Although Asian Americans are the fastest-growing racial minority group in the United States, projected to be 10% of the population by 2050, they only comprise 2% of the teaching force. There is relatively little research about the experiences, recruitment efforts, or retention of Asian American teachers. US students who are blind or have visual impairments do not read at the level of a third-grader with typical sight until, on average, halfway through the seventh grade. As a first step toward narrowing that gap, we investigated levels of linguistic awareness among teachers of students who are blind or visually impaired (TSBVIs) because research with general education teachers has demonstrated a link between teacher linguistic awareness and student literacy outcomes. This thesis explores the relationship between trauma-informed practices and teacher burnout and turnover. For the past decade, schools across the United States have seen high levels of burnout and turnover amongst their educators. At the same time, young children are experiencing high levels of exposure to traumatic events in childhood, affecting their behavior, social and emotional health, and ability to learn. Culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) families encounter many challenges when trying to effectively advocate for and be a part of their children’s education. The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic has added additional struggles for many CLD families, including families of children with disabilities. Utilizing a qualitative phenomenological design, this study aimed to understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Spanish speaking families of students with special needs. Ten Spanish speaking parents of children with special needs participated in this study. Teaching and learning centers in higher education are often charged with providing faculty development programming in support of overarching institutional goals related to effective teaching and assessment of student learning. Using the theoretical frameworks of Maki and Weiner as a launch pad, this exploratory case study examines how two teaching and learning centers have provided services, implemented programming, and strategically affected cultural change among faculty and other stakeholders in support of an institutional culture of assessment. The demographic composition of the United States (US) has transformed since the early 1990s with immigrant arrivals from Mexico and Central America. Education leaders frequently exit preparation programs without content focused on opportunities around working successfully with multilingual students. This qualitative case study explores the implementation of online learning modules focused on engaging multilingual students and their families that were embedded into advanced leadership preparation coursework. Utilizing data (e.g., classwork, fieldnotes, semi-structured interviews) collected from 10 participants, findings include recommendations for stronger preparation on multilingual learners and flexible learning experiences that encourage the application of knowledge in professional practice.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) เพื่อศึกษาระดับทักษะการนิเทศของผู้บริหารโรงเรียนที่ได้รับรางวัลโรงเรียนมาตรฐานสากลระดับมัธยมศึกษา 2) เพื่อศึกษาระดับการปฏิบัติงานด้านผลลัพธ์ของโรงเรียนที่ได้รับรางวัลโรงเรียนมาตรฐานสากลระดับมัธยมศึกษา 3) เพื่อศึกษาทักษะการนิเทศของผู้บริหารโรงเรียนที่ส่งผลต่อผลลัพธ์ของโรงเรียนมาตรฐานสากลระดับมัธยมศึกษา ประชากรที่ใช้ในการวิจัย คือ โรงเรียนที่ได้รับรางวัลคุณภาพแห่งสำนักงานคณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน ระดับมัธยมศึกษา จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 280 โรงเรียน ผู้ให้ข้อมูล คือ ครูผู้ปฏิบัติหน้าที่หัวหน้างาน โรงเรียนละ 5 คน คือ งานหลักสูตร งานระดับชั้น งานบุคลากร งานนโยบายและแผน และงานบริหารการเงิน รวมผู้ให้ข้อมูลทั้งสิ้น จำนวน 810 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย คือ แบบสอบถาม แบบมาตราส่วนประมาณค่า 5 ระดับ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้ค่าความถี่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน วิเคราะห์ค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ และวิเคราะห์ถดถอยพหุคูณแบบปกติ ผลการวิจัย พบว่า 1. ระดับทักษะการนิเทศของผู้บริหารในภาพรวมมีค่าเฉลี่ย 4.04 อยู่ในระดับมาก 2. ระดับการปฏิบัติงานด้านผลลัพธ์ของโรงเรียนมาตรฐานสากลมีค่าเฉลี่ย 4.89 อยู่ในระดับมากที่สุด 3. ทักษะการนิเทศของผู้บริหารที่ส่งผลต่อผลลัพธ์ของโรงเรียนมาตรฐานสากลระดับมัธยมศึกษา มี 2 ทักษะ คือ ทักษะด้านการบริหารงานบุคคล และทักษะด้านการประเมินผล ทักษะด้านการบริหารงานบุคคลส่งผลต่อผลลัพธ์ของโรงเรียนมาตรฐานสากลทั้งในภาพรวมและทุกด้าน และทักษะด้านการประเมินผลส่งผลต่อผลลัพธ์ของโรงเรียนมาตรฐานสากล 3 ซึ่งด้าน คือ ด้านหลักสูตรและกระบวนการ ด้านนักเรียนและผู้มีส่วนได้ส่วยเสีย และด้านบุคลากร

This study examines why the passing rates of African Americans on the CBEST are the lowest in California at 60%. Madkins (2011) identified licensure testing as a significant reason why African Americans cannot enter the teaching progression. According to Darling-Hammond et al. (2016), California has an ongoing credentialed teacher shortage. An even more significant need is for teachers of color. According to the California Department of Education (2021), 60% of the state’s educator workforce is White, while the state student body, multicultural and multilingual, is only slightly more than 22% White. Racial disparities in education have put a spotlight on the role of teachers and the school environment that is created for students. As teachers are seen as a vital element of school climate, the interactions between teachers and students can have a significant effect on students’ success. The purpose of this study was to examine the associations between race, skin tone, and teacher–student relationship (TSR) quality. Data drawn from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study included 995 ethnically and racially diverse adolescents. This study is based on collaboration between a school and a university on professional development training of 4th and 5th grade elementary school teachers in a southeastern state in the USA. The study was three-pronged and focused on teacher knowledge, pedagogy, and student achievement. We examined how the building of teacher capacity affected the performance of underachieving students in math and literacy. Underachieving students were targeted with specific strategies, projects, problems solving stories, self-reflection, and higher-level thinking questions.
