This study was carried out on cows, sheep and goats in Salkaya Village, Kovancılar, Baskıl and Sivrice towns and in Elazığ during 1994 and 1995. Fifty two myiasis cases were detected throughout the study. Forty seven (90.38%) and 5 (9.62%) of the cases were determined in sheep and cows respectively, no myiasis case was encountered in goats. Twenty two (42.32%) of the cases were seen in June during 1994 and 1995, 10 (19.23%) in May, 9 (17.31%) in July, 8 (15.38%) in September and 3 (5.77%) in August. Identification of the collected larvae showed that 51 (98.08%) and 1 (1.92%) …

Pathological Findings In Caecal Coccidiosis Of Chickens, Ayhan Atasever, K. Semi̇h Gümüşsoy
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Caecal coccidiosis was determined in 12 white Leghorn chickens aged 18 weeks. Macroscopically, slight thickness, con-gestion and petechie were observed in the caecum. The lumen of caecum was full of blood and, necrotic areas were seen on the mucosal surface due to the damagae of villi epithelisl cells. Microscopically, it was observed that erythrocyte, epithelial cells and forms of parasites were present in the lumen of caecum due to the damage of villi epithelial cells. Lymphocyte, plasma cell and heterophil cell infiltrations were found in the propria mucosa as well as gangrenous typhilitis containing focal necrosis.

Comparative Study Of Discolysis And Disc Fenestration In Dogs, Ömer Beşalti, Ahmet Özak, Faruk Akin, M. Yavuz Gülbahar, Ali̇ Bumi̇n
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Postoperative clinical, histopathological and radiological findings were evaluated for disc fenestration, open discolysis (chy-mopapain) and percutan discolysis which had been performed on three groups of dogs, each group containing 6 healthy mongrels of different ages, sexes and breeds. The degrees of intervertebral space narrowing were classified as mild, medium and severe according to postoperative radiological examinations. Sections which were prepared from intervertebral areas which had been operated on, were investigated histopathologically. It was considered that discolysis might be cost effective on type-2 disc diseases, cases without advanced paralysis and cases requiring prophylactic disc fenestration. According to clinical examination results neurological …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The arrhythmias occurring and caused to death during the anaesthesia is generated endogenous release of epinephrine or norepinephrine. Therefore, the effects of yohimbine (alpa-2 blocker), prazosin (alpha-1 blocker), metoprolol (beta-1 blocker) on the arrhythogenic dose of epinephrine in 10 dogs anesthetized with xylazine and kethamine combination, were researched in this study. The infusion of epinephrine, 1 mg/ml/min; yohimbine, 0.125 mg/kg; prazosin, 0.1 mg/kg; metoprolol 0.5 mg/kg in dose were made intravenously. The dose of epinephrine produced ventricular premature contraction and ventricular tachycardia were determined as total dose of epinephrine in mg/kg, given until the time that arrhythmia appeared. Metoprolol and …

Arginase (L-arginine amidino hydrolase E.C. 3.5.3.1) is an enzyme catalyzing the last stage of the Krebs-Henseleit cycle and, thus, converting arginine into urea and ornithine. Arginase also plays a part in protein and polyamine synthesis and is affected by hormones in terms of metabolic status. In the present study, erythrocyte, saliva, and serum arginase activity together with serum urea and estrogen levels were examined in Akkaraman and Ivesi sheep in pregnancy and postpartum. Comparisons were then made between the species. In pregnancy the urea level in saliva increased. However, the urea level in serum decreased. No clear difference was observed …

The Effects Of Egg Weight And Storage Time On Egg Weight Loss And Hatchability Traits Injapanese Quail, S. Kudret Saylam
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study examined the effects of egg weight and storage time on egg weight loss and hatchability traits. Egg were stored for 1, 3, 5. 7. 9 and 11 days, and collected into 3 egg weight groups (light, medium and heavier). Storage room temperature was 18-20°C and relative humidity was 55-58%. Eggs were weighted individually at laying, before placing into hatching, on days 5, 10, 14 and 18 of the hatching period to determine egg weight loss. Fertility and hatchability values decreased with the storage time. Higher fertility and less hatching were observed in heavier egg weight group. There was …

Proteolitic Enzyme Activities In Some Fishery Products(Catepsin D And Casein Test), Şükran Çakli
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In this study, proteolitic enzym activities searched on fillets and organs of brined and salted ringa ( Clupea harengus ), frozen Sebastes marinus and fresh cod ( Gadus morrhua ) with using Catepsin D (mg Tyrosin/L -1 ) and Casein (unit/mg) tests. At the end of the study proteolytic enzym activity determined with using Catepsin D on studied fishs, was higher than the proteolitic enzym activity determined with using Casein test. It was determined higher activity in organs (especially intestine and pyloric caeca) than the fillets. Because of this reason, after fishing as soon as organs and blood must remove …

This study was undertaken to investigation of microbial flora of pastırma, marketing in Ankara. For this purpose, a total of 80 pastırma samples, obtained from different markets, were analysed for microbiological aspect. Also, pH and water activity (aw) values were determined as a parallel to the microbiological analysis. In the frame of the analysis founds, the microbiological values were determined as fallows; The levels of total viable mesophilic count and lactobacilli 10^4-10^8 cfu/g, micrococci/staphylococci 10^4-10^7 cfu/g, enterobacteriaceae

This research was carried out to determine the genetic effects of divergent selection under two different selection pressures for four week body weight over three generations on slaughter weight, carcass weight, abdominal fat and some organ weights and blood serum parameters in Japanese quail. Birds were weighed individually. Individual selection for body weight was carried out at four weeks, separately for each sex. The proportion kept was 10 % for males and 30% for females in 10Y and 10D lines, and 20% for males and 60% females in 20Y and 20D lines. 10Y and 20Y lines were selected for high …
