Resource Recovery From Solid Waste: The Story Of Union Electric's Solid Waste Utilization System, David L. Klumb, Paul R. Brendel
Resource Recovery From Solid Waste: The Story Of Union Electric's Solid Waste Utilization System, David L. Klumb, Paul R. Brendel
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
This paper covers the design and development of a comprehensive resource recovery system capable of serving the solid waste disposal needs of the Greater St. Louis area comprising 11,500km2 (4500 sq. mi.). This 7.2 x 106 kg (8000 ton) per day operation will convert solid waste into milled fuel for cofiring with pulverized coal in utility boilers, and will recover magnetic and non-magnetic metals, all in an environmentally acceptable manner. Scheduled for operation in 1979, the system will be built and operated as a private enterprise venture of Union Colliery Company, a subsidiary of Union Electric Company.
Sample Design For Electricity Pricing Experiments: Anticipated Precision For A Time-Of-Day Pricing Experiment, Dennis J. Aigner
Sample Design For Electricity Pricing Experiments: Anticipated Precision For A Time-Of-Day Pricing Experiment, Dennis J. Aigner
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
The primary goal of a pricing experiment is basically the same as that for an experiment in direct load control: To discover the effects of time-of-day pricing on the shape of the daily load curve for a particular customer or class of customers. For the pricing experiment, it is also of interest to know how those effects are related to the pricing structure itself.
In this paper, we consider two alternative models of kwh consumption for residential customers as the basis for calculating an optimal experimental design, and compare them in terms of the levels of precision of estimation (for …

Energy - Minerals - Environment: How Now Brown Cow?, Bobby G. Wixson
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
Energy, technical, social, political, economic, and environmental problems are all people related problems which will continue to increase along with the world's population. With the growing demands for more energy and minerals along with the constraints of protecting the environment, new approaches must be considered to these complex problems.
Energy sources, modifications, alternatives, and new developments must be considered for the present as short term resources (next 25- 30 years) and in the future as long range research necessary to develop and implement new technology (25 years on). Major energy sources and their environmental considerations are generally classified as:

Darcom Regulation 10-5, Organization And Functions, Us Army Foreign Science And Technology Center, 13 July 1976, Robert Bolin , Depositor
United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence
This is an official document outlining the mission and functions of the Army Foreign Science and Technology Center.
(1) This regulation was included in the Foreign Science the Technology (FSTC) “Unit History, FY 63 to FY 77” dated 1977.
(2) The regulation superceded Army Material Command Regulation 10-5, 11 February 1972.
(3) For a while the Army Materiel Command (AMC) was known as Department of Army Materiel Development & Readiness Command (DARCOM). This was, apparently, a case of changing our name to serve you better. Eventually good sense prevailed and the name reverted to the Army Materiel Command (AMC).

Non-Cash Incentives And Worker Motivation, Daniel Franklin Cole
Non-Cash Incentives And Worker Motivation, Daniel Franklin Cole
Masters Theses
"A problem of growing concern in the United States deals with the poor results of the nation's businesses in terms of productivity. The U.S. is now suffering the worst decline in productivity in a generation. While part of this decline can be attributed to economic conditions, data indicates that the labor force could be more productive if it wanted to do so. A study has shown that 52% of all workers feel they aren't producing at full capacity. Alienation of the American worker is identified as one of the most important contributors to this problem.
Because it is often difficult …

Communications And Group Decision-Making : Experimental Evidence On The Potential Impact Of Computer Conferenging, Computerized Conferencing & Communications Center, Starr Roxanne Hiltz
Computerized Conferencing and Communications Center Reports
This paper is a selective review of small group experiments in the area of the relationship between communication (modes, structures, processes) and group decision-making or problem solving. There are literally hundreds of these experiments; the purpose of this effort has been to isolate and summarize the results of those experimental traditions which may have the most bearing upon:
- our understanding of the probable social effects of computer conferencing as a communication mode;
- the identification of possible experiments utilizing computer conferencing which appear to be potentially most fruitful in terms of evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of computer conferencing in facilitating …

Appendices list references and technical intelligence categories, provide a sample technical intelligence plan, and explain handling and reporting of captured materiel and the standard nomenclature system for identifying Soviet bloc weapons and …
A Study Of The Prevalent Categories Of Conflict As Perceived By The Architect And The School Client On School Construction Projects In Indiana, Tracy Dust
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In view of the complexities which are now involved in school facility construction, it is paramount that the relationship between the architect and his school client develop fully and that it be based upon a clear and mutual understanding of role expectation. The school board, as the hiring agency, is characteristically composed of laymen both in the field of education and in the field of heavy construction. They must rely upon the judgment of the architect regarding the design features of the proposed facility and must depend upon their superintendent and his staff for determining educational program requirements.
Entropy Reduction Of English Text Using Variable Length Grouping, Vincent Norman Ast Jr.
Entropy Reduction Of English Text Using Variable Length Grouping, Vincent Norman Ast Jr.
Dissertations and Theses
It is known that the entropy of English text can be reduced by arranging the text into groups of two or more letters each. The higher the order of the grouping the greater is the entropy reduction. Using this principle in a computer text compressing system brings about difficulties, however, because the number of entries required in the translation table increases exponentially with group size. This experiment examined the possibility of using a translation table containing only selected entries of all group sizes with the expectation of obtaining a substantial entropy reduction with a relatively small table.

Obviously, reliable information about potential enemy transportation equipment, facilities, systems, capabilities is vital, since our forces may need to prevent an enemy from using them and we may need to use them. Transportation or mobility intelligence is such reliable information. This is a very thorough document describing the collection, production, and dissemination of transportation intelligence. The emphasis of this manual is collection of relevant information in the field.
The manual describes organizations and personnel in the army responsible for collecting transportation related information. It identifies the national-level military intelligence production agencies as:

Nebraskiana Publications: Resources and Materials on the 37th State
Excerpt from the prologue:
Passenger growth has led to expansion of facilities at both the Omaha and Lincoln airports; but like many others in the nation, they are rapidly becoming congested. The Federal Aviation Administration, the State Government officials, and many civic leaders in Nebraska are now becoming aware of the need for establishing a regional airport for the Eastern Nebraska region in order to promote and handle international air transportation for the future. People are also beginning to think of such a modern airport as an essential factor in bringing new industries to Nebraska and in shaping the urbanization …
