A Study Of The Effect Of The Assessment Ratio On State Aid For Public Schools In Northampton County, Virginia, Paul Gray Watson Jr.

Master's Theses

Since it is commonly recognized that real estate is the prime source of locally taxable wealth and that assessment values are the only controlled values in the assessment ratio, the problem was (1) to determine whether assessment values in the assessment ratio actually represented assessment values of the county as a whole; (2) to apply the information in (1) above to whether errors were made in determining the true value of locally taxable wealth in Northampton County which could affect the distribution of state educational monies to the county and hence to other localities as well.

Public school education is …

A Study Of The Cost Of Providing Substantially Equal Educational Facilities For Segregated Whites And Negro School Children In Arkansas, Edgar Alan Morris

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

An recent years, Negro patrons in several Arkansas school districts have appealed to the courts in efforts to get better educational facilities for their children, and the courts have ordered a substantially equal expenditure for the two races. Other suits of similar intent are now pending and still others are threatened.

From the foregoing it is apparent (1) that inequalities in educational facilities are not new in Arkansas and that the policies of the local school boards must be responsible; and (2) that the problem is centered in the local districts having mixed populations and that the disparity must be …

Providing Science Laboratory Equipment At Minimum Expense, James Ira Wood Aug 1941

Providing Science Laboratory Equipment At Minimum Expense, James Ira Wood

Master's Theses

The purpose of this report is to present plans and directions for laboratory apparatus, which may be built, by the instructor and pupils themselves from inexpensive materials. The report describes projects undertaken in approaching this problem in a particular school. It is not a complete laboratory manual. The equipment is not all that would be needed either in a course in general science or in physics. Insurance Practices Of School Boards In Municipal And County Schools Of New Mexico With Evaluation And Standards, Owen O. Sabin May 1937

Insurance Practices Of School Boards In Municipal And County Schools Of New Mexico With Evaluation And Standards, Owen O. Sabin

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Since New Mexico schools, exclusive of private schools and higher institutions, spend $135,000 each year for insurance premiums, considerable thought might well be given to the question whether or not this money is wisely spent. The value of insurance is no longer seriously questioned, but as yet few public officials or school administrators seem to recognize that it should be purchased as economically as possible, consistent with good business practices and safety.

The problem undertaken in this study is to discover the practices of New Mexico school boards in the handling of insurance in public school property.

Some explanation is necessary of the method of procedure in compiling material for this thesis. The first step was really taken seven years ago. At that time the writer interviewed state officials at Sacramento, California, in the hope of obtaining state aid for educational finance in the Tule Lake section of the Klamath Irrigation Project. The Governor, the department of education, and the finance department were all consulted, but no legal way was discovered of using state money for the erection of school buildings in the district mentioned. Some county money was available for payment of teachers’ salary, but none …
