Small-scale commercial chicken farming represents an important source of income to rural households in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. A wide range of vaccines are currently administered to flocks, but is not based on empirical knowledge on pathogen circulation. We collected serum samples and vaccination data from a random sample of 267 small-scale native chicken flocks in Dong Thap to determine serological profiles by ELISA against 8 pathogens: Avian Influenza (AI), Chicken Anaemia virus (CAV), Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) virus, Infectious Bronchitis virus (IBV), Newcastle Disease virus (NDV), O. rhinotracheale (ORT), P. multocida (PM) and M. gallisepticum (MG). The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of the recombinant herpes virus of turkey-Newcastle disease virus (rHVT-NDV) vaccine against Newcastle disease virus (NDV) challenged in 14 days old broiler chickens. One hundred chickens were divided into 5 groups of 20 chickens each. Group 1 chickens received live NDV vaccine via the intra-nasal route. Group 2 chickens received rHVT-NDV vaccine by subcutaneous injection. Group 3 chickens, received both live NDV and rHVT-NDV vaccine. Groups 4 and 5 chickens did not receive any vaccine and served as positive and negative control groups. At 14 days old, all the chickens …

Effect Of A Rapid Heat Treatment On Thai Qx-Like Infectious Bronchitis Virus And Evaluation Of Protection Induced By A Heat-Treated Virus, Tawatchai Pohuang, Sucheeva Junnu

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a rapid heat-treatment method on Thai QX-like infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) and the efficacy on protection from the virus after heat treatment. QX-like IBV isolate THA46 was incubated at 56 oC. The incubated virus was collected every 5 min for up to 1 h and then they were inoculated into embryonated chicken eggs. At 6 days post-inoculation, allantoic fluid was harvested from the embryonated eggs which were inoculated with virus of the longest heat-treatment time that induced lesions in the embryos. That allantoic fluid was used in a subsequent …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (I-ELISA) for antibody detection against A. paragallinarum serovars A, B and C was developed in separated plates. One hundred Babcock 308 female layer chickens were randomly divided into five groups of 20 each. Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 were different positive control groups of immunized chickens with commercial trivalent mineral oil vaccine, and prepared bacterins of Avibacterium paragallinarum serovars A (221), B (0222) and C (Modesto), respectively. The chickens in Group 5 were assigned as a negative control. Positive and negative control sera from the chickens in Groups 1-5 at 2 weeks after the second …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The aflatoxin effect on humoral and mucosal immunity against infectious bronchitis (IB) vaccine was studied in 225 one-day-old chicks. The chicks were divided in 3 equal groups. Treatment groups included group A: chickens fed a basal diet, and group B: chickens fed 3 ppm productive aflatoxin in a basal diet. The chickens in groups A and B were vaccinated against IB (at one and 10 days old) by H120 live attenuated vaccine. For group C, chickens did not receive aflatoxin and were not vaccinated against IB. All chickens received experimental diets from 3 to 28 days old, continuously. At 28 …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Microarray containing 13319 probes was used to construct gene expression profiles in order to screendifferentially expressed genes of muscle tissues in Rugao chicken and investigate the molecular mechanism relatedwith muscle tissue traits at 2 and 12 weeks old of chicken. Two hundred and eight differentially expressed genes, ofwhich 108 were known genes, 94 up-regulated, 114 down-regulated were involved in growth, molecular mechanism, fat metabolism, cell proliferation, transcription and splicing factor, protein synthesis and degradation. Meanwhile, some genes of these differentially expressed genes that had no annotation in GenBank were screened out, they werepresumed to be unknown new genes. The differential expressions of …

Cloning And Analysis Of Pirnas From Testes Of Three Species, Guobin Chang, Rong Chen, Ying Zhang, Aiqin Dai, Teng Ma, Guohong Chen

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

piRNAs are a testis-specific class of small RNAs in mammal. Sixteen sequences of piRNAs were cloned fromthree different species by the method of construction of cDNA library including two sequences from mouse, eightsequences from quail and six sequences from chicken. Herein, the two piRNAs sequences from mouse had alreadybeen identified, while the others were cloned for the first time. The sequence analysis indicated that the avian piRNAshad a similar length and a preference of uridine for 5’-end with varying degrees to the mammalian piRNAs. Besidethe function in the process of sperm development and maturation, avian piRNAs may also have a …
