Tungsten: The Strongest Natural Metal On Earth, Haley E. Holland, Razan Khadka, Lee Marble, Kaleb Tutor
ME 4133/6133 Mechanical Metallurgy
The overall objective of this project was to construct a process-structure-property-performance (PSPP) map for a chosen metallic material. The material chosen by the group is tungsten (W). Tungsten is a rare, naturally occurring element and is usually found in the form of ores. It is known predominantly for its ability to withstand extreme temperatures, as well as its high tensile strength. The PSPP map displays many specifications of tungsten in each of the four categories and further details regarding each specific linkage, or subcategory, within the map are written throughout the research paper.
Along with the four specific categories outlined …

An Analysis Of The Effects Of Process, Structure, And Properties On The Performance Of The Ti6al4v Alloy, Brad Jay Sampson, Loubna Ifqir
ME 4133/6133 Mechanical Metallurgy
Ti6Al4V (pronounced Ti-64), is a titanium alloy used in a variety of engineering applications including the aerospace, automotive, and biomedical industries. Ti6Al4V is made up of a combined ɑ-β microstructure, which provides it with many valuable properties such as high strength, low weight, high melting point, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. [1] For years, casting and forging have been the traditional processes used for the manufacturing of Ti6Al4V components, but recent interest in the additive manufacturing of Ti6Al4V through the Electron Beam Melting (EBM), Selective Laser Melting (SLM), and Directed Energy Deposition (DED) methods has been gained. The goal of this …

Duplex Stainless Steel 2205 In The Pulp And Paper Industry, Charlie S. Wilcher, Trevor Davus
ME 4133/6133 Mechanical Metallurgy
Duplex stainless steel’s durability, formability, and resistance to corrosion make it the primary steel option of the pulp and paper industry. The harsh environments found in certain aspects of this industry, such as in bleach plants, digesters, liquor vessels, and any piping where corrosive liquids may be passed, require the previously mentioned properties that duplex stainless steel 2205 offer. The structure and properties of duplex stainless steel, as well as the processes it undergoes, allow for it to withstand these environments. Research into the structure and properties of duplex stainless steel and the processes it undergoes will indicate how duplex …

Ar400 Wear Plates, Jase Tatum, Bryson Miller, John Howell, Aaron Alexander
ME 4133/6133 Mechanical Metallurgy
Wear resistance is an invaluable performance metric for most metallic components found in mechanical systems. Our research focused on AR400, a steel alloy known for its wear resistance capabilities, in an effort to determine what factors might be attributed to its performance in wear applications. After establishing the processing techniques and resulting material structures that give AR400 such an edge in extreme wear conditions, our goal is to determine indicators of wear resistance that can be used to distinguish excellent wear resistant alloys from average or subpar performers against wear.

X-ray diffraction techniques were performed to determine the actual crystal structure of A2 austenitic stainless steel (ASS) as-cast and A2 ASS after arc plasma sintering (APS) for 2 s. Computations were conducted on the basis of the Bragg arithmetic formula by comparing the S2 arithmetic with the interplanar spacing. The Bragg arithmetic formula is a simple series for the determination of the crystalline phase of materials based on the Miller indices of cubic shapes or other shapes. A2 ASS as-cast was identified to have a crystal structure of face-centered cubic with lattice parameter a = 3.58 Å. A similar crystal …

Makara Journal of Technology
The present work was carried out with the development of hybrid polymer electrolytes (HPEs) by using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)–polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) doped with different contents of lithium nitrate (LiNO3) for the determination of their structural and conduction properties. The structural analysis was conducted by using Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy and showed the interaction between the blend host polymer and ionic dopant, which formed via the coordinating site of CMC-PVA and Li+-NO3−. The complexes of CMC-PVA doped LiNO3 led to an increment in ionic conductivity, as observed by electrical impedance spectroscopy, and the sample containing 20 wt% LiNO3 obtained the highest …

Music is the art of combining frequencies. A balance of frequencies gives rise to a harmonious tone. Several features of music can be analyzed, and they include sociocultural background, lyrics, mood, tempo, rhythm, harmony, melody, timbre, and instrumentation. In this study, we use the frequency of instrumentation as a feature for classification because each instrument has a frequency range. To test this frequency range, we use five music genres and one music playing skill. The five genres are dangdut, electronic dance music (EDM), metal, pop/rock, and reggae. The music playing skill is acoustic. Active frequencies are tested using the k-nearest …

The cast-in-site HCS could be constructed without any difficulties. Three parameters were investigated: the effects of void content, shredded PET content, and steel-fiber (SF) content on the HCS ultimate bending capacity (Mu). Fifteen specimens were tested under …

Research on the relationship between the role of architecture and the psychology of children with autism, which indicates that appropriate environments for these children can have a significant effect on their healthcare process, has been recently conducted. However, statistics show that autism spectrum disorders are pervasive, and its extent in Iran has been increasing. Moreover, centers that are specifically designed for children with autism are limited, and paradigms are made without considering the mood of these children. Given the role of architecture in designing a suitable space for these children, an investigation that can identify the specific requirements of these …

Mean-Shift Object Tracking Algorithm With Systematic Sampling Technique, Yoanes Bandung, Aris Ardiansyah
Makara Journal of Technology
Mean shift is a fast object tracking algorithm that only considers pixels in an object area, hence its relatively small computational load. This algorithm is suitable for use in real-time conditions in terms of execution time. The use of histograms causes this algorithm to be relatively resistant to rotation and changes in object size. However, its resistance to lighting changes is not optimal. This study aims to improve the performance of the algorithm under lighting changes and reduce its processing time. The proposed technique involves the use of sampling techniques to reduce the number of iterations, optimization of candidate search …

The correlation of sea surface temperature with chlorophyll-a concentrations is modeled via linear regression. An analysis of variance test is performed to establish the suitability of the temperature data for the …

Absorption Of Nitrogen During Pulsed Wave L-Pbf Of 17-4 Ph Steel, Ben Brown, Joseph William Newkirk, Frank W. Liou
Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
In the fabrication of 17-4 PH by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) the well-documented occurrence of large amounts of retained austenite can be attributed to an elevated concentration of nitrogen present in the material. While the effects of continuous wave (CW) laser processing on in-situ nitrogen absorption characteristics have been evaluated, power modulated pulsed wave (PW) laser processing effects have not. In this study the effects of PW L-PBF processing of 17-4 PH on nitrogen absorption, phase composition, and mechanical performance are explored using commercially available PW L-PBF equipment and compared to samples produced by CW L-PBF. PW L-PBF samples …
