Productive Response To Two Concentrate Allocation Strategies In Dairy Cows Grazing With Restricted Pasture Allowance, Gustavo Bretschneider, Eloy Salado, Alejandra Cuatrin, Juan Mattera, Mariela Pece, Dario Arias, Maira Cuffia, Virginia Dieguez
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The objective of this study was to compare the effects of two concentrate allotment strategies on the performance of dairy cows grazing on restricted pasture and supplemented with conserved forage. Dairy cows fed equal amounts of concentrate (fixed daily rate: 5.5 kg DM/cow) were compared to cows supplemented with concentrate according to their lactation stage as follows: 10.0, 5.0, and 1.5 kg DM/cow daily during early, mid, and late lactation, respectively (average daily dose: 5.5 kg DM/cow). There was a supplementation strategy × lactation stage interaction (P < 0.05) for energy-corrected milk (ECM). For early lactation cows, supplementation at a variable rate increased ECM yield by 14.61% (P < 0.05). There was a supplementation strategy × lactation stage interaction (P < 0.05) for body weight change. At late lactation stage, cows supplemented at a fixed rate gained weight (+ 0.16 kg/day), whereas those supplemented at a variable rate lost weight (- 0.08 kg/day; P < 0.05). No significant effect was found for body condition score. The prioritization of milk production rather than the attenuation of body reserve mobilization suggests that concentrate allowance based on lactation stage may be unsuitable for minimizing the negative energy balance in early lactation cows.

Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) causes heavy economic losses in chicken farms worldwide. Like many other viral diseases, vaccination is the gold standard approach in controlling and preventing the spread of IBV. However, IBV is continuously evolving and new strains of this virus emerge that, due to variable antigenic cross-reactivity, may reduce or nullify the protective effect of vaccination programs. Therefore, advance knowledge of the IBV strain(s) circulating in a region will be very useful in deciding which commercial vaccine(s) would be most effective. In this line, we analyzed the nucleotide sequence of the full-length 1$_{1}$ gene of IBV viruses isolated …

However, cellular mechanisms of ß-CTX on cardiomyocyte is unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of ß-CTX on isolated rat cardiomyocyte function and the cardiac myofibrillar activity, and to explore involvement of ß-adrenergic receptor (ß-AR) signaling pathway. ß-CTX was isolated and purified using two-step chromatographic method and confirmed by N-terminal sequencer. The function of ß-CTX on cardiomyocyte was compared to propranolol in 3 conditions, basal state, with isoproterenol (ISO), and with forskolin (FSK). ß-CTX exhibited more potency than …
The Left Ventricular Functions And Heart Rate Variability In Dogs With Pulmonic Valvular Stenosis, Ploypanut Trikhun
The Left Ventricular Functions And Heart Rate Variability In Dogs With Pulmonic Valvular Stenosis, Ploypanut Trikhun
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Pulmonic valvular stenosis (PS) is one of the most common congenital heart diseases in dogs that can lead to the cardiac maladaptation. Also, PS can affect the cardiac autonomic nervous system (ANS). However, clinical information regarding to systolic function and cardiac ANS alteration in PS dogs had not been fully elucidated. The objectives of this study were to evaluate cardiac electrical property, left ventricular (LV) function, and to assess cardiac ANS from heart rate variability (HRV) analysis in PS dogs compared with healthy dogs. The dogs in this study were divided into 2 groups, PS dogs (n=13) and healthy control …

Genetic And Pathogenic Characterizations Of Newly Emerged Duck Tembusu Virus Isolated In Thailand, Patchareeporn Ninvilai
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Duck Tembusu virus (DTMUV), a mosquito-borne Flavivirus, caused an emerging disease in ducks in Asia since 2010, resulting in significant economic loss in duck producing industry. After the initial outbreak in 2013, DTUMV cases have been continuously detected in several duck farms in Thailand. Thus, the disease surveillance and the genetic characterization of the Thai DTMUV are necessary. Therefore, the first objective of this dissertation was to investigate the genetic characteristic of DTMUVs circulating in Thailand. Our retrospective study demonstrated the presence of DTMUV in the Thai ducks since 2007. Phylogenetic analysis of the polyprotein gene sequence revealed that the …
Single Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination With Fresh Or Frozen Thawed Semen In Pig, Pachara Pearodwong
Single Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination With Fresh Or Frozen Thawed Semen In Pig, Pachara Pearodwong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Single fixed-time AI is the breeding protocol inseminating the sows once with either fresh or frozen-thawed (FT) semen at fixed time after ovulation induction without estrus detection. To develop the success single fixed-time AI protocol in Thailand, factors affecting the efficacy of single fixed-time AI were evaluated. Additionally, we also evaluated the effect of using lecithin in cryopreservation extender on FT semen qualities in order to find the possibility to perform single fixed-time AI using sperm preserved in lecithin based extender. It was found that administration of 10 ug buserelin at 72 h after weaning decreased weaning-to-ovulation interval compared to …

Development Of An Indirect Elisa To Detect Antibodies Against Actinobacillus Suis Using Boiled Whole Cell Antigen, Siriluck Juntautsa
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Actinobacillus suis is considered an opportunistic pathogen in swine that can cause disease in animals of all ages, especially in high health status herds. The objective of this study was to developed an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using boiled whole cell antigen for the detection of antibody against A. suis. The selected herd has clinical problems associated with A. suis infection. In addition, this herd was not received any Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (APP) vaccine nor diagnosed with APP infection before the study. The isolation of A. suis was recovered from lung of the infected pig in the selected herd. Moreover, …
