What is the solution to allowing tall vessels to navigate past a vehicle bridge that is less than 10 [ft] above the water? To answer this question, a balsa wood bridge was designed, constructed, and tested. The bridge needed to articulate by mechanical means, allow for travel through the bridge, and be able to withstand ample force while the main structure only being constructed of balsa wood and glue. The main goal of this dissertation research is to investigate catchment hydrological processes including infiltration and saturation excess runoff generation with consideration of groundwater table. For the infiltration process, an infiltration Péclet number was proposed to quantify the relative effects of gravity and capillary force on the evolution of infiltration capacity in the special case of the presence of a shallow water table, and a power law functional form of Time Compression Approximation was developed whose exponent was found to vary with the Péclet number. The increasing application of geographic information system (GIS) technology in watershed modeling makes is necessary to further evaluate its impacts on runoff characteristics as a basis for improved hydrologic analysis in ungauged watersheds. The relationship between soil erosion rate and bed shear stress is an important problem in sediment transport and scour. However, reliable measurements of the soil erosion function are challenging, both in the field and in the laboratory. The objective of this study is to investigate an experimental setup for conducting bed shear stress and soil erosion rate measurements using an open channel flume with a rough bed. Currently little is known of newer pesticide classes and their occurrence and persistence in recreational lakes. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to (1) assess average pesticide concentrations and loadings entering recreational lakes in three mixed land use watersheds throughout the growing season, (2) evaluate pesticide persistence longitudinally within the lakes, and (3) perform an ecotoxicity assessment. Six sampling campaigns were conducted at three lakes from April through October 2018 to measure the occurrence and persistence during pre, middle, and post growing season. Dissolved arsenic typically results from chemical weathering of arsenic rich sediments and is most often found in oxidized forms in surface water. The mobility of arsenic is controlled by its valence state and also by its association with iron oxides minerals, the forms of which are both influenced by abiotic and biotic processes in aqueous environment. In this study, speciation methods were used to measure and confirm the presence of reduced arsenic species in the surface water of Frenchman creek, a gaining stream that crosses the Colorado- Nebraska border. Tide gates are common hydraulic structures located throughout coastal and estuarine areas that prevent tidal waves from flooding previously converted tidally influenced areas. Detailed knowledge of wave climate change is essential for understanding coastal geomorphological processes, ecosystem resilience, the design of offshore and coastal engineering structures and aquaculture systems. In Lake Michigan, the in-situ wave observations suitable for long-term analysis are limited to two