In the porcine reproductive tract, the oviduct is the vital organ for fertilization and early embryonic development. Repeat breeder (RB) gilts have previously shown the abnormal histological changes and deviant hormonal levels throughout estrous cycle. The aim of present study was to examine the oviduct epithelium of gilts culled due to RB (n = 9) in comparison to normal sows (controls, n = 6) by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Management Of Gastric Dilatation/Volvulus And Its Cardiac Complication In A Saint Bernard, Chollada Buranakarl, Mongkol Trisiriroj, Suwanakiet Sawangkoon
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
A five-year-old Saint Bernard was presented at the Small Animal Hospital, Chulalongkorn University with clinical signs of acute abdominal distention and severe pain. The gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV) was diagnosed and was confirmed at surgery. The volvulus appeared in both stomach and spleen in which both organs were partially damaged. The dog developed cardiac arrhythmia the next day after surgery starting with accelerated idioventricular rhythm. Multiple types of arrhythmias were seen including ventricular tachycardia with R on T phenomenon and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. The antiarrhythmic drugs, amiodarone and carvedilol were given to convert to normal sinus rhythm and drugs …

Analysis Of Y Chromosome Rearrangements Between B. Taurus And B. Indicus, Duangsmorn Suwattana, Hannes Joerg, Daria Graphodatskaya, Gerald Stranzinger

The significantly high similarity of karyotypes were shown between Bos taurus and B. indicus except for morphology of the Y-chromosome. The B. taurus-Y (BTA-Y) is submetacentric whereas the B. indicus-Y (BIN-Y) is acrocentic. Based on the hybridization of the chromosome painting technique, the difference between Y chromosomes in B. taurus and B. indicus was proposed to be originated from the pericentric inversion between these two species. However, hybridization of SRY to the sub-centromeric end of BIN-Y indicated a double pericentric inversion found between B. taurus and B. indicus. Morphology Of The Heart Of A White-Cheeked Gibbon (Hylobates Concolor), Tilladit Rung-Ruangkijkrai, Wuthichai Klomkleaw, Pakorn Prachammuang

The heart was recovered at post mortem from an adult white-cheeked gibbon, Hylobates concolor, for anatomical and histological studies. Macroscopically, it had oval shape, blunt and spherical apex with 3.5 cm. and 5 cm. in width and length. Smooth edged comma-shaped right auricle was markedly bigger than the jaggededged left auricle. Pectinate muscles were found both at the internal surface of the right auricle and lateral free wall of the right atrium, while limited only in blind part of the left auricle. The coronary arteries supply was left coronary type. The left coronary artery gave circumflex and paraconal interventricular branches. …

Assisted Reproduction Techniques In Horses: The Challenge, Theerawat Tharasanit, Mongkol Techakumphu
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Assisted reproduction techniques (ARTs), such as artificial insemination and embryo transfer are well established and have been used in a wide range of species. To date, the economic impact of these ARTs in horses has rapidly increased. While many studies have attempted to improve the efficiency of ARTs, overall success remains relatively restricted due principally to a limited knowledge of the unique reproductive physiology of this species. Improving efficiency of particular techniques has become an affordable milestone in the development of ARTs in equine reproduction.

Sixty male Spraque-Dawley rats were used in this study. The hearts were isolated and placed on a constant-pressure Langendorff apparatus, and perfused with only Krebs-Henseleit buffer (control), atenolol, atenolol plus prazosin, and atenolol plus salbutamol. After that the left anterior descending artery was occluded for 8 minutes and reperfused for 30 minutes to induce cardiac arrhythmias. The left ventricular pressure and coronary flow rate were monitored, and ECGs were recorded to evaluate cardiac arrhythmias. The administration of atenolol (β1-adrenergic antagonist) combined with prazosin (α1-adrenergic antagonist) prolonged RR intervals whereas that of atenolol combined with salbutamol (β2-adrenergic antagonist) did not prolong …

