The Lower Mississippi River Physical Model (LMRPM) is a distorted, movable-bed physical model that replicates the hydraulics and bedload (sand) transport of the lower 195 miles of the Mississippi River. One year of flow and sediment transport on the prototype can be modeled in approximately one hour. With the ability to simulate long periods of time on the Lower Mississippi River in such a short time frame, the model can provide unique insight into subjects such as the potential effects from relative sea level rise on the lower river’s hydraulics and sediment transport. Carbamazepine (CBZ) is the most frequently detected pharmaceutical residues in aquatic environments effluent by wastewater treatment plants. Batch and column experiments were conducted to evaluate the removal of CBZ from ultra-pure water and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluent using raw zeolitic tuff (RZT) and surfactant modified zeolite (SMZ). Point zero net charge (pHpzc), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) were investigated for adsorbents to evaluate the physiochemical changes resulted from the modification process using Hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HDTMA-Br). The Amite River Basin is a largely rural watershed spanning parts of four counties in southern Mississippi and seven parishes in southeast Louisiana, with basinwide imperviousness increasing from 0.82% in 1938 to 3.85% in 2016. The Basin has been the subject of significant research interest since catastrophic flooding in 2016 caused 13 deaths and widespread damages. Rapid development in recent decades has led to an expansion of impervious surfaces in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas, encroaching on floodplains and wetlands. The Critical Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Hub in Northwest Portland, OR spans a six-mile stretch of the Lower Willamette River and stores 90% of Oregon’s liquid fuel supply and 100% of the jet fuel for PDX. The CEI Hub is also built entirely on liquefiable soils which are likely to fail during a Cascadia earthquake event. The article suggests a new approach to the monetary assessment of the damage caused to the environment by the processed waste of the transport sector. The proposed assessment method is based on the waste collection factor, all types of irretrievable losses and the volume of necessary compensatory release of materials. Based on a survey among vehicle owners, it was found that the solid waste collection rate is about 50 %, while the waste collection rate for operating fluids does not exceed 32 %. The main objective of this study is to determine the status and level of crop diversification among farms in the country through an empirical analysis using panel data collected in 2009-2017. In doing so, we performed the Stata-16 software using the Simpson Diversification Index model in determining the diversification index. According to the results, the highest diversification indicators were found for Samarkand, Fergana and Tashkent regions, respectively, and accounted for 0.74, 0.74 and 0.76, respectively. The aim of the study was to assess the effect of climate change, mainly higher and lower precipitation, on the intensity of the impact of a coal waste dump on groundwater. The analysis used meteorological data for the Katowice region in 2002-2020 as well as data on the height of the groundwater table in the vicinity of the coal waste dump, and data on physicochemical parameters and chemical composition of groundwater in 2004-2020. Wildfire effected regions of the western U.S. frequently produce non-Newtonian floods (or floods that have a non-linear relationship between stress and deformation) in response to moderate to severe precipitation events. This research presents the development, evaluation, and demonstration of a post-wildfire hydrodynamic one-dimensional and two-dimensional diffusive wave and shallow-water numerical modeling approach that can be used to predict post-wildfire downstream runout of debris flows and floodplain inundation conditions. Drawing largely from the irrigation literature, the origins of the concept and its methodological developments are reviewed, and its use in applied work over two decades is discussed. Based on this analysis of conceptual and applied research, key insights into the concept’s contributions and limitations are presented, as well as opportunities for further refinements.

The focus of this thesis is to design an efficient and effective preventative maintenance program for the electrical equipment that the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) operates at the locks and dams. This thesis presents the concept of asset management and designs a framework to manage the electrical assets at USACE. The methodology was tested, and the results validated the framework proposed in this thesis.
