The Use Of Feuerstein’S Instrumental Enrichment With Underprepared College Students: A Pilot Study, Michael Kieta

This pilot study investigated the usage of Feuerstein’s (1980) Instrumental Enrichment with underprepared college students. Open admissions policies in colleges and universities have resulted in the enrollment of many students who are underprepared to meet the academic task demands. Courses have been developed by the colleges and universities to remediate the academic deficits of underprepared students. Remedial courses using traditional educational methods have been largely ineffective. Cognitive process instruction (CPI) is an area of educational research that recently began to receive increased attention in the field of remedial education. Otto Andrew Gullickson came to the Marshall University campus in the fall of 1930. He was known to generations of Marshall students simply as Swede. Prior to coming to Marshall, he received his education from the State Teachers College at Valley City, North Dakota, Springfield College, and Columbia University. He also served in the United States Army and the American Red Cross. Swede gained teaching experience at Franklin and Marshall Academy in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, and the Charlotte Public School System in Charlotte, North Carolina before coming to Marshall. Development Of Guidelines Related To Auxiliary Personnel In The Public School Media Centers Of Washington State, Velma Irene Morris Koziuk

This paper presents a study of the present use of auxiliary personnel in media centers in Washington State public schools. These findings along with documents received from school districts, the review of literature, and related knowledge of the field were used as a basis for the development of guidelines relating to selecting, employing, assigning, training, and evaluating of media aides.

The proposed guidelines are presented to aid school district administrators in developing their own policies and procedures relating to media auxiliary personnel.

A re-analysis of the Situational Attitudes Scale (SAS) was conducted to investigate lts generality, validity and reliability and to suggest a more conservative method of analyzing the data. Three forms of the SAS were developed under the name Situational Attitude Inventory. Forms A and B corresponded to the originals; they tested attitudes toward whites and blacks, respectively, in varying social situations. Form c was developed to test the validity of the social situations for differentiation among alternative referents, which included welfare, age, ethnicity, and physical characteristics. The SAS was administered to a random sample of new freshman and transfer students …
