Distance education courses offered by community colleges and other higher education institutions are becoming popular options for students who seek a more convenient method to obtain a college education. Community colleges are actively expanding their offerings of distance education courses, both nationally and in Michigan. Yet minimal research has been conducted on a large scale to discover the factors which contribute to satisfaction with distance education courses at community colleges.

The purpose of this study was to explore whether leadership preparation experiences for the position of chief academic officers at two-year public colleges contribute to their perceived level of competency for specific tasks in the first year of their careers as chief academic officer. The instrument used in this study was developed by the researcher and was composed of three sections: the preparation experiences section, the self-perceived competency rating for tasks section, and the demographic section. Workplace-based contract training for employers is a growing area of the mission of community and technical colleges across the nation, and determining what factors predict satisfaction for sponsoring organizations may help ensure the success of such programs. This is especially important in West Virginia, where higher education legislation in 1995 and 2000 mandated such programming as essential. State institutions that fail in this area may lose their status as independent colleges. Community and technical colleges, therefore, that use data from this study may be able to design and deliver workplace-based contract education and training programs, using limited existing resources, efficiently …

This longitudinal case study examined the origins, growth, and development of one community college in Michigan, North Central Michigan College (NCMC). The purpose of the study was to understand organizational persistence and change through learning how one organization formed and developed over time.

Five eras between 1958 and 1995 were described, and a conceptual frame considered three levels of organizational responsibility: national, state, and local environments; core technology activities; and leadership activities. Nursing programs are increasingly scrutinized for fair and consistent application of program outcome criterions. The passage of the NCLEX-PN licensure examination by program graduates is a measure of student success and is a component of program evaluation standards. It is of paramount importance that nurse educators and administrators create clear admission policies and procedures that offer the greatest opportunity for student success in practical nursing programs, while at the same time remaining cognizant of the needs of the nontraditional student.