Success Rate And Postoperative Complications Of Phacoemulsification In 25 Cataractous Eyes : A Retrospective Study In 20 Dogs (2003-2005), Pasakorn Brikshavana
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Phacoemulsification was performed on 25 eyes of 20 dogs (7 females and 13 males) with a mean patient age ± SD at the time of surgery of 8.12 ± 2.76 years (range 4-14.5 years). The medical records were reviewed for surgical outcome and postoperative complications. Success rate was calculated by determining the number of successful eyes divided by the total number of the eyes in the studied group. The results showed that restoration of functional vision was noted in 24/25 eyes at the end of the study. The success rate of this study was 96%. The most frequently observed complication …

Phacofragmentation And Aspiration In Canine Mature Cataract: Surgical Technique, Success Rate And Complications, Pranee Tuntivanich, Nalinee Tuntivanich

Phacofragmentation and aspiration technique without intraocular lens implantation was reported in 26 mature cataractous dogs. Dogs included in this study were 13 Poodles, 6 crossbred dogs, 4 Cocker spaniels, 1 Shih-tzu, 1 West Highland white terrier and 1 Miniature pinscher. All dogs were clinically blinded from bilateral mature cataracts with positive dazzle reflex prior to the surgery. 24 dogs (92.31%) regained vision after the surgery which remained until the end of the study. Vitreous degeneration was found pre-operatively in one dog. Hyphema, displacement of lens into vitreous chamber, rupture of the posterior lens capsule and miosis were found intra-operatively in …

This study was to conduct a surveillance of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) infection in mixed Thai native chickens. Samples were submitted from 30 mixed Thai native chicken flocks, 15 birds per flock, aged between 1 and 4 months without MG vaccination in the area of Nakornpathom province during the September 2005 - October 2006 period. Each bird was bled for MG serology by a serum plate agglutination (SPA) test and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test kits and swabbed for MG antigen detection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Significant changes in respiratory disease have occurred over the last 20 years. There are two primary reasons for this. In the first instance, there has been the occurrence of two major worldwide plagues-PRRS and PCV2-associated diseases. The second reason has been the considerable advances in vaccination, which have become available for some of the respiratory diseases, in particular Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae. Vaccines have also become available for porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRS), influenza viruses (outside UK) and probably in the near future against porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2).

The study was aimed at finding out whether dog sperm could be labelled using 99mTc-HMPAO and finding the optimum incubation temperature and amount of 99mTc-HMPAO to label spermatozoa from fresh ejaculates and from frozen-thawed semen. A radiopharmaceutical was prepared by reconstituting 0.5 mg of HMPAO with 5 ml pertechnetate solution containing 100 kBq 99mTc. Semen samples were obtained from three dogs, pooled and divided into aliquots containing 100x106 spermatozoa each. Fresh and frozen-thawed semen samples were used. An extremely rare case of congenital oesophageal stenosis in a two-month-old, male, miniature pincher dog was reported. The puppy was presented at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, with a history of an acute onset of regurgitation at the time of weaning on to solid food. Contrast radiography of the oesophagus showed that the oesophagus at the cervical and thoracic-inlet portions was moderately dilated. Upon oesophagoscopic examination, the oesophageal lumen adjacent to the heart base showed intraluminal stenosis. Haemotrophic Mycoplasma is the obligatory bacteria formerly classified to the genus Haemobartonella. This blood mycoplasma is responsible for the cause of a cat disease, haemoplasmosis or feline infectious anemia (FIA). The housed cats evidenced by cachexia, high fever and a certain degree of anemic condition have been reported with FIA worldwide. However, this disease is only a presumptive case in Thailand where the disease is presumably endemic. We examined two cats suffering from FIA tested with the standard microscopic examination. A total of 115 biopsies of the cardia, fundus, body and pyloric antrum of swine (mean weight 150 kg) obtained from slaughterhouses in Nakornpathom province (Thailand) were investigated.