offshore MetOcean buoys. Since this distribution is inadequate to fully represent spatial patterns of wave climate across the lake, a series of high-resolution SWAN model simulations were performed for the analysis of long-term wave climate change for the entirety of Lake Michigan from 1979 to 2020. The transboundary River Ganga serves as a conduit for meltwater from the Himalayas and is a major freshwater source for two thirds of Indian population before emptying into the Sundarban Delta, the largest estuary in the Bay of Bengal. Endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) such as phthalic acid esters (PAEs) and bisphenol A (BPA) used as organic plastic additives can pollute the aquatic environment receiving plastic litter. The land application of animal manure can introduce manure microbiome and resistome to croplands where food crops are grown. The objective of this study was to characterize the microbiome and resistome on and in the leaves of lettuce grown in manured soil and identify the main transmission routes of microbes and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) from soil to the episphere and endosphere of lettuce. Shotgun metagenomic results show that manure application significantly altered the composition of the microbiome and resistome of surface soil. การศึกษานี้เป็นการศึกษาในห้องปฏิบัติการเพื่อศึกษาถึงการไหลลอดผ่านประตูระบายน้ำแบบบานเลื่อนตรงของทางน้ำที่มีขยะในทางน้ำ ภายใต้เงื่อนไขการไหลผ่านประตูแบบไหลออกอิสระ และ ไหลออกแบบท่วมจม การศึกษานี้ดำเนินการในห้องปฏิบัติการแบบจำลองชลศาสตร์และชายฝั่งทะเล ภาควิชาวิศวกรรมแหล่งน้ำ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย โดยดำเนินการทดลองในรางน้ำเปิดหน้าตัดสี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้าขนาดกว้าง 0.60 เมตร ยาว 18.0 เมตร สูง 0.75 เมตร ที่มีการไหลเวียนของน้ำ การศึกษานี้ได้จำลองขยะที่ลอยอยู่บนผิวน้ำด้วยเศษวัสดุภัณฑ์ขวดน้ำพลาสติก เศษกิ่งไม้ และ อิฐมวลเบา โดยมีอัตราการไหลชองน้ำที่ใช้ในการทดลองอยู่ในช่วง 17.7 ลิตรต่อวินาที ถึง 23.5 ลิตรต่อวินาที สำหรับการทดลองภายใต้เงื่อนไขการไหลออกอิสระ และ 12.3 ลิตรต่อวินาที ถึง 18.6 ลิตรต่อวินาที สำหรับการทดลองภายใต้เงื่อนไขการไหลออกท่วมจม ตามลำดับ การทดลองทั้งสิ้นมีทั้งหมด 160 การทดลอง ที่ประกอบด้วย การทดลองภายใต้เงื่อนไขการไหลออกอิสระ 40 การทดลอง และ การทดลองภายใต้เงื่อนไขการไหลออกท่วมจม 120 การทดลอง ผลการศึกษานี้แสดงให้เห็นว่าค่าสัมประสิทธิ์อัตราการไหลของประตูระบายแบบบานเลื่อนตรง (Cd) ซึ่งเป็นดัชนีใช้ชี้วัดการไหลลอดผ่านประตูนั้น ของทางน้ำมีขยะปนจะมีค่าน้อยกว่าทางน้ำที่ไม่มีขยะปน นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่า ค่าสัมประสิทธิ์อัตราการไหล จะลดลงเมื่อปริมาณขยะเพิ่มมากขึ้น ทั้งสองเงื่อนไขของการไหลผ่านประตูระบายดังกล่าว

การติดตามวัดผลของโครงสร้างป้องกันชายฝั่งตามแนวชายฝั่งตะวันออกของปากแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา, วริทธิ์ เจริญฤกษ์ถวิล

การวิจัยครั้งนี้ มุ่งศึกษา 1) การเปลี่ยนแปลงชายฝั่งตะวันออกของปากแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา ยาว 42 กม. ในช่วง 7 ทศวรรษที่ผ่านมา 2) การตอบสนองของแนวชายฝั่งหาดเลน ต่อการมีอยู่ของโครงสร้างป้องกันชายฝั่ง และ 3) การวัดผลเขื่อนกันคลื่นในการป้องกันพื้นที่ศึกษา การเปลี่ยนแปลงชายฝั่ง ถูกประเมินจากภาพถ่ายทางอากาศและภาพดาวเทียม ที่บันทึกในช่วงปี 2549–2564 มีการสร้างข้อมูลแบบจำลองภูมิประเทศ จากการสำรวจด้วยแสงเลเซอร์แบบติดตั้งกับโดรน (UAV-LiDAR) โดยข้อมูลทั้งสองกลุ่มถูกนำมาใช้ในการประเมินประสิทธิผลป้องกันชายฝั่ง