Vaccination Program For Beef Calves (2001 - Clell Bagley), Clell Bagley
All Current Publications
Vaccines are an important tool to use in herd health programs for the protection of animal health. However, vaccines do not prevent all disease by themselves, and should be used in conjunction with good management practices. The timing of vaccination and selection of product are important considerations.

We recently produced a videotape here at USU, titled ìThe Milking School.î It contains both English and Spanish language versions (30 and 33 minutes). The videotape is focused on teaching novice personnel how to milk cows. There is a brief overview of milking equipment and a small segment on handling cows. Most of the information is on the step by step procedure of cow preparation and management of the milking equipment on the cow. The goal was to avoid ìtalking heads and show the cows, equipment, workers and very specific steps - and to make it available in Spanish as …

Injection of almost any drug or solution into the muscles of a food animal will result in scar tissue formation and some residual lesion in those muscle tissues. These lesions are very displeasing to consumers if found in meat products. Their presence also contributes to loss of tenderness for much of the remainder of the cut of meat. If found during processing, the lesions can be trimmed out but this still results in trim loss and increased labor costs for the processor.

Watershed education affords teachers thi s opportunity by using water quality monitoring as a basis for the study of any academic subject. A Ri ver Run Through Us: The Bear River Watershed Education Project (BRWEP) is a student-based program in Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. The program aims to increase understanding and concern for the Bear River watershed by engaging students in water quality monitoring. An Evaluative Argument-Based Investigation Of Validity Evidence For The Utah Pre-Algebra Criterion-Referenced Test, Louise Richards Moulding
An Evaluative Argument-Based Investigation Of Validity Evidence For The Utah Pre-Algebra Criterion-Referenced Test, Louise Richards Moulding
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This study collected evidence to address the assumptions underlying the use of the Utah Core Assessment to Pre-Algebra (UCAP) to (a) measure student achievement in pre-algebra, and (b) assist teachers in making adjustments to instruction. An evaluative argument was defined to guide the collection of evidence. Each of the assumptions in the evaluative argument was addressed using data from a suburban northern Utah school district. To collect the evidence, test content was examined including item match to course objectives, reliability, and subtest intercorrelations. Analyses of correlations of the UCAP with convergent and discriminant measures were completed using student test data …
An Evaluation Of Teton Science School's Journeys Place-Based Education Program As Effective Environmental Education Teacher Training, John Hayes
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This thesis is an analysis of survey research data evaluating Journeys, a place-based environmental education teacher inservice training program developed and administered by Teton Science School. Information gleaned from stakeholder interviews was used to develop the specific evaluation questions. A self-administered mail survey was then sent to all teachers known to have received Journeys training.
Nearly all trained teachers go on to use Journeys with their classes, and show a commitment to making Journeys a permanent part of their classroom. Teachers generally agreed that their involvement with Journeys has had positive effects on their teaching behaviors and attitudes towards teaching. …

A major effort has been made by the beef industry in recent years to reduce the economic loss from injection site lesions. Injections of almost any vaccine or medication causes some lesion. The extent, severity and economic loss of the resulting lesion can be greatly reduced with cleanliness and by use of careful techniques for the placement of product into specific, designated sites.

Are We Having Fun Yet? How Teachers Use Manipulatives To Teach Mathematics, Patricia S. Moyer-Packenham
Teacher Education and Leadership Faculty Publications
Teachers often comment that using manipulatives to teach mathematics is ‘fun!’ Embedded in the word ‘fun’ are important notions about how and why teachers use manipulatives in the teaching of mathematics. Over the course of one academic year, this study examined 10 middle grades teachers’ uses of manipulatives for teaching mathematics using interviews and observations to explore how and why the teachers used the manipulatives as they did. An examination of the participants’ statements and behaviors indicated that using manipulatives was little more than a diversion in classrooms where teachers were not able to represent mathematics concepts themselves. The teachers …
