sesame seeds are used in many traditional Japanese foods for their flavor and taste but commercial sesame can be highly contaminated with bacteria. We therefore examined the bacterial populations, including Bacillus spp., Enterobacteriaceae bacteria and standard plate count bacteria in sesame samples purchased from markets in Japan. A total of 8 sesame samples were tested, of which 4 (50.0%) harbored 4.3–5.6 log cfu/g standard plate count and 2.7–4.3 log cfu/g Enterobacteriaceae bacilli. The paw pads, which can produce moderate changes that are reflected in mechanical and grounding characteristics, play an important role for domestic cats in realizing their biological characteristics. The purpose of this study was to investigate these moderate changes of paw pads in various gaits i.e. walking, trotting and emergency stop gaits based on the ground reaction forces and contact strain experiments to obtain the mechanical and grounding shape representations. Canine vector-borne blood parasites (CVBP) cause various diseases in dogs. The aim of this study was to survey canine blood parasites in the plain regions of Cambodia. The study was conducted from November 2014 to September 2015. A total of 455 blood samples were collected from rural and urban areas in the plain regions of Cambodia. Patterns of use of anti-parasitic agents (APAs) on animals presented for veterinary care at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Nsukka, Nigeria, from January 2013 to December 2017 were surveyed. Animals presented were predominantly dogs (84.0%) and goats (8.1%). A total of 4851 cases were evaluated, out of which 3196 (65.9%) were treated with APAs. There was a significant variation (p=0.002) in the annual frequency of use of APAs across the study period, but the effect size of the variation was small (ɸc=0.06). This study aimed at investigating the nasal colonization of pigs and farm attendants by S. aureus and MRSA in Kebbi, North-Western Nigeria. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Kebbi Northwestern Nigeria using simple random sampling. The development of drug resistance and enrichment of resistant genes not only cause misery from bacterial diseases but also pose a threat to public health security. There may be lack of knowledge in nicotine toxicity and second-hand smoke (SHS) effects, as well as the opinion of pets’ care among Thai veterinarians (vets). To examine knowledge, opinion of nicotine toxicity and SHS effects on dogs and cats’ health in Thai vets. A cross-sectional survey was applied. Data were collected using the self-reported questionnaire. Cronbach's alpha for the knowledge and opinion questionnaire was 0.90 and 0.94, respectively. Brucellosis, caused by a facultative intracellular bacterium, induces great economic loss in the livestock economy worldwide. In this study, the abortion problem in an Anatolian water buffalo herd was investigated by pathological, bacteriological and serological means. An aborted fetus as well as blood and milk samples from 4 buffalo cows with abortion history were studied. The thoracic and abdominal cavities of the aborted fetus were filled with serohemorrhagic fluid, and abomasum had yellowish brown fluid containing fibrous material in it. The aim of this study was to assess the occurrence of GI parasitic infections among goats in Ratchaburi province of Thailand. In this study, fecal samples (394) were collected and tested by means of the floatation, sedimentation and direct smear methods to discriminate eggs or oocyst of the parasites. The present study aimed to survey the prevalence of microbial isolates in the uterus of sub-fertile Arabian mares and to identify their existing antimicrobial sensitivities. In addition, to evaluate the efficacy of antimicrobial therapy based on the fertility outcomes determined by sonographic pregnancy diagnosis. Double guarded uterine swabs were collected from (barren) Arabian mares during mid-estrus.