และใช้ในการสร้างเกณฑ์การออกแบบเขื่อนกันคลื่น สำหรับพื้นที่ศึกษา ผลการศึกษาพบว่าในช่วงปี 2497–2539 มากกว่า 50% ของแนวชายฝั่งที่ศึกษาเกิดการถอยร่นอย่างต่อเนื่องและรุนแรง เสียพื้นที่ไปราว 700 เฮกตาร์ ในปี 2537 กำแพงกันตลิ่งถูกสร้างตามแนวชายฝั่งเป็นระยะทาง 10 กม. ใกล้ปากแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา ทำให้ 23% ของแนวชายฝั่ง ที่ศึกษามีเสถียรภาพจนถึงปัจจุบัน แต่อีก 70% ที่เหลือ เกิดการถดถอยอย่างรุนแรง ด้วยอัตราเฉลี่ย -15 ม./ปี ในปี 2548 เขื่อนกันคลื่นจมน้ำด้วยไส้กรอกทราย ถูกติดตั้งตามแนวชายฝั่งที่ถูกกัดเซาะ เป็นระยะทาง 25 กม ส่งผลให้ 35% ของชายฝั่งมีเสถียรภาพ อีก 56% ที่เหลือยังคงเกิดการถดถอย แต่อัตราการกัดเซาะเฉลี่ยลดลงเหลือเพียง -8 ม./ปี เนื่องจากไส้กรอกทรายมีอายุการใช้งานเพียง 4–5 ปี เขื่อนกันคลื่นด้วยหินทิ้งจึงถูกนำมาแทนที่ ในปี 2558 ทำให้แนวชายฝั่งที่เกิดการถดถอยลดลงเหลือเพียง 28% ด้วยอัตราเฉลี่ย -2 ม./ปี และมีอัตราการทับถมตะกอนด้านหลังเขื่อนเฉลี่ย 4–12 ซม./ปี ตั้งแต่ปี 2558 เขื่อนกันคลื่นใกล้ฝั่ง ถูกสร้างตามปากคลองสายหลักที่ยังคงเกิดการถอยร่นชายฝั่ง เขื่อนทุกตัวประสบความสำเร็จในการรักษาเสถียรภาพแนวชายฝั่ง และการฟื้นฟูพื้นที่ชายฝั่ง โดยมีอัตราการงอกชายฝั่งเฉลี่ย 11 ม./ปี และมีอัตราการทับถมตะกอนด้านหลังโครงสร้าง 16–32 ซม./ปี นอกจากโครงสร้างวิศวกรรมแล้ว ไม้ไผ่ชะลอคลื่น ซึ่งเป็นโครงสร้างที่ใช้วัสดุธรรมชาติ ถูกนำมาติดตั้งด้านหลังเขื่อนกันคลื่นจมน้ำ ตามแนวชายฝั่งแนวชายฝั่งพื้นที่ศึกษาตั้งแต่ปี 2545 แม้ว่าส่วนใหญ่ …

This report analyzes flood frequency risk, examines drainage, and delineates local level watershed characteristics for the Site located in western HUC 12-040201 030304 Torch Lake Subwatershed. Specifically, unnamed catchments in need of HUC-14 or HUC-16 local level delineation are evaluated to determine the effects of excess runoff on the cities of Hubbell and Lake Linden, Michigan. Further, this report aims to identify the location of known or suspected historical and current drainage infrastructure, and to prioritize locations for low-impact sustainable designs that reduce excess runoff and provide flood protection for these lakeshore communities.

To clarify the granulometric composition of the deposited sediments at the inlet head of the water intake of the outlet of the Tupolangskiy reservoir, samples of bottom sediments were taken and their granulometric composition was analyzed in laboratory conditions. Near the water area of the water intake of the 1st tier of the Tupolang reservoir, the deposited sediments are represented by smaller particles, the diameter of which ranges from 5 mm to 0.1 mm and their percentage is 95%. The problem of sustainable water intake in the conditions of significant fluctuations of flow rates and water level is significantly exacerbated by erosion of river beds. A typical example of such conditions is the damless water intake into the Karshi Main Canal (KMC) where the main flow of the Amudarya river continuously moves along a wide floodplain, changing the direction of currents. Deals with the problem of the impact of car wash complexes in the city of Tashkent on water resources. The analysis of the technological process of washing and a sociological survey of car owners and employees of car washes revealed the average amount of water used per car wash per year, as well as the amount of harmful substances entering the sewer network of the city of Tashkent.
