Examination of a rock suite from the northern end of the Boulder batholith reveals that four of the eight criteria for assimilation as given by Grout are present. Thus, in the opinion of the writer, there is evidence and trends to signify assimilation, but no indication of the importance that it played in the formation of the Boulder batholith.

The purpose of this paper is to secure an actual figure describing the amount of uplift in the Bighorn Mountains, the Little Rocky Mountains and the Bowdoin Dome. To the writer’s knowledge, the amount of uplift in the areas mentioned has not been determined before. Such a figure could be useful in structural studies of Montana and Wyoming, because the amount of uplift is a fair measure of the intensity of orogenic forces; also, the amount of uplift is a prerequisite to the determination of the amount of erosion.

The inadequacy of water and power supplies in Utah for agriculture, for industry, for domestic and community consumption has retarded the State's economic growth. Shortages of water and hydroelectric power are the principle impediments to the full realization of other potentials of Utah, that is, the full use of its arable lands, the wide and diversified use of its industrial raw materials, and the unrestricted development of its communities. In irrigated areas it often becomes necessary to provide means by which the excess water may be removed. After a period of time if these drainage provisions are not made, it may become necessary, because of the saline soils or water logged condition that may develop, to abandon the land for agricultural purposes.
The increases of irrigation on the higher lands in Utah has resulted in an increased need for drainage on much of the lower land in the valleys. This increased need for drainage has long been recognized and in 1947 it influenced the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station, in …

The experimental joint described in this paper involves the use of a new type load transfer set-up which was developed by the Oxford Manufacturing Company, Oxford, Indiana, and produced by the Reynolds Metals Company. The producers designed this apparatus on the assumption that the present joints used in concrete pavement construction are not adequate. For example, from the standpoint of load bearing, the dowel bars which theoretically carry the load from one slab to the other are not sufficient in that the very shape of the bars (circular) allows only a limited bearing surface. As a result of meetings with producers, a committee of Highway Department engineers recommended that a study be made of various type of aggregates from statewide sources; the objective being to arrive at a standard of evaluating unit weight of aggregates of various but commonly recognized characteristics. It was further desired that a factor be determined which could be applied to a given aggregate for computing its unit weight with reasonable accuracy; taking cognizance of specific gravities and densities as influenced by particle shapes and gradation.

"The first portion of this treatise is devoted to a compilation of general knowledge concerning photographic resolution testing - an explanation of certain optical terms; the drafting of resolution targets; methods for averaging resolution values, measured at various positions on the format, to obtain one over-all value for an exposure; and a description of the factors involved in conducting the photographic operations. In the second part of the paper, analyses of the results obtained from line-target resolutions are made with the purpose of determining those combinations of aperture, filter, and shutter speed which result in high photographic resolutions. Unfortunately though man has recorded the event, he has seldom recorded facts whereby it is possible to determine the volume of flow or the height to which the water rose.
