Transitioning from doctoral preparation to the academy is a stressor for most new faculty, particularly among academicians in the medical and health professions where role strain may include clinical responsibilities as part of faculty load. The proliferation of clinical doctorates and terminal clinical allied health degrees has increased the need for both traditionally trained educators, but also faculty with clinical doctorates or terminal clinical degrees (CDF) to augment the curriculum. Patients’ emotional well-being highly affects the outcomes of rehabilitation. Psychological interventions enhance the rehabilitation process. We describe a normal rehabilitation curve in which injured patients experience a cycle of emotional highs and lows. We also suggest a four-step consulting strategy to address these emotional changes during the rehabilitation process: (1) In which stage of change is the patient? Chromosome 3p21–22 harbors two clusters of chemokine receptor genes, several of which serve as major or minor coreceptors of HIV-1. Although the genetic association of CCR5 andCCR2 variants with HIV-1 pathogenesis is well known, the role of variation in other nearby chemokine receptor genes remain unresolved. We genotyped exonic single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in chemokine receptor genes: CCR3, CCRL2, and CXCR6 (at 3p21) and CCR8 and CX3CR1 (at 3p22), the majority of which were non-synonymous. Virtual interactive environments such as Second Life are emerging as innovative tools that can support and enhance learning in various educational domains. However, for the educational practitioner new to these environments, developing educational settings and activities in a virtual environment can appear to be technically complex and beyond their area of expertise. This case study describes some of the technical challenges encountered and the solutions derived during the development of a virtual world for the delivery of a health science interprofessional communications course.

The purpose of the quantitative, ex post facto, correlational research study was to describe a relationship between rural allied health care mean customer satisfaction scores and allied health care departments’ generation of revenue for a hospital. The research method for the study was appropriate because it identified a relationship between two variables: the customer service skills of allied health care practitioners and a hospital’s gross revenue. The study involved analyzing historical patient satisfaction surveys and corresponding hospital revenue statements from a rural hospital in northeastern Oklahoma for a 25-month period. The purpose of this paper is to describe a pilot study that will further develop and refine the capstone course for an 11-credit hour Interprofessional Curriculum. The course is being designed to allow students an opportunity to apply interprofessional concepts within the context of a practicum experience. Students were recruited from a variety of Health Science programs. Eleven volunteered to participate representing nursing, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. A cohort measurement of tibio-femoral angle (TFA) is more meaningful and reliable than a cross-sectional survey in investigating TFA pattern of development. This study reports the pattern of knee angle development in a cohort of 152 normal Nigerian children during the first 12 months of life. The infants’ tibio-femoral angle, inter-condylar, and inter-malleoli distances were measured at monthly intervals using clinical methods. Age-reference values were generated. Results showed that the developmental pattern of tibio-femoral angle is extreme varus at birth with values ranging from 5°to 25°. The threat of bioterrorism with smallpox and the broad use of vaccinia vectors for other vaccines have led to the resurgence in the study of vaccinia immunological memory. The importance of the role of CD4+ T cells in the control of vaccinia infection is well known. However, more CD8+ than CD4+ T cell epitopes recognized by human subjects immunized with vaccinia virus have been reported. BACKGROUND: Raloxifene, a second-generation selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women is administered orally in the form of a tablet. The absolute bioavailability of the drug is only 2% because of extensive hepatic first-pass metabolism. Lipid-based formulations are reported to reduce the first-pass metabolism by promoting its lymphatic uptake. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the present investigation, microemulsion and Self-Microemulsifying Drug Delivery System (SMEDDS) formulations of Raloxifene were prepared. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) and traditional classroom lecture (TCL). A randomized two-group pretest/posttest quasi-experimental design was used. Thirty first year students in a Master of Occupational Therapy program located in the southwestern United States were recruited. All participants were female, with a mean age of 25.8 years. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an integral part of health professionals’ training. However, there is little research concerning learning outcomes in the allied health student population. This study explored changes in self-reported EBP knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours, and actual EBP knowledge of entry-level physiotherapy students following exposure to formal EBP training. Methods: Entry-level Bachelors and Masters physiotherapy students were surveyed before and after completing EBP training courses. Two validated and reliable surveys, the Evidence-Based Practice Profile Questionnaire (EBP2) and the Knowledge of Research Evidence Competencies (K-REC) survey were used. The readability level of many patient education materials is too high for patients to comprehend, placing the patient’s health at risk. Since health professionals often recommend Internet-based patient education resources, they must ensure that the readability of information provided to consumers is at an appropriate level. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the readability of educational brochures found on the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) consumer website.
