The Effect Of Ultraviolet B (Uvb) Radiation On Some Electrolytes In Rats, Mukaddes Özcan, Göknur Akin, Ülker Çöteli̇oğlu, Murat Arslan
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In our research, the effect of UVB radiation on the amounts of Ca^{++}, inorganic P(Pi), K^+, Na^+, Mg^{++} , Cl^- in serums of 22 week- old Wistar-Albino rats was investigated. UVB radiation was applied to trial group animals at dosages used for treatment (4 J/ cm^2) for a period of 4 weeks. The blood samples were taken before the ray application as the control group. At the end of one month there was no change in the amounts of Pi, K^+, Mg^{++} but the level of serum -Ca^{++} increased significantly (P

The Effects Of Hyperthyroidism And Hypothyroidism Over The Egg Quality In Japanese Quails (Coturnix Coturnix Japonica), Mukaddes Özcan, Turgut Kirmizibayrak, Ülker Çölteli̇oğlu
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In this study, the influence of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism on the egg quality in 5 week-female Japanese quails was investigated. Hyperthyroidsm and hypothyroidism were achieved by mixing 0.4 mg/100 g. levatrocsyn-sodium and % 0.2 g. propylthiouracil (PTU) in to the food during the 5 weeks period, respectively. It was found that egg weight, albumen weight, shell weight and shell thickness values in both trial groups reduced (P
Effects Of Calving Season And Lactation Order On Milk Yield And Milk Components In Simmental Cows, Özel Şekerden
Effects Of Calving Season And Lactation Order On Milk Yield And Milk Components In Simmental Cows, Özel Şekerden
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The research was performed to investigate effects of calving season and lactation order on milk yield components and changing of milk components with lactation stage in Simmental cows. Milk samples were taken at AM milkings in 30±15^{th}, 90±15^{th}, 150±15^{th} and 210±15^{th} days of lactations. Lactation stages' effect was found significant level statistically on only the rate of total solid matter (TSM). Calving season's effect was found at significant level statistically on 305-day milk yield; fat, protein, TSM, casein rates and lactation yield of casein. Although lactation order's effect was significant on all the component rates and yields of lactation except …

Blood And Milk Protein Polymorphism And Their Effects On Various Production Traits In Simmental Cows, Özel Şekerden, Faruk Doğrul, Hüseyi̇n Erdem
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This research was carried out to determine the transferrin (Tf) and haemoglobine (Hb) and milk protein (alfa-S_1-casein, beta casein, capa casein, beta lactoglobuline) types, and relationships between Tf and Hb types and milk protein genotypes with various characteristics. The relationship between Tf types and milk yields of control milking and control day were only statistically significant (P0.05). None of the investigated characteristics were effected by milk protein genetic variants at statistically significant level.

The Effect Of Different Levels Of Nutrition At Last Period Of Gestation On Liveweight Of Ewes, Growth And Survival Rates Of Their Lambs, İsmai̇l Fi̇lya, Ali̇ Karabulut, Vedat Akgündüz
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The animal material of the research was 3, 4 and 5 years old 210 Merino ewes and their lambs. The research was started at the beginning of the last 1.5 months period of gestation and continued until the lambs were reached 60 days age. It has been determined that 500 g and more (especially 1500 g) concentrate feed given fed ewes daily at the last 1.5 months period of gestation increased the liveweight and decreased the weight loss of ewes and increased birth weight, growth and survival rates of lambs.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Nucleic acids of infectious bursal disease viruses (IBDV), (Marmara:G3,G12,G41; Agean: G34,G35; Central Anatolia: ETL3) isolated from the infectious bursal disease (IBD) outbreaks occured in chickens during 1990's in Turkey were examined and compared with those of serotype 1 D78 strain using the SDS-PAGE technique. Six field viruses showed two segmented RNA structure similar to the reference strain in silver nitrate stained gel and no differences were detected in the migration distances of the RNA segments among the viruses tested. The field isolate designated G12 that was not characterized before by virus neutralization (VN) test showed two segmented RNA pattern similar …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The 42 honey bee colonies collected from 5 apiaries at 4 different localities in the Central Anatolia and breeder stock of Turkish Development Foundation (TKV) were used as the material of this research. The 32 morphological characteristics were determined for the Central Anatolian ecotypes (A. m. anatoliaca) obtained from Kırşehir, Beypazarı, Çankırı and Eskişehir and for the Caucasian race (A. m. caucasica). The discriminant analysis procedures were applied to morphological data measured from 25 workers from each colony and the results showed that the Central Anatolian ecotypes and Caucasian race constituted two distinct groups. The Central Anatolian ecotypes formed an …

Having partial purification of Carbonic anhydrase from gill and liver of Van Lake fish by ethanol-chloroform and acetone-chloroform, the esterase activity was performed by using p-nitrophenyl acetate as a substrate on spectrophotometer. The effects of the some kinetic parameters (km, Vo, Vmax, Na_2CO_3 activation, optimum pH etc.) have been examined When Lineweaver-Burk diagram of liver extracts (at 25°C) is examined, ethanol has an apparent competitive inhibition compare to acetone extracts. So Km of the substrate (p-nitrophenyl acetate) is 0.95 mM …

This study was conducted to determine the growth performances and carcass characteristics of Bronze turkeys reared in intensive and semi-intensive conditions. Live weights of Bronze turkeys reared in intensive and semi-intensive conditions (male+female) were found as; 4273.8±95.5 g and 4185.0±107 g at the end of 16. weeks, respectively. Difference between the mean weights was not significant (P>0.05). Turkeys reared on floor were consumed more feed than the other group. Cumulative feed consumptions of turkeys reared in intensive and semi-intensive conditions were determined as 13562.0±50.0 g and 12415.0±100.0 g at the end of 16. weeks, respectively. Difference between these values …
