The Majlis Perbandaran Johor Bahru Structure Plan (1985) and the amended Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru Structure Plan ( 1997) had identified planning issues relating to primary schools in the city of Johor Bahru. Amongst the issues were the shortage of primary schools which has given rise to overcrowding in classrooms. Consequently. children were forced to enrol in schools which are located further away from their homes. The land-uses surrounding the schools were also found to be incompatible with thl! school environment. It is also to test the hypothesis that pre-­intermediate ESL students use L1 as the dominant language to think when writing in their first language and the English Language. This is a qualitative research project using a case-study approach obtaining data through multiple data collection method. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to assess the attitudes, perceptions, behaviors, and responses of teachers with varying computer skills after exposure to the Technology Learning Model (TLM), as well as to assess the overall impact of the staff development experiences. The TLM was comprised of a researcher-designed, 10-session, 15- hour training implementation over 8 weeks. The two research questions of the study were: How will participants with varying computer skill levels respond to the TLM? How does the TLM affect participants' attitudes toward integration of computer technology into professional responsibilities?

What do American Jews really know about Muslims? What do American Muslims really know about Jews? These questions undergird this account of how two religious adult educators--a Jew and a Muslim--came to engage in collaborative, dialogic, relational and transformational interreligious learning and research. Emerging out of this collaborative doctoral research project at National-Louis University, this study addresses two different dimensions of research and practice in the field of adult education: the nature of adult learning in the interreligious dialogue process and the role of collaborative methods in research methodology.

Career maturity is operationally defined as the readiness of an individual to make informed, age-appropriate career decisions and cope with career development tasks (King, 1990; Savickas, 1984). The matched sample consisted of a total of 344 participants including college freshmen student-athletes (n = 107), freshmen non-student-athletes (n = 107), senior student-athletes (n = 65), and senior non-student-athletes (n = 65). It was hypothesized that there would be significant, positive relationships between the psychosocial variables of educational involvement (EI), career planning (CP), career decision making self-efficacy (CDMSE), and career locus of control (CLCS), and significant, negative relationships between these measures and …

Trends to integrate students with disabilities into general education schools, rely on early childhood teachers utilising their knowledge and skills to provide successful induction into the education system, and fully including students with disabilities in the teaching program. This study describes early childhood teachers' knowledge of children with disabilities, and the teaching of these children, through teachers recounting their sources of knowledge and experiences in teaching children with disabilities. This study was conducted in the northern metropolitan teaching districts of Perth, Western Australia. This study explores what influences year-to-year persistence of students and provides decision-makers at Metropolitan University and similar institutions with information on students who attend nonresidential campuses. This study was to determine whether there was a statistically significant difference in the mean number of student drug and alcohol discipline infractions among ten Arkansas high schools before and after an intervention of a mandatory random drug-testing intervention program for extracurricular activities. The assessment data used in this study were the totals of drug and alcohol discipline incidents or infractions at ten Arkansas secondary schools. This project was designed to assess the extent to which changes have occurred in the percentage of support provided to institutions of higher education from unrestricted state general fund appropriations in the states that are members of the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), over the period from 1988-89 to 1997-98. It also addresses the question of why this change has taken place in institutions classified as SREB Category 5 Four-Year institutions — those that grant a limited number of degrees and have fewer than 5,000 full-time equivalent students. Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a psychiatric diagnosis associated with extreme behaviors including repeated suicide attempts, emotional instability, distorted thinking, and difficulty controlling impulses (American Psychiatric Association, 1994). In addition, a history of childhood physical and sexual abuse is commonly associated with BPD (Murray, 1993). This history of abuse and rigid thinking are characteristics of this disorder associated with suicide attempts (Brown & Anderson, 1991). As a result, suicidal crises are common with BPD patients. Although traditional treatment methods decrease the number of suicidal attempts, they are moderately effective in decreasing suicidal ideation (McGlashan, 1986). Suicidality is characterized by a …

The purpose of this study was to review and analyze the literature concerning the optimum time to begin teaching reading. Four questions were answered, addressing the optimum time to begin teaching reading; advantages of early reading; problems with early reading; and guidelines for developing an effective reading program.

Early readers were found to have better grades, a higher self-esteem, and continued to be better readers throughout the secondary school years. However, some early readers also experienced difficulties because of the pressure and high expectations put on them at an early age.

It was concluded that there is no magical age …
