A Sustainable Model For Business Schools, Howard Thomas, Kai Peters
A Sustainable Model For Business Schools, Howard Thomas, Kai Peters
Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
The purpose of this paper is to provide insight into the financial models used by business schools, with a specific focus on the cost side of the model. The paper systematically looks at sources of revenue and areas of expenditure under different business school models. The paper finds that the faculty model used by many business schools, with the need to devote significant effort to generate academic publications, is very cost intensive and not efficient. The paper suggests that alternative models can be developed which would make business schools more financially sustainable. While there has been a lot of societal …

Faculty Publications
College student’s beliefs, values, and spirituality have become the focus of a major national research project in recent years, conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) housed at University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and sponsored by a substantial grant from the John Templeton Foundation (HERI website). After a pilot survey conducted in 2003, the College Students' Beliefs and Values Survey (CSBV)was administered in the fall 2004 to 112,232 entering freshmen students of 236 colleges and universities in the United States, with a follow up sample of 15,000 of these students in spring 2007. As a nationally representative …

An Exploratory Study Of The Experiences Of Recent Graduates Who Participated In The Ronald E. Mcnair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, Zaducka Tekeusha Thomas
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experiences of recent graduates who participated in the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program at a medium-size southeastern university. This research used a phenomenological approach, as well as qualitative interviews, to provide a detailed and insightful description about the experiences of the participants in this study. They participated in the McNair program as undergraduate students and completed a bachelor's degree during the academic years of 2009–2010 and 2010–2011. One-hour Skype interviews were conducted with ten participants in the McNair program at a southeastern university. Themes from the explication of the …
College Programs For Students With Intellectual Disabilities: Results Of A National Survey, Clare K. Papay, Linda Bambara
College Programs For Students With Intellectual Disabilities: Results Of A National Survey, Clare K. Papay, Linda Bambara
All Institute for Community Inclusion Publications
Providing transition services for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (iDD) on a college campus creates opportunities for academic, vocational, and social skills instruction in a community setting with college-age peers. A survey conducted in 2008 of college programs in the U.S. for students with IDD ages 18–21 (Papay & Bambara, 2011) gathered information on these programs and the opportunities they provide. Survey questions addressed the characteristics of postsecondary education programs and the extent to which students with iDD were participating in college classes. Results are shared.
The Power Of Expectations, Meg Grigal
The Power Of Expectations, Meg Grigal
All Institute for Community Inclusion Publications
The existence of a special issue of the Journal of Policy and Practice on Intellectual Disabilities focusing on postsecondary education for individuals with intellectual disabilities demon-strates that there are increasing expectations that people withan intellectual disability can and should be given the choice of going to college. And similar to other groups of young peoplewho have gone to college, their path toward college and theoutcomes that they seek and achieve from college will vary considerably. But unlike other college students, the experiences of these young (and not so young) college students with ID may notmerely reflect their personal preferences for and …
How Do Stem Minority Faculty Members Describe Their Experiences Of Graduate Student And Faculty Socialization?, Ayana Milele Johnson
How Do Stem Minority Faculty Members Describe Their Experiences Of Graduate Student And Faculty Socialization?, Ayana Milele Johnson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
To remain globally competitive in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), we must increase our number of underrepresented minority scientists (URMs) as our country's population becomes more diverse. For URMs to move up the educational and professional ranks, they need to be properly socialized as graduate students and faculty members (Tierney & Rhoads, 1994; Weidman, Twale, & Stein, 2001). Programs such as the Alliance of Graduate Education in Mississippi (AGEM) are designed to assist in the socialization process of doctoral students and, in turn, increase the numbers of the URMs in faculty roles. Therefore, the purpose of this study was …
