In this study, protein bands of excretory/secretory antigens of Fasciola hepatica were determined using SDS-PAGE and Western blotting. Blood and faecal samples were obtained from cattle brought to Kazan slaughterhouse. After examining the organs and faecal samples of these cattle for Fasciola hepatica and other helminths, serum samples were divided into two groups as positive (10 cattle) and negative (5 cattle) for F. hepatica. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (SD) were kept in medium between the postnatal 80^{th} and 130^{th} day while environmental temperature (from 20 to 5 ºC) and photoperiod were decreased gradually. The weight of the animals adapted to the cold and the weight and length of the external digitorum longus (EDL) muscle were measured. When compared with controls, in a cold environment the weight and fiber length of the muscle was reduced significantly. In this study, corpus mandibula fractures were experimentally induced on 30 rabbits and 3 different materials were used for fixation. Thirty rabbits were arranged into 3 groups and then wire, polydioxanone and mini plate and screw osteosynthesis materials were used. The fracture healing was examined and compared with clinical, radiological and histological results. This study was performed to establish techniques used in the isolation and identification of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and investigate the presence of V. parahaemolyticus in fish and clams. Between June 1998 and June 2000, a total of 46 fish samples including 14 anchovies, 12 whiting, 10 horse mackerel and 10 sardines collected from fish markets in Bursa and a total of 70 clam samples collected from shellfish stations in Sakarya and Kocaeli districts were tested for V. parahaemolyticus. This research was carried out on 125-day-old Ile de France (IF)X Akkaraman (AK) (G1) male lambs. In the research, the phenotypic parameters of some testis characteristics determined before and after slaughtering were calculated. The aim of this investigation was to compare some quality characteristics of goose-meat salami with those of turkey- and chicken-meat salami in order to determine its suitability for consumption and to able to use goose meat for meat product technology. The pH values of experimental samples were highest in the goose-meat salami and lowest in the turkey-meat salami. Moisture rates of samples produced with a mixture of two kinds of poultry meat were lower than those of the others. For the first time in Turkey, renal autotransplantation in 7 cats and renal allotransplantation in 7 cats having blood-crossmatch-compatible donors were performed. Immunosuppression was maintained by a prednisolone-cyclosporin combination in the renal allotransplantation group. All cats in the renal allotransplantation group died during the operation or between 3 and 72 h postoperatively. Two cats in the renal autotransplantation group survived approximately 2 years. Hyperacute or acute rejection findings were not encountered according to perioperative observations, laboratory findings or histopathological evaluations of renal allografts. In this study we examined factors affecting the colonization of campylobacters in chick intestines, colonization times and elicited immune responses. In chicks, infected orally by minimal infective dose _{100} (MID_{100}), colonization in the intestines was observed to reach 100% during the 3-week period following C. jejuni and C. coli inoculation. When the SDS-PAGE protein profiles of the inoculated and isolated strains were examined similarities of 98.3% among C. jejuni strains and 98.5% among C. coli strains were determined. This study was carried out on cattle to detect the seroprevalence of babesiosis around Kayseri between July 1997 and January 1999. During this period a total of 191 cattle were examined for the Babesia species. Blood samples were collected from the cattle to obtain sera. Trifolium pratense contains phytoestrogens and thus it has estrogenic activity. Estrogen has an important role in the development of the reproductive system and the maintanence of its function, and for this reason the effect of Trifolium pratense on sperm parameters and spermatogenesis was examined. This study was performed to determine the relationship between the corpus luteum weight/diameter, follicular diameter and the levels of vitamin C, progesterone and oestradiol 17-\beta of the plasma, corpus luteum and follicular fluid of pregnant Holstein cows in a slaughterhouse. Progesterone and oestradiol 17-\beta concentrations were determined by the microtitration plate EIA method. Vitamin C levels were determined by spectrophotometer. Although there was a positive correlation between follicular fluid oestradiol 17-\beta levels and the follicle diameter in the follicular fluid, in contrast to oestradiol 17-\beta levels, small follicles have higher progesterone content than large follicles. This study was performed to investigate the effects of sodium lactate on the microbiological quality and shelf-life of raw meatballs. For this purpose, 0.5%, 1.0% and 2.0% sodium lactate were added to the batter of Inegol meatballs that were prepared in accordance with traditional methods. The samples of meatballs were packed after being shaped and then were stored in a refrigerator for ten days. This study was conducted in Seyhan River between May 1997 and May 1998. Basic haematological parameters and effects of seasonal differences on these parameters were determined in Roach (Rutilus rutilus, Linnaeus, 1758) and Spotted Barb (Capoeta barroisi, Lortet, 1894) species which had adapted to water polluted by agricultural, industrial and domestic wastes. The waste of slaughterhouses also flowed into the region. The results of the study showed that there were deviations from standard values for most of the haematological parameters for R. rutilus indicating that R. rutilus individuals were affected by environmental stress factors more than those of C. barroisi.

This research was conducted to determine the characteristics of milk yield of Holstein Friesian cows raised at Kocas state farm in Central Anatolia. The material of the research was 970 lactation records of 362 dairy cows raised from 1988 to 1995 at Kocas state farm. Statistical analysis of the records was conducted with the Minitab version 9.2 computer program. Significant differences between groups were determined by the method of Least Significant Difference (LSD). Haemocyte Classification And Differential Counts In The Freshwater Crab, Potamon Fluviatilis, Hi̇jran Yavuzcan Yildiz, Hasan Hüseyi̇n Atar

Three haemocyte groups were identified in the freshwater crab, Potamon fluviatilis: hyalinocytes, semigranulocytes and granulocytes. The proportion of hyalinocytes was found to be 15%, that of semigranulocytes 54.25% and that of 30.75% granulocytes.

Larvae of Aelurostrongylus abstrusus were identified in the feces of a 2-year-old female cat suffering from dyspnea and incoordination for 18 months. The larvae had a terminal S-shaped projection and a subterminal dorsal spine. The larvae measured 363-378x15 µm (aver. 370x15 µm). Firstly, moxidectin (0.4 mg/kg) was given subcutaneously to 3 healthy stray cats over 1 year old to check adverse effects on cats. No adverse reaction was observed. Since 1994, wildlife biologists and wildlife health specialists have worked to determine the cause of avian vacuolar myelinopathy (AVM), a neurologic disease of bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) and other birds. The causes of morbidity and mortality in wildlife typically are determined through both antemortem and postmortem examinations, combined with ancillary tests for microbiological organisms, toxicants and other etiologies. However, the etiology of AVM has not been determined yet, despite extensive diagnostic investigations, including examinations for common disease agents, as well as infrequent or unusual causes of mortality.
