These changes have a very significant influence on the growth and reproduction of fish populations. In this study, the effects of different phases of reservoir ontogeny on fish growth in Gelingüllü Dam Lake, a typical Central Anatolian reservoir, were monitored. The growth of mirror carp introduced into Gelingüllü Dam Lake was studied both during an initial phase, from 1995 to 1996, and during a later pre-depression phase, from 1998 to 2000. The growth parameters were compared in …

Introducing A New Approach To Estimating Red Meat Production In Turkey, Fahri̇ Yavuz, Carl R. Zulauf Jan 2004

Introducing A New Approach To Estimating Red Meat Production In Turkey, Fahri̇ Yavuz, Carl R. Zulauf

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A common concern with official estimates of red meat production in Turkey is that they underestimate the level of production. One of the frequently cited reasons is that unregulated slaughter is undercounted. This study uses an estimation method based on the biology of red meat production to examine the potential impact of this undercounting. The production estimates obtained for 1991-1998 using this biological-based method exceed the numbers estimated by official organizations, but fall within the range of estimates obtained from other proposed approaches to estimating red meat production.

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The objective of this study was to define the coefficients for the calculation of standard milk production and the average daily milk production for the whole lactation, from the milk production measured on one test day. Individual milk production data from a farm, with an average of 45 milking cows, in the Khonkaen province, were collected daily over a period of one year. Data from healthy cows, in lactations 1 to 6, were used. The lactation period was divided into 13 separate periods: days 0-15, 16-30, and every 30-day period after that. Parity was divided into first parity and parities …
