Increased secretion of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), is often associated with adipose tissue dysregulation, which often accompanies obesity. High levels of TNFα have been linked to the development of insulin resistance in several tissues and organs, including skeletal muscle and the liver. In this study, we examined the complex regulatory roles of TNFα in murine hepatocytes utilizing a combination of global proteomic and phosphoproteomic analyses. Our results show that TNFα promotes extensive changes not only of protein levels, but also the dynamics of their downstream phosphorylation signaling. We provide evidence that TNFα induces DNA replication and …

Lesser scaup (Aythya affinis) and greater scaup (A. marila), hereafter scaup, consume a variety of aquatic invertebrates, plants, and occasionally small fish. Scaup have foraged on commercial aquaculture farms in the southern United States for decades. However, the types, abundance, and rate of fish exploitation by scaup on baitfish and sportfish farms are not well documented. Thus, information is needed to understand how fish and other foods influence scaup use of aquatic resources, and any potential economic effects of depredation of fish. From November–March in winters 2016–2017 and 2017–2018, we conducted 1,458 pond surveys to …

Canine monocytic ehrlichiosis is a vector-borne disease that can induce renal failure in dogs. In this study we aimed to describe the potential diagnostic efficiency of CRP and suPAR in dogs infected with E. canis and the association between suPAR and CRP with renal failure. For this purpose, the study consisted of a total of 17 dogs, 8 of infected with E. canis and 9 of healty. For evaluating renal failure, plasma urea-creatinine and UPC were determined and also measurements of plasma CRP and suPAR were analysed with ELISA test kits. Mean CRP, suPAR, urea, creatinine and UPC levels of …
