The purpose of this thesis, accordingly, is to collect and arrange the most authentic information available, from secondary sources, on the schools of New Mexico during the Spanish and the Mexican administration, 1581 to 1821 and 1821 to 1846 respectively.
Particular effort will be made to trace the establishment and the progress of the schools during these periods and to determine the methods of maintenance, as well as the nature of the schools.
